I apologize in advance to everybody for the redonkulously long post. It does make for a good discussion though.
Ugh.
You like the Rock?
Do you genuinely like it or compared to your home arena like it?
I think I genuinely like it. Our building is old, but it has character.
I've gone to 3 games there this year and I think its a horrible place for a hockey game. Its very clean, and the outside design is very nice - but inside it seems like they went the cheapest route, instead of the nicest route. One of the games I went to was the 2nd game of the season, vs Tampa - there was 8,000 people in there and there was absolutely no hockey vibe to it. It might as well have been a Celine Dion concert. (I sat in one of the luxury boxes which was cool). The next game I went to was vs the Rangers, so at least there was some emotion in the building because the Ranger fans helped to sell it out.
That's because you NJ people don't take care of your teams. Honestly what is with you guys? The Devils have won 3 cups, the Nets came close to winning it all twice. (Well to be fair the Nets are moving to Brooklyn lol)
Its clean, spacious and bright. Too bright. Why wouldn't they dim the lights during game-play like all other arenas?
And why are nearly all of the concession areas movable booths? (I didn't go in any of the restuarants, I'm sure they are pretty decent...)
Why is there no seperator between $65.00 seats and $100 seats? Usually there's a walkway or somethng to seperate the sections - I sat behind the goalie, I think I was row 8 (of the middle tier) - the guy in Row 7 paid $100 for his ticket, I paid $65! The seats in the upper tier are terrible! The height and angle is so bad.. granted they are only $5.00 or $10.00 seats, but still - if that was my first game ever and I sat there I wouldn't be in any rush to go back.
It is a bit too bright. They need to paint the walls with red and black paint to take out some of the contrast. I like the hockey jerseys around the place, nice touch. Oh, and the NJ logo stamped on top of the toliets.
Can't answer that one. At least the hallways are spacious, unlike the Coliseum. You can't go to the Fire and Ice Grills unless you have season tickets and what not. Lame.
Forget that, why do the tickets jump from like $25 to $60? I had to spend $60 to sit up top essentially. Not cool. They have excellent sight lines there, not a bad seat in the house. I felt far, but yet close at the same time it was weird. MSG has horrific sight lines, and you can't argue that.
In 5 years, when that place isn't so clean and "new" anymore its going to be a miserable place to see a game.
Since it's NJ, I say 3 years.

Dirty Jersey.
I get excited when I go to the Garden, I even thought it was cool to see a game at Nassau because of their history (when I went for the Pens game a few years ago it was the first time I'd been there for a hockey game), I even used to enjoy the atmosphere at the CAA - but the Rock? Yuck. If I was a Devils fan, I'd be dissappointed. They should have moved to Nashville when they had the chance.
The Coliseum certainly does have a lot of history and character, but it's old and it's falling apart. I love to hate the Coliseum, but it's my home.
Give it time, I'm sure The Rock will grow on ya. Ugh CAA was horrible.
I noticed as well that at Ranger/Islander games the Lets go Rangers chants overpower the crowd. I'm not trying to brag or anything, but the Islander fans need to show up to support their team man. Especially in a NY/NY game.
No, I take no offense. I know what's going on and it infuriates me. There are a lot of Ranger fans on LI, but still Isles fans need to step up their game.
I understand where they're coming from, it's part of the fan friendliness, as well as trying to bring fans in, but ...
... as much as sports are a family thing, parents can't expect to take their kids to a "clean" hockey game. Although they stopped playing lets go team at the Garden because of the Potvin Sucks chant. Of course we still do it lol. Honestly though, okay the Rangers Suck song, as stupid as I think it is, I get it. We do Potvin sucks, but do you really need to chant "Hey You Suck" after you guys score a goal. I mean come on, that's not a goal chant you can do when you're down 4 to 2 you know what I'm saying. Plus I just think it's rude. And trust me I'm all for being loud and telling people what I think at a game. As you know I told you I had my own chant against me at the Coliseum last time I was there lol, but I think that goal chant is just terrible. Just my opinion.
Hockey isn't a clean game. Hockey is gritty, rough and dirty. Hands down the best sport ever. You can take away the song but that won't stop fans, it's useless.
Technically we're just adding "You Suck!", but yea it's not exactly clever or creative. It's essentially just to take a dig at the opposing team. And I know what you're saying. I chant the "You Suck!" part when we're leading (ex: 1-0, 2-0) or when we tie it up (ex: 1-1, 3-3). I never chant it when we're losing, as there is no point. If the other team sucks so much why the hell are we losing the game then? My favorite universal chant has to be "@sshole!" So good and so effective. "Beat the traffic!" is another favorite of mine.
Yeah they need to do something about that ice.
Yea, please don't remind me.
Congratulations, no one really cares lol :-D
I do! That's a solid 18 points right there.
Fine with me, they have none since him, so let them be.
Oh right.
Sorry for the double post.
Are you really? I don't think you are
Long Island tends to be pretty big on hockey, not really a big place for guys to get drafted from, but there's a decent sized group of fans in the two counties. I've been finding a lot more hockey fans lately than I knew before. But when I was much younger, everyone was a hockey fan. The problem for the Islanders though is there's still a huge Rangers fan base, even on Long Island. Many of it is kids that moved from one of the city boroughs, but the other part of it is the same situation as yours. Heritage in the sport before the team was around. A lot of kids dads or grand dads were living on Long Island and were Rangers fans before the Isles were around.
I honestly find it hard to find a hockey fan. I did however make 2 non-hockey people into Isles fans

. There is a much larger Ranger fan base on Long Island then there is a for Isles fans.
I had long since lived in queens when I got into hockey, I was living on Long Island for about 3 actually, in Nassau county none the less lol. But the person who got me into it was a Rangers fan. Hence my allegiance to the Blue Shirts.
Nassau County baby!!!
Clearly rooting for the wrong team.
And lmao @ the Gortons Fisherman jersey. That was some jersey wasn't it? Haha lol, oh man. FISH STICKS!!
WE WERE ALL ON VACATION! NOTHING HAPPENED!
I want to own one of those jerseys actually lol.
The thing I love about Joe is he's the first to rip on the refs for making bad calls. But anyone who doesn't miss JD just isn't a Rangers fan. But hey, they say all good things must end right?
It's true, he does rip the refs first. I will give him that.
