Well. Sci-Fi Channel announced during tonight's shows (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and of course Battlestar Galactica), that Dr. Who is coming to Sci-Fi starting next month! This is the series with Christopher Eccleston... I would assume it'll be on Friday nights, since the current shows are all coming up on their season finales within the next few weeks.

Sweet!

Glad to hear you guys will finally be getting Doctor Who! As for myself, I'm looking forward to the new season with Tennant which should be starting in the next month or so. Can't wait! Even changed one of my sigs in preparation. ;)

When does season 2 start?

According to the BBC website, it is "Spring 2006", so it's anyone's guess what that means. ;) I haven't checked back there in a while, so I assume they haven't updated it since, but as far as I know, there is no firm date yet. Hopefully it will be sometime in March, but it could be April. Patience is a virtue... ;)

Thanks.

I was hoping it was "any time soon" ( like March ).

The new doctor put on a good effort for the Christmas special - think he could be a very good Doctor.

I quite enjoyed the Xmas Special as well. Of course it's tough to say exactly what DT will be like, since one could argue he was playing The Doctor "in transition" between his regenerations, but I think he should do a good job nonetheless. There were only a couple moments in the Xmas Special which I didn't care for, otherwise it was all good.

One of the things I am most looking forward to this season (apart from the Cybermen) is seeing Sarah Jane and K-9 again. So this will be, what, the 3rd incarnation of the Doctor that Sarah Jane has run into? ;) And it's even better that he keeps getting younger with his regenerations... ;)

Well, she's travelled with/encountered the first 5 Doctors, but never actually met Doctors 6-9.

Yes, true, she did encounter the other earlier ones in "The 5 Doctors", I had forgot about that. :)

Sooooo......

Did any of you over the pond watched the 2 new Doctor Who episodes? Thoughts? (preferable positive thoughts :p )

So far looking around various internet sites, general leaning to positive, though I skipped over anything that looked negative so I've got a rather distorted view. :p

Saw them both last night, very much in the spirit of the original i must say, enjoyed them. The Blond is Hot! That Dr allways has some hot poontang around him doesnt he;) Thumbs up, looking forward to more. Tom Baker was allways my favorite but this beats another reality or cops show by a mile.

I assume you're not referring to new episodes, but rather last year's "new" episodes? :p ;) Also, I assume you're referring to people in the US? Up here in Canada we were only a week behind the BBC last year for Season 27.

Any idea when Season 28 will start airing? I'm hoping sometime in April, however I have not hear anything official yet whatsoever. :(

Yes last years episodes. Anyway it was already great to have the Canadians enjoying the series almost at the same time as us, then again I guess the BBC has good relations with the public channel in Canada, 'gotta look out for each other' was probably a small part of the reason why the deal was made. With the relative success it had in Canada I would be quite hopeful that you guys will get it broadcast at the same time as us.

As for when the BBC will begin broadcasting it, well they're being unusual quiet cus I definitely recall the BBC advertising it a lot earlier last year. Ah well it won't be too long. For updates just subscribe to the RSS for Outpost Gallifrey. :)

Nothing official has been announced yet – just the rumoured date of April 15. However, a couple of news announcements from the BBC...

Firstly, they've announced that The Christmas Invasion is going to be released on DVD, along with the the first episode of the new series. This is due to hit the shops on 1 May – and I'd be surprised if they released it before the episode aired on TV. Full story here.

Secondly, UKTV Gold (a satellite TV Channel that shows classic BBC TV shows) is having a special Doctor Who Weekend on 8-9 April – showing all of the 2005 episodes in one glorious marathon! :D Seems to me that it would be an ideal warm-up to the new series premiering the following weekend here in the UK.

Based on these two news snippets, I'm going to reckon the April 15 rumour is bob on. :)

Great new, thanks Jaffa! Yes, all signs point to April 15 - only 1 more month! Funny the BBC isn't advertising it more...

All the Season 27 episodes back to back, that would be quite the marathon! Looking forward to the Xmas Invasion DVD as well, I'm a sucker for those types of things - at least when it comes to Doctor Who. ;)

And thanks Wai, but I already visit the Outpost quite frequently. Great site. :)

I think I'm right in saying the Canadian network in question (CBC?) contributed quite a bit of cash to help get the new series off the ground, hence they got to air it right after the BBC.

Correct on both counts Jaffa - it is indeed nice having the CBC around! :) My wife also enjoys watching Coronation Street on CBC, however they're a good 8 months behind the BBC in that respect. Doesn't bother me though, as I don't watch the show at all, and it's all new to my wife in any case! ;) :D

Shh. Don't tell her that Richard Hillman gets killed
I like Coronation Street. Thats not to say I watch it. I watch it about once a month. But thats usually when they film it around my neck of the woods. whenever you see something green and no houses, chances are it was filmed near my place.

But yea :) Can't wait for series 2. I can feel it now. We're almost there :) Peter Kay appearing might reignite the countries love affair with him. His popularity seemed to have took some blows since he appeared drunk on that Live8 thing. at least to my circle of mates.
I'll miss Ecclestone and his uber-Salford accent.

I was a little disturbed to hear that Kay would be appearing – it gave me a flashback to Ken Dodd's cameo, and we all know how well that went down... We're assured though that it's a serious part and not a comedy turn, so I'll reserve judgement until I see it!

Yes, I quite liked hearing the Doctor speak in a nice northern accent rather than the Received Pronunciation he's normally afflicted with. :p

Just to follow on from the news links I posted a few days back – still no announcement from the Beeb about when the new series will air, but this story about a naughty BBC magazine editor lets it slip that it'll be sometime in April – it states we'll see "a new series on the BBC next month."

I think this is the first thing I've seen from the BBC that actually mentions April – previously they've just said 'Spring' and left it at that. It is very odd that they've not been blanket promoting the new series given the success the last one enjoyed, and the fact that they first showed a trailer for The Christmas Invasion last June! :p

I never really watched Dr. Who that much - although I enjoyed the few old episodes I watched, and I haven't read this thread at all... but what I wanted to say is that the theme song for Dr. Who is the greatest TV theme song ever! It f'in rocks!

that is all.

:D

Interesting, thanks for this. Yes, all signs point to April. Like you though, I wonder why the BBC hasn't been promoting it more. As you say, the Xmas Special was advertised almost half a year before it actually aired! ;)

Can't wait for some Cybermen, K-9 and who knows what else... :D

The SCI-FI channel here in the US started showing the first season last week.Being an old Dr. Who fan it took some getting used to but I like it..

Nothing can replace Tom Baker though!!

It's nice to know yesterday that 7:00 pm Saturday 15th April 2006 is the start of series 2! Yayness!!!! :D Mind you I'm well jealous of those journalists who got an exclusive showing of the new episode yesterday.

I heard Canada will be getting later this year cus like last year Doctor Who filled the gap left by the cancelled hockey thingy.

saw something i thought i'd post in passing...

hello all.. i just thought i'd share something i caught a glimpse of a couple of weeks ago..
i was at Ealing Studios in London for an overnight recording session, and i took a little detour to look around the place i came across a door which said 'props' room painted above it.. i dont know if this is relevant for anything but it looked pretty freshly painted and i thought u all might appreciate it..
enjoy ;)

Yes, nice to hear about the start of Season 28. :D

That would make sense, although it doesn't really matter to me since I'll just be grabbing them off the torrents the day after the BBC broadcast anyway. ;)

If I was walking around in a deserted room and saw a Dalek it would scare the **** out of me, even though it's just a prop....or is it?:p
