I don't mind the notch myself, but the cynic in me feels like they held back. Then again, I don't like Face ID on my iPad Pro.

Glad to see the touchbar go away, speaker upgrades, better ports, magsafe, and excited for what Apple silicon is doing. There is so much to like.
Yeah, I don't think I'd care even if they DID add FaceID. TouchID works so well and even if I'm wearing a mask and such.

The ugly NOTCH is here to stay sadly and not going anywhere despite everyone complaining about it...

The notch houses more than just a 1080p camera. It also houses the TrueTone sensor (colors consistent in all lighting conditions), light sensor (adjusts brightness/keyboard illumination), and “camera on” LED.

You’re missing the point here. The bezel of the iPad Pro is thin enough, it looks great. And a far superior look than the notch.

The MBP with the bezels of the iPad Pro would have been perfect.
Look at this guy wanting his MBP’s lid to be as fat as an iPad Pro.

No, you're missing the point. If you want the bezel of the iPad Pro, then the lid has to be much thicker than it currently is, as the inside of the lid, where the hardware goes, is not the blooming TARDIS!! 😆

So, notch or thicker lid, meaning when in clamshell, it's even thicker too?

Again some people dont realise...the notch is there...the menu bar is part of the of it
Until now, the aspect ratio was 16:10 WITH the menu bar
Now, we have same exact 16-10 FULL 2x native resolution WITHOUT the menu bar....so basically apple took the 16:10 and add to it the menu bar..so its an improvement
The discussion isn't about extra pixels, it's about introducing a shape on your display that doesn't belong.

It's like putting a big piece of black tape on the windshield of your car and convincing yourself it looks 'cool' and is no obstruction at all.

I want to see your facial expression, if the new iPad Pro gets a thiner bezel with a notch too.

What facial expression? I won’t buy it and keep my M1 12.9 iPad Pro. I am not an Apple sheep who buys the latest and greatest every year.

The M1 12.9 iPad Pro is the best mobile computer that Apple currently has in terms of how it looks.

Actually, it’s more like taking the current screen and adding extra screen above it, that has a small gap in the middle. You’re just taking a pessimistic view of it.

Also, that ’shape that doesn’t belong’ is in the menu bar, where the vast majority of the time, there’s nothing utilising that space. When apps are full screened, apps will either utilise the extra space via compatibility mode, or just not use that actual row, and the screen it does use, is the same amount of screen it would use in comparison to an equivalent notch less older MacBook……

It’s funny that the aggressive notch haters are not looking at all the facts available, and are running on assumptions and cherry picking parts of facts to support their flawed points.

Since people are ignoring those facts, even still, I just cannot be bothered to waste anymore time here. ?

Many users autohide their menu bar. So what happens when they want 2 apps side by side, not fullscreen?

We're not fullscreen, so it won't be blacked out.
If it’s not using compatibility mode, it will be full screen. Maybe you should go read up on things, as you’re obviously going on you’re assumptions.

There’s been links to the information in this thread, and Macrumors have posted articles, along with other tech sites covering all this.

It's not explained since I'm not fullscreen.
Fullscreen is easy, I press the button and the notch-bar turns black.
Or when auto-hiding the menubar isn't enabled, nothing happens when I drag a window to the top of the screen.

What happens when the menubar is on 'auto-hide' and I move my windows to the top?
Please, enlighten me or give me a link.

I assume we need to wait for the reviews on Monday to find out. Also how bad it really is.

I use the Mac with Menu Bar hidden so the notch being there will make the thing worse.

But perhaps you just take it as an "extra real estate" and use a black wallpaper.

Hopefully in the coming months there will be devs who will make a utility to cosmetically fix this issues.

I use Mosaic as my window management tool so it will be interesting how they approach this.

At the end of the day. This is wasted space for those who hide their menu bar.

But if your windshield already had a big piece of black tap going across it and you removed 95% of it wouldn’t it be less obstructed?

A piece of tape across the entire width would be fine, your brain would instantly adjust and see it as the new frame you're looking at/through.

However removing 95% and have a small center piece protruding from the frame would constantly beg for attention.

But they do already have that via the rear view mirror, your brain adapts.
