You going to start over?

I have to. I don’t have a backup of my saved data. Even if I did, I would probably still start over since it’s been so long.

The game I am thinking of picking is Cyberpunk 2077. I have been wanting to try it out for a while, but playing it on my PC or PS5 is harder than I would like.

That’s why like the switch cause I can play it anywhere. I can play during lunch, or flights, or at the in-laws, or when the main screen is taken.

Also got the Mario Kart bundle (I'm going to play it but probably my kids will get way more hours in than me), also looking at Donkey Kong Bananza when it comes out, as well as Metroid Prime 4. Probably sticking to first-party titles, I'll pick up the ones that interest me as the generation goes on.

With only perhaps an hour a day to set aside for gaming, Tears of the Kingdom took me about four months to work through. It was great, and I'd love to have had "better graphics" or "better performance", but I don't really have any intention of playing it again in the near-term. I'd rather spend time with games that I haven't played before.

There are some games from my Switch backlog that I'll be consuming on Switch 2. (Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime remake, the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 "Future Redeemed" DLC...) None of these are games that have been announced to have any specific Switch 2 patch or benefits, but maybe they'll still see more stable performance.

(For third-party games, I'm more apt to pick up the Windows version and play it in Crossover, if there isn't a Mac port.)
I did hold off on playing Echoes of Wisdom on Switch when I learned about performance issues that title had. I really should checkout Metroid, too.

Ahh. I didn’t think that through— I took for granted my NSO membership. Even if you had one it’d be a waste to pay for this whole time without a system to play on huh.

Yeah, I played through EOW on the original Switch. I was aware of the performance problems and would have possibly held off if I was the only gamer in the house, but my kids wanted to play it (two elementary-age gamer girls excited about a "Zelda" Zelda game), so I felt that I had to go ahead and play it so as not to be "spoiled" as they were working through it sort-of simultaneously.

I haven't actually played the Link's Awakening remake yet though. Both of those games are actually getting (free) performance patches for Switch 2, so hopefully the "can't decide between 30/60 FPS" issue doesn't happen on Switch 2 for either of them.

I didn't hold off on any of those other games specifically for performance reasons ... just haven't been able to get them to the top of my to-play list, and now this is a nice maybe-potential perk to waiting! (I am disappointed that there hasn't been any patch announcements for any of the Xenoblade games yet though. Getting 60 FPS and a resolution bump like they are doing with BOTW/TOTK sure would be nice.)

I'm definitely excited for some older games. I think having access to the game cube library should keep me plenty busy. I always thought Wind Waker was a cool looking game, but never got to play it. I'm excited for that one.

I don't know, I think all that game consoles have such thing, but its like opposite - only Deck have it. But I heard, there no sleep function on Switch.
I mean if you press the power button the system screen and fans, turn off. When you press the button again it turns back on where you left off. The Switch doesn't have a hibernate mode, like the Series X/S (where you could remove power and still return to where you were). Neither does the Steam Deck as far as I am aware.

There's definitely a sleep + suspend/resume function, I use it regularly. You can stop your game and put the system to sleep, and come back hours or days later and pick up right where you left off.

Press the "Home" button to return to the list of games. The game that you are currently playing will be automatically suspended.

You can put the system to sleep by hitting the physical power button on the system, by holding down the "Home" button and selecting sleep from the flyout menu that pops up, or by just leaving the system idle and allowing it to idle itself to sleep (you can set the time period for that in system settings). The game remains suspended while the system is in sleep mode.

The suspend point will be "broken" only if:
* You start a different game. (The OS warns you about this.)
* You apply a software update, either to the game that you have suspended, or to the whole system. (The OS warns you about this too, and it won't apply an auto update without asking if it would cause the suspend point to be broken.)
* You fully power off the system (which you have to go out of your way to do, lots of people probably don't even know how to do it), or allow the battery to run down to zero.

Stuff is happening, with less than one week until launch ...

Walmart just charged me for my second order (containing accessories only), set to be delivered in two batches on June 5 and June 6. I haven't been charged for the actual console yet. (The original credit card hold has long since dropped off.) Still worried that something will happen with the console order, the charge will be marked fraud by the bank or something and the order will end up being cancelled :-\

Amazon also alerted me today that the 1TB microSD Express card (Lexar) will be delivered between June 6 and June 8.

Looks like I can't order a second dock until June 5. Will have to wait a week or so for it to arrive, most likely.

No I believe that feature is only on the Xbox Series, I never heard of it before that console, obviously sleep mode is something that’s been around for a while now.

I keep panicking that something will go wrong as well. I’m ordering it for my oldest grandson, and he is SO excited. I’m just hoping all goes off without a hitch.

They did charge me for the console overnight. And it was marked as fraud by the bank! I clicked the "approve" button in the notice that I got, but the charge had already been blocked. Walmart's web site doesn't show that anything is off in the order status. Hopefully, they just try to run the transaction again?

[Edit]
...Might be OK...
Following a suggestion that I read elsewhere, I emptied all of the cards out of my Walmart "wallet", added the card that they had tried to charge back to my "wallet", and then updated the payment method on the order with the new card that I added (which was actually the same card that it already had). I was immediately charged, and it was not marked as fraud by the bank this time.

(Might not have had to take any action at Walmart ... I do see others reporting that support reps say that the system will try multiple times before cancelling the order. As long as you confirm with the bank that the "fraud charge" was actually you, it "should" go through when they eventually retry.)

The charge for mine is pending again now, and I got an email that my order was preparing to ship and to verify address details. Hopefully this is a good sign. 🤞

Is anyone doing a midnight in person pickup?

I really wanted to do a midnight pickup with my grandson, but the only one around here was Best Buy, and I couldn’t get through to pre-order.

My mom, son, and I waited 4-5 hours in a line at our local WalMart to shop for his Wii at midnight. I think he will always remember it.

Walmart order has moved from "placed" to "preparing" state. Hopefully in the clear for a smooth delivery tomorrow...

Currently waiting for Argos to ship my console. They have however shipped my Pro Controller 2. ShopTo have shipped my Mario Kart & SD card as well.

Mine says preparing also, but I’m surprised it’s not to “shipped” considering it’s supposed to arrive tomorrow.
Assuming that you also ordered through Walmart...

If it is Walmart local delivery (blue bag icon next to your order), then it will leave a local store for delivery between 6 AM and 9 AM tomorrow morning. If it is a "regular" delivery (box icon) then yeah, it should move to shipped status with a tracking number any time now ...

———

I was also charged this morning for my 1TB microSD Express card coming from Amazon which means it should be shipping soon. Not necessarily expecting it tomorrow, but hopefully by sometime this weekend...

Okay mine does say delivery from store, but it is saying it will arrive by 10 p.m. tomorrow. I thought it was supposed to be early.

That’s placeholder text that they’re showing to everyone. It should still be early.
