Are you making the NHL Thread grandmaster?![]()
We ususally keep the discussion in this thread, but sure why not.
I just figured since I saw a MLB playoff thread we should get the same treatment too, plus it IS a whole new season
We have no touch icing in our rec league, but then if they waited for us to go after it, too much extra time might come off the clock. Not to mention some rookie teams would get beaten back into their defensive zone every time and they wouldn't get the icing calls.
In the NHL, they are too good, and maybe 1 in 10 or 1 in 15 times the offensive player beats out the icing call, or it wraps the boards hard enough to come around the wing for the play on net. That's too high an occurrence for them to eliminate it. I do wish they would go back to more obstruction and interference calls. It seems like they cracked down and relaxed again. More flow, less clutch n grab. It does seem like the one thing I have noticed is since the lockout and the new rules and the refs being 'harder' with calls, that there are almost no cross-checking calls anymore, and I sure do see enough of it.
Go Avs!
Icing is one of the hardest rules to try and think of a solution for. You need it in some instances, and you don't in others.
