Are you implying that the Face of Boh is the Doctor's father just as Vader is Luke's father and being evil as Vader is this therefore means that the Face of Boh is actually evil and is therefore the Master who escaped the Time War by stealing the original Face of Boh's face and that the Master is the Doctor's father?

:D
No, no, no... The Doctor and the Master are in fact twins. They were separated at birth to protect them from their father, the evil Face of Boe. Their mother is in fact Sarah Jane Smith – now you know why she's appearing in this series...

Well that makes sense. I feel like an idiot now for not seeing that. And K-9 must therefore in actuality be Rassilon in robotic dog form. I'm getting this now...

Well, I quite enjoyed tonight's little adventure. Quite a dark little tale, and it looks like The Mill are back on track with their CGI work after a few disappointing moments in last week's episode.

One interesting thing...

Spoiler!
...it was revealed that Torchwood was set up by Queen Victoria herself to protect Britain from otherworldly threats, specifically with the Doctor himself in mind. Could this maybe mean that when Torchwood is fully revealed it will be as an adversary, not an ally?

There was also a comment from the werewolf to Rose that "he could see the wolf in her" and that she "burned like the sun." It's obviously a reference to The Parting of the Ways and all the Bad Wolf shenanigans, but does it also mean that there's some of the TARDIS energy-type-stuff still in her?

Our three-year old nephew is a big Who fan, but he's having episodes taped and then vetted by his mother to see if they're suitable for someone of his tender years. I'm guessing he won't be seeing Tooth and Claw for a while yet... :p

Thanks for white-texting the spoiler Jaffa Cake. :) Once my torrent is done I will highlight it and comment on my thoughts regarding the episode as well... ;)

Today's episode I LOVED! :D I found it brilliant, fantastic, bloody scarying! If only I was 8 instead of 18 I would be hiding behind my sofa cus that was a thrilling ride and I can gladly say the Outpost Community loved it too, RTD has now got 3 5/5s for his stories. Things are really looking up for series 2, it's going to be legendary!

Well, another enjoyable episode last night. Once again, I'll put my thoughts in white text to avoid spoiling anyone who has yet to see it...

First up, the badguys. The Krillanites were effective villains – their gimmick of taking the traits of the races they conquer and combining it into their own DNA is an original (and downright nasty) one, as was the idea of them using children's souls as a giant codebreaker.

Of course, the main focus of the episode was the return of Sarah Jane and K9. It's interesting that the last series was really the first to focus on the family and friends of a companion, and how their 'disappearance' affected them – last night we got to see how a companion is affected by being 'abandoned' by the Doctor. Rose's initial jealousy of Sarah Jane (which at first grated as being a tad predictable) was soon revealed to be more a fear of being treated in the same way – dropped off somewhere to return back to her humdrum life, apparently forgotten about...

One continuity point... both Sarah Jane and the Doctor's comments in this episode both seem to imply that the events in The Five Doctors never happened. Maybe the Time Lords erased her memory?

Thanks once again for hiding your comments for the time being Jaffa Cake. ;) I must admit I have been lax in my Timelord duties. With work and a few other things, I have not had a chance to watch the past couple weeks' episodes! I will be watching "Tooth and Claw" right now though, and I already have "School Reunion" d/led (including the audio commentary and Confidential), so hopefully I'll be nice and caught up in the next few days. Then I can get back in the loop and start discussing these great episodes!

The episodes seem to get better and better... though I thought the last series was quite bad. So there was some way to go!!

What was the events of "The Five Doctors" ? I'm not a long-term fan! (wasn't born being my largest excuse !! (child of '86))

I have a new theory after watching last night. Comments in white á la Jaffa Cake.

The secret the Face of Bo knows is the answer to the theorem that controls space, time and the Universe. The Face has actually been the custodian of all reality for billions of years, and will attempt to pass the secret to The Doctor at the end of the series when close to death. The Doctor will discover that The Face had the ability to save the Time Lords, but needed a successor as keeper of the theorem like himself, the last of his race. The Doctor will then realise quickly that The Face created The Daleks solely for this purpose. At the end of the episode, The Doctor will refuse the knowledge, feeling it gives him too much power and knowing that the temptation to manipulate as The Face has done will be too much. He will allow the answer to the theorem to die with the Face, leaving the Universe without a controller.

What do you think? Feasible?

I have to admit I'm quite liking David Tennants "Dr" he certainly makes up for his countryman Sylvester McCoy ( who I think was totally miscast ) and I've kind of forgotten Chris Ecclestone ( second best to Tom Baker ) for now and as for Sarah Jane she still stirred a little emotion for me, as for K9 the feeling was just the same ( )

Aaaah! I've just watched the latest episode and fallen head over heels in love with Sarah Jane again! I think I'll retire to quiet corner and sulk now.

Sarah Jane was always my favorite companion from the first 26 years of Doctor Who, and her return was most welcome. Her story was handled in a very interesting and touching way. I thought this episode was fantastic, and in many wyas highlighted the difference between old and new Who. Never, untill this last couple of years, have we seen the emotional, personal side of the Doctor and his companions. The idea of coming back to an old companion, and seeing her trying to cope with being abandoned by the Doctor is fantastic, and the Doctor's reasoning for abandoning them in the first place is thought provoking, and humanizing.

Was I the only one who got a tad choked up during Tennant and Sladen's last scene in front of the Tardis? I hope not!

All and all, a great episode in what is shaping up to be a spectacular season!

The episode has a Wikipedia page that'll bring you up to speed. It features possibly the most inept squad of Cybermen you're ever going to meet... :D

I like the new design... even spookier.

I have to disagree, they've lost a certain something (maybe they're too much robot and not enough human like, they don't look as angry looking as before) but they seem to me to have very small heads which makes me feel on appearance they look a bit stupid which Cybermen aren't, well until you produce any gold that is. I will always like the tin (aluminum) foil look with big heads and metal headphones :D

The new Cybermen look a little sad in some of the publicity pictures I've seen – I think it's the little cut-outs at the corner of the eyes that does it. I quite like the new look, although it's tricky to tell from still photos. How they look when they move and how they're filmed/lit will determine if the new design really works. The new look reminds me a little of the Cybermen that the were designed for one of the animated online adventures that was produced a couple of years ago...

And hopefully they'll be a little more organised than their Five Doctors brethren, who gave the impression of being cyborg versions of the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard... :D

While we're on the subject, the Beeb have put up a little photofeature about the Cybermen. There are pics from the new series and from yesteryear – so whatever your cybertastes, they're covered. :)

Nice one, thanks for the link! I'll be checking that out right now... ;)

The Girl in the Fireplace was another great episode - loved it.

Spoiler:
The clockwork robots, at the beginning, were really creepy - before you know it their presence is marked by the sound "tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock..." growing faster and faster and getting louder which freaked me out!

I thought it was a decent, solid episode – not the best I've seen, but entertaining none the less.

Slightly Spoilerish:
I'd read beforehand that the episode was on a creepiness level of The Empty Child, one of my favourite episodes of the last series (the quote I read was something along the lines of this episode would make a ticking clock as scary as the phrase "Are you my mummy?" was last time around). I was expecting something a little more along the lines of The Empty Child and I didn't think The Girl In The Fireplace was as good a story personally. Like I say though, it still kept me entertained so I'm not complaining too much!

And then there's the trailer for next week's episode – that all looks very interesting... :D

Damn, I have some catching up to do yet again! Downloading tonight's episode as we speak, and planning on watching last week's episode tomorrow. Then I can finally read all this hidden text and get back to participating in these discussions! ;)

And another slightly spoilerish post from me

The ongoing theme of this series is building as the loneliness of The Doctor. I'm now wondering if the Face of Boh's secret is that the Time Lords are still alive, but trapped somewhere outside of time. Do you remember the arc about The Key of Time back when the Doctor's companion was Romana? It went on for a full series, but encompassed lots of different adventures along the way. Wouldn't it be great if the next series did something similar?

I liked last night's episode, and Mickey being in the full episode works well. It means Rose has someone to interact with whilst The Doctor does his thing, which gives the show the opportunity to have two linked stories per episode.

Ooo, get us with all this white text... :D

Yep, they're definitely playing up the loneliness aspect over the past few episodes. I suspect that they're really building this up to either make the potential return of the Time Lords more dramatic and emotional for viewers (especially newer ones), or they're going to place the Doctor in a situation (possibly as an end of series cliffhanger) where he has an opportunity to bring his people back, but only at a great and terrible cost.

There's also been reference of the Doctor being something more than 'just another Time Lord'. I think he was compared to a God in the opening episode and he didn't even bat an eyelid. I do know that before the 'classic series' was axed the intention was to explore the Doctor's origins deeper, and show that he was indeed a more powerful and important figure than just another rebellious Time Lord pottering about in a slightly wonky TARDIS. Maybe some of these ideas will be used in the new series?
