I was talking about the first year alone:

From @darrendreger:

Orriginal offer sheet for Shea Weber was 1yr, but Preds would match. $68 mil in bonus $ in 1st 6 yrs, $27 mil total in less than 1 year.

By the way, I heard another reference to the Sharks losing $14 million this past season....

And thus the reason why we didnt get him.....

maybe we just need to buy some apple and google stock-that should get us out of the red nice and quick :D:D

It's totally absurd the way the contract is made. In some ways, it's fairly legit, but in others with the bonus money, it's crazy. I kind of hope the NHL steps in, but they won't.

I'm also torn on this latest act. I love the move in general - why have RFAs and offer sheets if no one uses them? - but Philly is one of the last teams I'd have him sign with. I actually like Philly in general, but not with Weber. I also feel bad for Nashville. They either take the huge bonuses (plus Rinne's big raise comes into play) or have to deal with a monstrous identity/off-ice reconstruction and take the 4 picks. Rough.

Re: San Jose - heard there's some fishy accounting between the Sharks and their Sports Entertainment group or whatever. Probably bogus on the actually losing money front.

if that is what he seems "top tier" forwards, then I would have gladly given him pavelski or Clowe with a prospect.

This is a steal for the Rangers

Howson caved. He could have gotten a MUCH better deal for Nash at the trade deadline. Sather took him to school!

Wow - Nash for half the NYR team...

EDIT:
actual info--
The Rangers picked up Rick Nash in a trade with the Blue Jackets on Monday in exchange for forwards Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov, defenseman Tim Erixon and a first-round pick, bringing an end to one of the longest-running dramas in recent NHL history.

EDIT 2 -
Sorry to the above. My original post started before I read that one...

Howson could be the worst GM in the league, and this is further proof that he should have been fired last season. That ownership deserves all of the failure that the BJs have had because of who they've kept in charge.

Fixed

If you were a Jackets fan, how much do you blame Nash for everything? Does he become a pariah who is booed each time he touches the puck and people want to see play horribly?

That depends on the level of hockey-intellect that the average BJs fan has.

Someone who knows about what went on couldn't possibly blame Nash for wanting out.

I found this part amusing-

-- Was Weber the individual that this franchise wanted to lead our team, a team that would compete for the Stanley Cup every year, for the next 14 years?

-- Would matching the offer sheet be in the best long-term interest of the team and organization?

-- Would a decision not to match the offer sheet send a negative message to current Predators players and other NHL organizations, a message that the Predators would only go so far to protect its best players and be pushed around by teams with "deep pockets?"

"The answer to each of the above questions is clearly "yes,'" the team said.

I like the last one the best-

reminds me of this

Kidding aside-I applaud Nashville's decision-it means they are serious about winning and are willing to do what it takes and will not let our players be bought out by teams with deep pockets.
Shows that some teams are willing to take matters into their own hands and not wait for the NHL to fix the problem

Columbus is terrible. I support Nash leaving. Why would he want to stay with a team that does not support him?

The guy gave his all, the team did not back him. How can you blame a guy that good wanting to leave?

You talkin' bout the Gretzky trade or when Fat Man devastated Nagasaki?

;)

well another fat man DID devastate a group of people (pock and mcnall were both pretty hefty)..

but thats kind of interesting.

So now in one day
We bombed Japan
Jerry Garcia died
Gretzky traded

If it passes, it'll only be the 3rd lockout of his tenure. That's a good record, right?

I think it's bye bye Winter Classic. FFS.

well we made the conference finals two years in row-never had a chance in either series-some call that good to........

I actually think the Winter classic will happen-HBO has a vested interest in it happening and if it doesn't we can kiss any real exposure goodbye and HBO will spread the word not to do business with the league.

I wonder if the networks like HBO and more importantly NBC can sue the league. They were sold a product and my guess is that the league has some obligation to deliver.

Just an ****** mess. Not that I am feeling too badly for the players but the owners are just douches.

The owners need to pull their heads out of their asses and realize that yet another lockout would be devastating to this league. Did they not realize how much 2005 hurt them? This would be even worse just 7 years later.

I would think so too. But, with the Bruins it would be interesting. Would I give up my season tickets to try to get lower prices? It's a rock and a hard place.

Maybe it puts the worse teams out of business. Right now the Bs mgmt has $8600 of mine.
