Please don't take this as a personal insult ;)....but ~Shard~, mate, buddy, really, are you insane?! :p ;)

No offence taken whatsoever. Yes. Yes, I am insane. I am an insane bastard.

Yeah, I got a little carried away in my collecting again - this happens more than I care to admit... (It's the same with my BBC Radio One Essential Mixes, I have all of them...) The 4th Doctor Collection was the largest torrent to download, totaling about 57 GB itself, but I got it all eventually. Now how long is it going to take me to watch all of these? I need a "worried" or "unsure" emoticon... a little help?...

My ISP used to only provide 10GB traffic for both downloads and uploads. So in a given month, I can realistically only download 5GB. However, I routinely go past 100GB a month of traffic to the consternation of my provider.

Recently, they upped the limit to 30GB, but that's still not enough. I have to be prudent with my BT downloads. (yeah right LOL) No Doctor Who past episodes for me. Plus I don't think I even have time to watch any of them. Is Regina that boring? :p

Yeah, we have no limits here, so when I was grabbing all these episodes I was doing about 200 GB a month when I combine my downloads and uploads.

Of course not, haven't you read my location - it's fun! ;) Yeah, I don't even know when I'd have time to watch them all, but it's the principle of the thing, dammit! ;)

Seemingly the BBC didn't learn from K9 and Company – they've today announced that Captain Jack is to get his own spin-off! Torchwood, a 13 part series, is scheduled to hit our screens next autumn. Hmm...

I'll resrrve judgement until I see it. I don't know how long it will last though, and can't say I exactly have high hopes for it. ;) But hey, it'll be worth checking out - at least the first episode!

Thanks for the link. :)

News! Toilet Roll Internet spotted a BBC News story that said Roger Lloyd-Pack (better known as "Trigger" from the BBC's Only Fools and Horses) will be playing the main bad guy in the next series.

Also, Mark Gatiss will return as a writer for one episode, and Stephen Fry will write another.

Roger Lloyd-Pack isn't going to be the Master, is he? In a way, I hope not - I don't want them introducing the Master just for the sake of doing it - it has to be done right. Well, I guess we'll see... Looking forward to the new season regardless though! I'm eager to see how Tennant will do in the role though, as part of me has some minor concerns right now...

Edit: Should have read the article first - glad to see he won't be the Master. :)

Some more news – the BBC has today released the first pictures of the redesigned Cybermen that the Tenth Doctor will be battling in the spring...

You can read the full story here.

Any thoughts? It looks a bit clunky on first look, although I do like the new face mask...

EDIT: There's a much larger picture here if you want a better look!

To be honest I'm disappointed with the new look, me I liked the blockhead look and cheap shiny jump suit, this version seems to hark back to the original cybermen with a smallish head, the body's ok'ish though just wish they'd stayed with the large head, but nit picking aside I look forward to the episode/s also great news about the third series being confirmed :), nice one Jaffa Cake.

You da man, Jaffa Cake - you're my source for all the latest Doctor Who news (mostly because I'm apparently too lazy to visit the BBC website on a regular basis myself... ;))

Anyway, I don't mind it too much, but it is different. It seems to have that "new retro" look to me. Kind of like the old ones, but more modern - tough to explain I guess. Well, regardless of what they look like, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them again - in a 2-part episode nonetheless!

Any ideas how soon after the Christmas Special the new season will air?

The Christmas Invasion is only a couple short days away! Looking forward (with slight trepidation) on how Tennant will fare as the tenth Doctor. I honestly haven't seen him in anything else, so I hope he does the role justice.

Interesting that, with the exception of McCoy I guess, the Doctor has arguably gotten younger with each regeneration. Thoughts?

It's gonna bug me for days, but I've seen this pattern somewhere before... The metal section over the stomach... It looks very Deep Space Nine, the whole Cardassian architecture thing... I'll try and find an example, if I work out exactly what I'm talkin about :p

EDIT: I must just add, I'm talking about the Cybermen.... it's quite late and I have a tendency to ramble...

Heh heh - no worries, I thought that's probably what you were referring to. ;)

Yeah, I'm glad to see the Cybermen coming back, but I still don't know what I think of their new outfits. I mentioned it earlier in this thread as well, but I found it interesting that during an earlier interview, Russel T Davies indicated the Cybermen would not be coming back, as "no one found them scary anymore", or words to that effect. I must say, I am looking forward to that 2-part episode regardless however.

And Sarah Jane and K-9 are back as well, so it should be an interesting season!

Well, I watched The Christmas Invasion on Christmas Day, and it wasn't half bad. Tennant made a good start to his tenure as the Doctor – although it was a bit tricky to gauge because...

*spoiler* ...he spent much of the episode in a post-regeneration coma (and a rather natty set of pyjamas!), leaving much of the episode to Rose to do the world-saving.

Based on what we saw of him though, he looks a very promising Doctor. He gave a very assured performance – wide-eyed one moment, darker and almost menacing the next.

The special was pretty popular with the viewing public too, peaking at 9.8 million viewers – second only to EastEnders in the annual TV Christmas ratings battle.

Great to hear about the number of viewers! I downloaded a copy of the show and taped it as well, but haven;t had a chance to watch it yet due to all the holiday festivities going on right now. ;) Once I do though, I'll definitely post my thoughts as well. Good to hear positive things though, and that it wasn't a bomb or anything. ;)

Jaffa Cake said:
A bomb it certainly wasn't – the reaction's been very positive, it seems people only have positives to say about it. Hopefully it all bodes well for series 28 being a cracker!

Yes, I can't wait for Season 28 either! Do you know offhand when the new episodes will start airing?

Oh, and I'll be watching the Christmas Invasion tonight finally - looking forward to it!

Season 28 is due to be aired in the UK this coming March – I wouldn't have thought you'd have to wait more than a week or two to see it in Canada, what with it being part-funded by one of the Canadian broadcasters. ;)

That reminds me – I was lucky enough to get the box set of Season 27 for Christmas – I was a bit put out though that the box is labeled 'The Complete First Series'! :p

Anyway, the Christmas special has a 'coming soon' montage of clips at the end, so that should give you a taster of what you can expect in 2006!

Yeah, that's the way it worked last year - we were a week and a half behind you guys, which was fine. Although I have to admit, I did end up grabbing the last few weeks of the torrent sites first, as I couldn't wait for the whole Bad Wolf finale spectacle! :D

Ahem, yes, I would have thought they would have corrected that. ;) Hmm, actually yes, I would like the complete first season on DVD - especially since Marco Polo and Reign of Terror have both supposedly been lost. ;)

Excellent, looking forward to it! As I said, I'll be firing it up later this evening for my first viewing, perhaps with some popcorn... :)

I actually enjoyed the christmas special more than season 27. Maybe it was because of the wine I'd been sipping all afternoon, but the last season really didn't do it for me that much. Except Billy Piper... :p

Really? That's too bad to hear - I was actually impressed with Season 27, although perhaps part of it was the fact that I was cautious about the return of the series, and whether or not they would do a good job or not - the show exceeded my apprehensive expectations, I guess you could say. ;)

Apart from that though, I felt that the stories were well written, CE did a great job, and the overall atmosphere was great - and I guess these were aspects (at least when it comes to the special effects, sets and dialogue) which were always a bit of a running joke/a bit lacking in the original series. I still love the old episodes of course (I have a copy of every one of them!), but everyone has to admit there was a definite "cheese factor" and corniness many times. ;) I guess the fact that these aspects were improved upon for Season 27 impressed me as well.

And I must admit, I was always a fan of the serial nature of the old series, with the multiple-part episodes and cliffhangers - it gave the show almost more of an "epic" feel, rather than a bunch of self-contained episodes as they did in Season 27 (with the exception of a couple 2-parters). But, I still enjoyed Season 27 regardless, and am looking forward to seeing what Season 28 brings us Whovians.

I tought I might as well get around to posting my thoughts of the Christmas Invasion. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was pleasantly surprised with Tennant's performance - it looks as though he will indeed be a good fit for the role! The previews of the upcoming season look fairly good as well.

*spoiler*

The one thing that I kind of disliked however was at the end, when the Doctor throws the apple at the button and drops the Sycorax leader off the spaceship. Where did that button come from, how did the Doctor know about it, and what purpose does it deserve to open up that part of the edge of the ship? Other than that little plot device, I enjoyed the whole thing, but that little event kind of annoyed me.

And under other circumstances I may have questioned the Doctor's sword fighting ability, but taking into account he must have picked up a thing or two over the thousands of years he's been traveling, along with the fact that I just watched "The Curse of Peladon" recently in which Pertwee simply manhandles the King's champion in a gladiator-like battle to the death, I didn't find anything wrong with that a all. ;) :D

So, once again, looking forward to Season 28!

I also read in my Christmas Radio Times that Tennant topped the swordfighting class at his drama school, winning a prestigious award for his talents, along with a generous £15-worth of prize money! If your leading man's got these talents, you may as well make use of them... ;)

One very, very minor detail I did like – in a couple of the wide shots of London you could spot St Stephens (Big Ben) clad in scaffolding, obviously still being rebuilt from the damage it suffered during the Slytheen's botched invasion... :D

I wonder how many Americans Download Top Gear, A Car show? Its shown on the BBC and appears to also be popular. Once I missed it and missed the repeat so I downloaded it, Is this bad really, I pay for the TV license. When the BBC open up its TV download site I will certainly use that.

I also believe that programs such as the OC etc should be shown in the UK and in other countries a week or so after its shown in America This way not many people would download it, as most people can wait a few days! Companies would not lose as much revenue, Burning to DVD? well if the show is good like the OC and Family guy, I will certainly go and buy the DVD, is nice to have it, to add to my growing collection!
