Kat was called "stim-junkie" by Starbuck in "Scar." And the rivalry between the two pilots never really ended in "Scar"; I always took the ending to "Scar" as Starbuck grudgingly acknowledging losing that round to Kat, but not the whole war. Plus, if you go back to "Torn," I thought Kat and Starbuck was going to start slugging each other in the pilot rec room when Starbuck and Tigh were busy "bringing down morale."

Fact is, Kat and Starbuck went at each other because they were so similar. It took Kat's final sacrifice to get each other to show their respect.

EDIT: I have to admit that some of the looks back before the attack haven't worked out all that well in my mind, either. Not sure why. (Well, besides the atrocious "Black Market.")

EDIT x2: I don't think you're supposed to connect her drug-running past with her stim addiction. You don't hear about crack dealers getting hooked on pills.

EDIT x3: I must say, also, that the Cylon parts of the story are starting to feel like a drag, too.

Yeah. It doesn't help that they don't have any clue or plan after all. When Baltar asks "I wish I knew what you all did, riding on this ship like a bunch of fleas" (or something), I can't help but agree. What are they actually doing besides having three-way sex?

I was wondering whether Baltar is going to find out all the other Cylons are watching from behind the walls, like suddenly a light will come on to reveal them and he'll realise he's been treated like a lab rat.

Yeah, as I said above, some of the mystery (and resulting potency) of the Cylons and the associated threat has been diminished over this past season. It's only to be expected, since we are learning about them more and so forth, but I have to question why the opening credits still say "And the have a plan". Really? Because unless this is the most ingenious plan ever devised and is so subtle and sophisticated that we have been completely duped by them and are completely oblivious, I wouldn't think there is much of a plan anymore - they seem as lost as the humans. (Which I suppose, ironically, makes them more human in some respects.... ;) :D) I thought the initial plan may have centered around the creation of Hera primarily and perhaps some other ingenious ways to destroy the humans, but now that they have Hera, and didn't outright destroy the humans when they had the chance on New Caprica, I'm not sure what they're planning on doing, with Hera or with anything/anyone else for that matter.

Is it Earth? Is that part of their "plan"? Why do the Cylons want to "settle" there? Wouldn't that involve wiping it out first? And if not, why live in peace with the Earthlings? How will living with humans "help" their current situation? What's wrong with the Cylon homeworld?

And what's the deal with these hybrids that run the Basestars? What exactly do they mean by "hybrid"? Isn't that what they were striving to create with Athena and Helo? Where did they come from and why/how can they run the ship? ANd if they were put in place by the Cylons (who would then presumably know a lot about them and how they operate) why do the hybrids speak cryptically (where do they get that information from?) and why do the Cylons not understand them? Furthermore, why is it that all it takes is Baltar to put his hand in some goo to get some answers out of the hybrid on the location of Earth - why didn't the Cylons do that before?

So, obviously there are still many questions to be answered, especially regarding the final 5 Cylon models, but I just hope that the writers are able to stay sharp and completely wow us with the answers as they are revealed. In a way, I suppose it's their own damn fault for setting the bar (and resulting expectations) so high with the first couple seasons of the series. ;)

Lastly, I guess we need to remember the season is only half over as well, and a (hopefully) big cliffhanger will be coming net week, so I have confidence the writers have lots of surprises left for us.

I can't comment on all your other comments (it's very late here), but the one I've highlighted is because as I watched that part of the episode I got the feeling of the "all that is happening now has happened before" feeling, Baltar is a part of the "grand scheme", he may well not be a Cylon but he is part of everyone's destiny, just my thought.

Episode 11/8

It was good to see Tigh come back onto the deck. I wonder if it was because he ran out of booz though!?:p I was really surprise to see Kat go. Then again she was one of the crew that came in midseason.

Now no one had made notice about the story of Baltar and the other two cylons (number six and the other one). Besides sleeping with both of them at the same time:D I wonder if they are falling in love with him or what? And if so thats got to bring some type of tension between the two cylons later (unless they like to share).

It would be cool if in the next episode if we got to see this new planet.

And lastly has anyone notice that the guy writing the soundtrack for battle star galactica is heavily influenced by Philip Glass?

Do you really need more than that? ;) :D

Yes, actually. I can totally buy that they're overtly sexual beings that do all sorts of kinky stuff in their Basestars. (The fact that they can explicitly project inside a Basestar leads to all sorts of possibilities.) :D

But one of the best parts of BSG is watching the gears turn inside the characters' heads as they battle each other. (One of my favorite scenes from Season 3 is Caprica Six getting shot in the head just to shut her up long enough for Baltar to sign the order of execution.) Sadly, we've barely seen the Cylons do anything of the sort since they left New Caprica. As Baltar himself said, they just kinda walk around the same hallways all day, exercise naked, and have sex.

Maybe this was done on purpose. They are machines, after all. Maybe a lot of the boring stuff (maintenance, manufacturing, organization) is automated or handled by boring networked CPUs. But it's not that interesting to watch. They can't have entire episodes devoted to finding supplies, for instance.

What's the plan? Well, first it was genocide and procreation. Boomer and Caprica Six eventually changed it to benevolent guidance (i.e. occupation). Now it appears they're heading for Earth. But why? That's probably the biggest question of Season 3.

EDIT: It would have really helped if they could have focused some more on Boomer. She's got to be the most screwed up and conflicted Cylon, yet she's been invisible since Exodus. Where are you, Boomer?

Yeah, I know what you mean. That feeling just seemed to be significantly more prevalent in the first season and into the second season, that's all. But yes, it is still there and it does lead to all sorts of interesting possibilities. :)

Yup, agree...

Also, I liked in this past episode how mention was made of the 5 lights which D'anna was seeing between resurrections and how it was apparently (or at least had something to do with) the remaining 5 Cylon models. What does this mean though? Were the 5 models "ancient" models which have moved on to a higher state, etc. which the other 7 models possibly revere and despise at the same time? Did the other 5 choose not to be resurrected and as a result are now permanently in "the afterlife"? It would probably be more than this, otherwise the other Cylons who died due to the virus, away from their resurrection ships, would be there too. Unless these 5 models figured out a way not to "die" in this respect and exist in a higher state... Very interesting...

And as I've said before, I wonder how many seasons BSG will go on for. I sure hope it doesn't drag on or else it will undoubtedly lose its impact and edge. Although I love the show to death and think it is one of the best shows of recent times, I have to honestly say I hope there is only 1 or 2 more seasons after this one. It simply can't keep up this pace and stay fresh year after year, and I don't want the show to continue simply because of popularity and fan base. Hopefully the producers are wise enough to know when to pull the plug - I don't want BSG turning into a 10-season Stargate or something...

I don't think the planet described to Baltar by the Hybrid is Earth. It's the planet with the algae where the fleet is going to be harvesting food for a while. The Hybrid mentioned an Artifact, so it's obviously got something mythological going on, and I would suspect next week will be the Humans and Cylons both trying to reach it first. The Ancient "artifact" was used in the original series too if you remember. Apollo and Starbuck found Count Iblis stranded alone on a planet and one thing he did was deliver Baltar to the humans..

I really liked that episode. The focus wasn't on finding supplies, it was all leading up to an established character making a sacrifice. I agree with ~Shard~ about the other five Cylons too. They chose not to come back and instead exist in the space between life and death, and I think the D'anna model on the Basestar will make the same choice towards the end of this season and take all the D'annas with her.

And lastly has anyone notice that the guy writing the soundtrack for battle star galactica is heavily influenced by Philip Glass?

Yup.

Actually, there are snippets of Glass' music used in the series. When Starbuck goes back to Caprica in Valley of Darkness (S02E02), the music playing in her apartment is Metamorphosis Five from Glass' Solo Piano album.

There is a lot of minimalist type stuff in the show. The piano that plays on the Cylon Basestars is very Mozart sonata like with a never resolving, repeating theme in a Glass style.

Richard Gibbs was a member of Oingo Boingo with Danny Elfman in the early 80's.

That was a very interesting season closer (I'll wait to talk about it more in detail until some others start talking about it), but it's going to return on a frakkin' SUNDAY! WHAT HAPPENED TO SCI-FI FRIDAY! Is it me, or does it seem like shows that have low ratings move to Sunday before they are canceled?

I can't believe this... SHAME ON YOU SCI-FI!!

~Walks out of room crying~

Tonight's episode was pretty good. There's a lot going on with all of the characters. The season opener should be quite interesting.

WoooooO! Thats what I'm talking about! Finally we get some grit in BSG again!! Man, I'm gonna watch that again and then make more comments.

Best show in seson 3? Maybe!

EDIT x3: I must say, also, that the Cylon parts of the story are starting to feel like a drag, too.

Im actually liking the Cylon parts because that end of the story may be leading to how Baltar get his own basestar. In TOS baltar was always flying around in his own personal basestar.

btw, who else the the sneak peek at "Children of Men" looked pretty wicked awesome?

This is what I understand from various sources:

The term 'hybrid' is short for one of two thing: Centurion-humanoid hybrid and humanoid-human hybrid. The Centurion-humanoid hybrids are part metal-and-wire and part flesh-and-blood. (a la Positronic Man)

Hera is the first of a 'new' generation in the sense that the order the cylons evolved in was Centurion, CenturionRaptor, Centurion-humanoid hybrid, humanoid, then now a humanoid-human hybrid.

Great episode! In terms of the cliffhanger, I highly doubt Adama will use nukes, but it make for a lot of tension if nothing else.

What I'm curious about, is how there are 5 Cylon models left and now we find out that the scriptures refer to "The Temple of 5" of whatever it was called. It's almost as if the 5 remaining Cylons are one in the same with these other 5, but how can this be? I mean, it's not like hundreds of years of history has been lost with respect to the Cylons - there were "missing" for, what, 40 years before they attacked again? Presumably these humanoid models would not have been around prior to this, only the "toasters"? ;) So how could the final 5 models be in the scriptures dating back hundreds of years ago and what is their role then? Furthermore, why do the other 7 Cylon models appears to not know anything about these other 5? I mean, come on, there were most likely created around the same time and it was only 40 years ago! And what would they have to do (if anything) with the 13th colony???

It will be interesting to see how things play out...

I just hope it doesnt get lame like TOS > especially when they find Earth (13th Colony) I skipped this WHOLE thread because I've been playing catchup on Season 1-2-3. Although Allucorg doesnt have much of season 3 ...

are we on Season 3 or 4?! Sorry I work weird hours, so Fridays seem like Sundays to me!>

D00000D THE SUSPENSE

near the end i was like, please don't end it here, please dont end it here.

and they do.

DAMNIT!!!!

Anyone else thinking that The Eye of Jupiter is the upcoming supernova? Looks awfully like a sun on that column in the temple.

"All this has happened before. All this will happen again."

Actually, yes, that sums it up quite nicely... ;)

Allucorg doesnt have much of season 3 ...

What's allucorg?

This is Season 3.

near the end i was like, please don't end it here, please dont end it here.

Yeah, I was the same way, but I knew it was coming - the editing got tighter, the music more intense - you knew with about 3 minutes left actually that things were coming to a head and we'd be left hanging. I love it though. :D

Anyone else thinking that The Eye of Jupiter is the upcoming supernova? Looks awfully like a sun on that column in the temple.

Yeah, I was actually thinking the same thing. I want to watch the episode again and pay attention the the scripture references to see if anything might be symbolic of a supernova. Of course, if there is any reference to "the power of the sun" or some equivalent, that could always refer to the nukes Adama plans on launching. ;)
