Still waiting on my DSL to get fixed. Is this ep better than the mid-season cliffhanger last year with the Pegasus and Galactica preparing to attack each other?

It's a subjective thing I guess, but IMO it is - more tension and the overall situation/what's at stake is greater. That being said, that whole Pegasus story arc was frackin' sweet... ;)

In reference to the "eye of Jupiter" I was thinking about our own massive storm on our Jupiter in the Sol System. Not thinking to deeply here just that quote reminded me of it.

D00000D THE SUSPENSE

near the end i was like, please don't end it here, please dont end it here.

and they do.

DAMNIT!!!!

I recall myself throwing something and cursing when that "to be continued..." came on screen. I get so into this show, especially this episode, I lost track of time, and then bam, I/we have to wait a loooong time for the end of it.

The three hour roundtable podcast was cool, haven't listened to the ep.310 one yet, and no ep.311 one yet. They tease me so.

I'm a little late to the party here, but hey, someone's got to give a shout out for Boomer, so it might as well be me. :p

Damn, though, it hurts to see her turn her back on her human past.

Better late than never!

It's going to be interesting to see if the Athena we know stays or if the Boomer we all knew and loved, and sometimes hated, will return.

So does anyone else think that the symbol of the Eye of Jupiter in the Temple of Five resembles the painting Starbuck painted in her apartment when they visited it back on Caprica in the beginning of Season 2? Here are a couple screenshots I grabbed...

If so, what does this mean?

You are amazing! You are so right! How did you remember that far back?!

Thanks. ;)

Well, besides being a BSG junkie and absorbing every glorious episode frame by frame ;) :D I always found it interesting that Thrace was an artist at one point - hence why that scene kind of stuck out for me. Plus, I had been watching through all of Season 2 this summer to tide me over for Season 3 so I guess it was somewhat fresh in my memory.

Anyway, when I saw the symbol in the recent episode, I thought that it looked familiar and started thinking back to where I had seen it before - and jackpot, there are indeed strikingly similar.

Oh Oh Oh! And so who do you suppose the Hybrid means when she's talking about "...sins revealed only to those who enter the temple, only to the "CHOSEN ONE..." === mmm, Starbuck, perhaps?

Brilliant!

Nice catch. It's reassuring that they didn't just whip out the Eye of Jupiter from thin air.

Unfortunately, it doesn't offer any clue as to what the frak the Eye of Jupiter actually is...

Very nice catch Mr. ~Shard~!

I'm not sure if it means much though - Kara is one of the more religious members of BSG, and I'm sure would have read similar text to those that Tyrol mentioned in the episode. So maybe she just painted an icon (which happened to be the Eye of Jupiter) which is mentioned and existed in these texts?

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm not sure what it means either, and perhaps Kara did paint it based on some scripture readings or something, but even so, would there have actually been pictures of it for her to base it off of? And colored pictures at that, since even the color scheme is the same? ;)

That is a very strong resemblance. I wonder if producers have made this plot up all the way from the beginning.

In some respects it would be cool if the writers had a "master plan" of how the entire series would play out right from the beginning as oposed to making it up as they went along, as that would give the series a clear vision and so forth. That being said, spontaneity is great too and you have to adapt and throw new ideas into the mix as well. I believe Ron Moore made a comment relating to this on one of the weekly BSG podcats, but I can't remember for sure what all was said.

I think it would be brilliant if there was really a plan from the beginning, and your find, Shard, gives me hope.

As far as my expectations go... this episode exceeded them. I seriously respect the writer's skill setting up a multitude of face-offs, each reflecting and amplifying the others—in space, on the ground, between the Sharons, in the meeting room on Galactica, between Kara and Lee, Sam and Lee, etc. And then we get some really choice efforts from the cast which seem to have been reserved for the more "critical" episode, or elicited by a more inspired director, such as Helo's "you of all people..... should know what it's like to lose a child," or where Roslin is more moved to hear that the child Hera is still alive than that Athena has learned the truth, or Cavill's brilliant little wink at the end of the parlay.

I was relieved that there was not a "hidden threat" on the planet, and that Tyrol wasn't "feeling watched," per se, as is the cliche. I'm also happy that the messy love situation between the two married couples is being given the soft touch with allusions ("swear an oath and keep to it") and with Dee's all-business way of dealing with her situation.

I can't wait to see how this is resolved.

...I'm also intrigued that Moore has only written one of the episodes this season so far. I wonder if that means we're going to get a run next season or what, since his choreography is always the most elegant, and of course most directly addresses the arc plot.

Ron Moore said on one of the recent podcasts that he feels "burnt out" at the moment, so it looks like he's taken a backseat on the writing to make sure the show doesn't suffer.

I'm also sure that on one of the podcasts from last season, Moore said how much he'd admired the way Babylon 5 was designed around one big story arc that had been written before the first episode was shot, with smaller plotlines and standalone episodes being added and inserted later. It sort of fits with the way BSG has gone so far, so it's possible that Kara's painting of the Eye was already scripted right back at the beginning.

I agree. Spontaneity is great, hell that's how I finished my exams today, however, they just needed that simple element to keep in mind during the episode.

Finally

Finally got my DSL working and only 2 weeks after the activation date :( . Anyways spent the first day of my vacation (yesterday) downloading and watching all the episodes at once. It's only 768kps. Just finished watching The Passage and Eye of Jupiter this morning. I've read all the spoilers and listend to all of the fan podcasts I could find before watching a single frame of season 3. A lot of people love season 3 and a lot of people hate it. I still love this show. The beginning of the season was a little shakey, but it still feels like nothing else on TV. However for some reason I do think of Space: Above and Beyond when ever I see the vipers in the opening credits. Which is odd, because I can't remember a thing about that series besides the title and I never thought of it when watching previous seasons. This season seams to have the least in the cockpit with the viper pilots action. They appear to be favoring the Raptors more this season.
