I got a 1 TB microSD Express card ordered from Amazon. You will need to use a tracker like Keepa to be alerted when it becomes in stock. They have been periodically adding stock (every few days), but they sell out quickly whenever it happens. (Note: There are lots of "options" on that page, but only the "Play Pro" line is microSD Express.)

———

I preordered at the midnight drop last week. I think I had it lucky? I happened to refresh Walmart a few minutes *before* midnight and it dropped me in the virtual line. It just took about 15 minutes to get through the line and then placing my preorder went... mostly smoothly. It did decline my primary credit card, which is weird because that never happens, but it worked with a different one. I wasn't sure if it was my bank or just the web site being flaky, but I got a text message from the bank about an hour later asking if it was really me that tried to buy something.

(I was also checking Target and Best Buy. Target was completely dead for a while, and Best Buy was 30 minutes late with starting to take preorders.)

Anyway, I've been checking that order status about once a day. I'm afraid that they are going to randomly cancel it :-\

Ordered some accessories as well (separately). Pro Controller, Mario Kart wheel thing, and a case + screen protector. I want to get an extra dock, too. (I have an extra dock for my OG Switch. It gets used in two different TVs in different rooms.) It looks like the extra dock is only available through Nintendo's web site and they aren't taking orders yet.

I’ve been so scared about my WM one getting cancelled also. I won’t close the window in safari, and I took like 10 pictures of the confirmation page - lol. My card has the charge hold on it, so I’m hoping for the best.

There was definitely a ton of talk about disappointment in the console and more so the game pricing for the switch 2.

That disappointment definitely was not represented in pre-order sales. Maybe it will be once units are on shelves, but I kind of doubt it.
I was negative about the game prices Weill the 80 dollars and 90 dollars are a bit extreme, but for now unique to 2 games I believe. The console I think is fantastic value.
But this is the modern day net where you will get thousands being angry and upset over simple things.

Well now $80 USD is the new price for first party Xbox games too! So Nintendos not alone anymore. I honestly think I may just be done with new consoles. I was excited for Switch 2 but the price is just too high IMO. $110 CAD before tax for a game, $630 for the console. And I'm one of the suckers that bought a 3DS at launch. It's just too much for a thing that only plays games.

I've already got too many games tbh anyways.

Actually only first party AAA Xbox games will cost 80, each of which will be on Game Pass anyway. So only those who don't have Game Pass will be paying it really.

But of course they may well increase Game Pass prices. It's rubbish though as DOOM is out in less then 2 weeks and I'll be annoyed if it costs 80 dollars, or the equivalent here in the UK.

Yes certainly getting more expensive. I think the Switch 2 console is good value.

At least with Xbox you can wait 6-12month and a game will be discounted by 40-50%. The same is not true for nintendo games. However Zelda and mario games can be so lovable that i don't mind paying full price.

I probably won't buy a card right away. It's strange that they are waiting to launch 3rd party SD cards until June 5th.
I agree, but I see Gamestop will have a 1 TB June 5, so will just get one then. I have to pick up the Nintendo Switch 2 on that day anyway from Gamestop.

Hadn't realized that, cool that there is a second option for 1TB. Though I'm skeptical that they will have a lot of them in stock, at least right at the Switch 2 launch.

I ordered mine online without a problem here in Russia (priced $725 including 20% VAT), only Mario Cart bundle is sold out. But, I don't know, isn't it a console for a kids? Steam Deck or Mac should be a way better for gaming.
Only interesting in mouse and katana in CP77 with new JoyCons. Still thinking to cancel my pre-order...

No, Nintendo is most certainly NOT for kids….. I have been going round and round and round in what to buy, use for games. I have a Steam Deck OLED and it just is a very niche item, because you end up buying only cheap games or indies, and then never playing them lol as you have so many. It can’t run any new titles well. Then you think I’ll buy a Claw 8, yeah £900 later.. and in 3 years it won’t play the latest games either.

I just find myself sat in front of my console again, so I need to wake up to the fact really I just need a PlayStation, and Switch in my life (Luigi’s Mansion is epic). So will get a Switch 2 for Christmas etc. And ‘consider’ the PS6 if it costs £650 or more. And I am 51. I could buy all these different things but just seem to find myself in front of a console still.

There are definitely games that are very kid friendly, maybe even outright for kids (Mario Wonder was very kid friendly). But the Zelda games and Metroid are clearly for an adult (or teen) audience.

I've always seen it as this: If you love Nintendo's first party titles, get a Nintendo console. No questions about it. If you're more into third part titles, sports games, or other stuff, then PC, PlayStation, or Xbox might be a better option

And I went ahead and got the 256gb Samsung card from Best Buy, as well as several other accessories. I want to have everything with the console when we pick it up at midnight on the 5th.

We will probably have to upgrade that card at some point, but I just want to make sure we have room for everything that we want on Day 1. We have both Zelda games, MKW, and Mario Party Jamboree. We will probably get the console tour game for $10 and play lots of gamecube games. I think that card should get us through the first year with the console, I hope.

Even Mario kart world is $30 more than the regular price of the current $60 Mario games for switch

Y’all think the super Mario party jamboree and jamboree tv add on is all that? The main part of the game you can still get for both systems, just jamboree tv add on requires an add on DLC for switch 2 or get the more expensive switch 2 copy.

MKW is $80, so only $20 more...

The upgrades for jamboree are:

Upgrade details

  • New way to play exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2: Jamboree TV
  • New modes that use mouse controls, microphone and a compatible USB-C® camera (sold separately)
  • Players appear within the game via CameraPlay using a compatible USB-C® camera (sold separately)
  • GameShare compatibility for local multiplayer
  • WQHD (1440p) resolution in TV mode***, Full HD (1080p) in tabletop mode and handheld mode (Jamboree TV only)
  • Visually enhanced with improved frame rate

I think it would probably be worth it if you're going to buy into the Switch 2 ecosystem and get a camera. Mario Party games are always very good at incorporating peripherals, so the mouse, mic, and camera controls will probably be really fun. It also might depend on your TV and if it can handle higher frame rate.

Okay so my temporary hold on my credit card dropped off from my WalMart pre-order. I didn't get anything from WalMart saying my order was gonna be cancelled, and when I click on order status, it still shows it'll be delivered June 5th.

Should I be concerned that the hold dropped? Is that common? I just figured it would hold the amount until it actually charged.

it's normal for the charge to drop off. you'll be charged for real when the switch ships.

Thanks for the advice. I still intend to keep my Switch. I haven’t played it as frequently since I resumed playing Pokémon on my DS for Generation IV, specifically in the game Platinum that I owned since launch.

A year and a half ago, I completed 100% of my Kirby Star Allies. I still have my Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which I plan to revisit later this summer. I left off around World 6 and stopped playing it a year ago.

If I find a good deal on either Mario Party Superstars or Mario Party Jamboree, which one should I choose? Also, I should get a new set of Joy-Cons because the red one is drifting and cannot connect for multiplayer mode.

I don’t think that they can even have a hold last for multiple weeks. When I pre-ordered the OG Switch from Target I think they put a new hold on my card from time to time until the thing actually shipped. In any case, I don’t think this is something to worry about.

At this point, just got to pay attention in the days leading up to release, making sure your card isn’t near max (to be safe make sure you could take *two* charges of the purchase amount, there could be another temporary hold plus the actual charge if they are being dumb), and generally that the order isn’t otherwise randomly cancelled…

One month to go 😬

I would think newer is better. Walmart has it now for $43.

Have you looked into joycon repair? I've read that it's a free service directly from Nintendo and that they do a great job and the turn around is quick. I'd definitely try that.

Yeah, I’ll check if my younger brother wants it so we can play together on it. He’s been debating between Superstars, Jamboree or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for our next game purchase.

Also, I’ll take a look at that link. I’ll probably fix the Joy-Con drift and the connectivity issues so we can play together again on the TV. Thanks, friend! I appreciate it.

3 1/2 weeks. I'm starting to get pretty excited.

I will need a longer HDMI cable. It uses HDMI 2.0, I think. Anyone have a longer 2.0 or 2.1 cable that they like?

thanks for this reminder. I have an original Switch and have that joy con drifting issue. Just filled out the paperwork online, dead simple. Just have to box them up and send them away. Have not used my Switch in a while partially because I have not had any games I want to play on it and when I do play some of the classic Nintendo games the drift was annoying.

A week and a day to go. I am so excited. I have never gotten a console at launch before.

Although part of my excitement is because my switch got stolen a year ago in the middle of me playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and I didn’t want to buy a replacement and then have the Switch 2 come out. I was going to play Fire Emblem: Engage afterwards so I have some games I need to play queued up.

Also excited. My first Nintendo since the Wii and Gameboy before it.

Got the Mario Kart Bundle.

What games are you guys interested in picking up in the first 2-3 months or so?

Should be worth the wait— Tears of the Kingdom should play better on the Switch 2. (There were specific instances… usually involving fire :p— that would realllllly slow down on Switch— I suppose you may have already experienced it). You going to start over? I started it in 2023 when it came out, played for a month and then put it down because I needed to focus on some other projects and I didn’t come back to it until September 2024… I had to start over, haha. No regrets.

Also got the Mario Kart bundle (I'm going to play it but probably my kids will get way more hours in than me), also looking at Donkey Kong Bananza when it comes out, as well as Metroid Prime 4. Probably sticking to first-party titles, I'll pick up the ones that interest me as the generation goes on.

With only perhaps an hour a day to set aside for gaming, Tears of the Kingdom took me about four months to work through. It was great, and I'd love to have had "better graphics" or "better performance", but I don't really have any intention of playing it again in the near-term. I'd rather spend time with games that I haven't played before.

There are some games from my Switch backlog that I'll be consuming on Switch 2. (Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime remake, the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 "Future Redeemed" DLC...) None of these are games that have been announced to have any specific Switch 2 patch or benefits, but maybe they'll still see more stable performance.

(For third-party games, I'm more apt to pick up the Windows version and play it in Crossover, if there isn't a Mac port.)
