Participated in Craig Anderson's Goalie School this week. Colin Greening from the Senators showed up yesterday to take shots on us. I stopped all of his shots, even on a breakaway. I thought I was so cool.

I don't think I'm so cool today. I am in pain. I should have let a few go by. He has a nasty slap shot. The one I took to the chest is bruising up pretty bad. My hand still hurts from a glove save. Catching that shot nearly tore my arm off.

As a goalie, where is the worst place to get hit? I know as a skater, there are several places that I would not want to get hit

I remember one game that I got hit in the forearm during warmups (I mostly played inline hockey so it was a plastic puck). I could play but as the game wore on, my arm basically became stiff and I couldn't shoot with any power. I had several passes that I would normally have been able to deliver on but I just couldnt use my arm for any power.

I can understand that one, but I have no friggin' clue why the Blackhawks hired The Ghost:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400341

what are the actual odds that he does leave Phoenix? I have started thinking that if the situation becomes such that he will leave, I dont think Phoenix will just let him go. I think they will try to trade him, which dramatically changes the teams that will be interested (you can scratch every pacific division team) as it will take a major deal to move him.

If your pads don't have them/you don't wear anything to protect yourself - if you ever go flat down on your pads and your knee/thigh just above is exposed and takes a shot straight on. Pretty sure most pros wear thin extra knee pads to cover that spot up, but I've never bothered playing travel or drop in.

Or head merely because it's most annoying - not really painful.

I agree with the knee part. Head shots I love because of the great rebounds you get from them and TBH- I just think it's cool to get hit right between the eyes. Snow from the puck comes in and it feels good.

so does that mean you are pro-snow shower and do not support the individual penalty that can be called?
:p

the more I hear howson, more i realize he is full of it. Does he actually think Nash can suit up in the regular season ? He would be a pariah in the room and his team would be a bigger joke than last year.

If Nash is not moved by opening night (whenever that is) he is better being scratched until he is traded.

^^^^yeah, true enough. that whole situation is a big mess.

After reading @TSNBobMcKenzie's tweets from tonight about the CBA negotiations, I'm starting to feel more pessimistic about the upcoming season. Son of a....

Yes, I think Nash can easily still suit up and even wear the C for CBJ because honestly, who else is there?

CBA owner's proposal was just a dream scenario. Players will now counter with an equally ridiculous proposal and then they'll search for a middle ground. The issue is how long it's going to take them to reach it. Unless they start going into serious discussion sessions (can't we get that now? 2 days a week here and there is nothing), it's not going to move anywhere. I don't want them to wait until September 1 to get on that or we will be looking at a delayed start no doubt.

Agree. I say January. It is true that the counter will be stupid as well but no one has incentive to move unless there is some pain. Missing 2-3 months of hockey should be enough pain.

I'm still sitting on Thanksgiving, but it's too soon to tell. January might as well call it a season. Maybe not literally (some hockey is better than no hockey), but a half season at best would be so terrible.

If the season starts late, I guess I'm going to be frequenting many more Plymouth Whalers games now that I'm back in Michigan for some cheap OHL action.

We will not start on time-there will be a very small delay. Late October/early November. In fact, I can see the NHL pulling an NBA and starting the season on the Friday after thanksgiving, like the NBA did on Christmas.
If there is no Winter Classic, I'll be pissed the F off. I really want to see those alumni games.
If we dont have hockey in January we will have far bigger problems then no Winter Classic-we may be mourning the loss of a sport that will be officially dead in America-

so if the detroit red wings cannot put "hell of a offer" package together that doesnt even get a formal call of rejection, Nash will never be moved.

Also-I want to modify a statement I made above. I said the NHL could start the season the day after thanksgiving-while that can still happen, we actually have scheduled games for that day (It was announced as part of the extension with NBC), so to say the NHL could do what the NBA did and start on a holiday has already happened and is scheduled.

Word is Detroit won't do anything until the Doan situation is figured out, plus CBJ and the market is in no rush (Bobby Ryan, Semin still out there), so time to ignore Nash in my mind. I bet he won't get moved for month(s), if at all.

Tonight from @ DarrenDreger:

Breaking: Shea Weber agrees to offer sheet with Philadelphia. 14 years, upwards of $100 mil. Preds have 7 days to match. Wow!!

Nashville was working on a trade and its believed several deadlines passed before Flyers grew tired of waiting. Weber signed offer sheet.

I'm told a number of teams were in on a possible Shea Weber trade. If Preds don't match, they receive 4- 1st round picks as compensation.

That's pretty crazy. It will be interesting to see what Nashville does!

I guess this is confirmation that Pronger is calling it a career.

I know I should feel bad for Nashville, but I don't. When you have a marquee player like Weber and you are unable to get him signed long term, or cannot convince him to take a reasonable contract, this is what happens. While the length and amount is insane, the per year value is about what he got last year in arbitration. So the Preds knew what he was worth and they did very little to try and get him to sign long term.

Now, they have no choice but to sign him, otherwise the team will become a bottom feeder again.

I think they could have signed him last year for 3 years, $7 mil per year, but they opted for the one year deal.

The Preds have to decide if they can deal with the $27 mil up front that this offer sheet calls for.

I hope the Flyers don't get him....sorry robo.:D:D

Oh the hypocrisy between this offer sheet and the CBA negotiations....

I think the upfront is a hell of a lot more if you include bonuses

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400969

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenceman Shea Weber to a 14-year offer sheet worth a total of of $110 million. The deal includes $68 million in bonus money in the first six years.

In total, Weber will make $14 million in each of the first four years; $12 million in years five and six; $6 million in each of the next four seasons; $3 million in year 11; and $1 million in each of the remaining years.[

I was talking about the first year alone:

From @darrendreger:

Orriginal offer sheet for Shea Weber was 1yr, but Preds would match. $68 mil in bonus $ in 1st 6 yrs, $27 mil total in less than 1 year.

By the way, I heard another reference to the Sharks losing $14 million this past season....
