This thread is very interesting! I mean that the Lost thread is basically spoiler-ridden for the UK people, yet it's not blanked out. Whereas here us brits are polite enough to white out the text for non-brit torrent users! Magic! anyways. summary of last nights episode; wow.

As for next week; Trigger! haha. I saw him in Manchester once. looking very lonely.
I'm really loving this whole new series. It seems to make the first new series pale in comparison. And the music! Gotta love the BBC Wales Orchestra people. and just BBC Wales in general.

Mickey's T-Shirt! "Know your roots"!!!! soon as I saw that I knew it was going to be a good episode. :D

I've no white bits to add. No spoilers here. Just admiration for a killer TV show. Best thing I've seen in a very, very long time.

Thankfully I was watching it on my EyeTV. I had to watch it again just to be sure! Sure as hell didn't sound like Trigger. Or better still; Owen Newitt :D

I'm enjoying this season a lot more than the last - all down to Tennants ability to make the Doctor more accessible IMO.
And yes Sophia Myles is looooooooooooooooovely:D
Struggled to remember where I'd seen her before, then I remembered with a twinge of shame: the carp Thunderbirds movie as Lady Penelope. Forshame...
Bring on the cybermen!

Best one I've seen in the series so far, good B movie esque melodrama and they avoided too much awful CGI (although there was one truelly cringeworthy bit). Glad to see that this resurrection of a classic character utilised them far better than that awful dalek episode in the last season.

Will definitely want to see how they get out of this one.

Gah! Missed last night's episode due to family barbeque-type commitments. Fret not though, I've got it taped to watch later and the precious video tape will come into my possession later this afternoon.

I'm looking forward to this one... :)

Well, I've had a chance to watch the episode now and it was well worth the wait. The only thing that jarred a little was Roger Lloyd-Pack as the villain of the piece – simply because, as mentioned previously, I'm so used to seeing him in sit-coms. I couldn't watch him without thinking of Trigger. I can live with it though, just as long as he doesn't go calling the Doctor 'Dave' in the next episode... :D

Hopefully they'll get out of it with the same kind of ingenuity as in the Empty Child/Doctor Dances cliffhanger. The solution there was completely genius and breathtakingly simple at the same time. ;)

Well, I am proud to say I have finally caught up on my Doctor Who watching! ;)

Some thoughts (in white text of course):

Girl in the Fireplace – really cool story concept, I liked it a lot! I thought it was a rather ingenious premise, and very tragic and cool at the same time.

Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel – awesome 2-parter! I thought they did a good job of bringing back of the Doctor’s arch-enemies, yet did it in a way such that new viewers wouldn’t have felt left out, or as if they were missing a back-story of some sort.

I did enjoy how the Doctor got out of that initial mess at the beginning, however I’m still not sure exactly how that worked, with him harnessing some of the TARDIS’ power that way. Any thoughts? I could see where many people would consider that whole thing a bit of a cop-out...

I also liked, to be blunt, how the Cybermen simply died at the end. I was worried with that whole “emotional inhibitor” being canceled out, etc., that they would turn into some emotional machines, and that just wouldn’t be right – they would lose their edge. It would be reminiscent of the Borg in Star Trek TNG when they became “individuals” – they were far cooler before that happened.

Mickey leaving at the end was actually a bit of a shock – he was starting to come into his own and grow as a character more this year I thought, but, c’est la vie. Back to the Doctor and Rose!

One thing I found interesting was how Mickey’s duplicate was named Ricky. Last season, CE’s Doctor referred to him as “Ricky” quite a few times, insisting that was his “real” name. Intriguing… any thoughts on this? Did the Doctor somehow subconsciously know about Mickey’s destiny?

Anyway, great season so far, I’m really enjoying it! Can’t wait to see what the second half holds for us...

Nice to see you've caught up, and I'll go into white text mode myself... :D

I did think the resolution was a bit of a let down, a bit "Ooo, we're surrounded, ah no, hang on, that's sorted that out." But apart from that grumble, I quite enjoyed it. And next week's episode looks promising – a bit Empty Childish, perhaps?

And word is that the Cybers will be making a return in the end of series cliff hanger. :)

Oh... and poor CyberJackie.

Am I the only one thinking that the next episode sounds just like the last one (or two). Just, here we are in London town and everyone is being transformed into something evil en masse.

:(

I hope I'm surprised. Every episode reveals more than just that episodes storyline. Learning about Micky, Doctors past again...

Am I also the only one who thinks that it was actually Micky who died? Just something I picked up.

Anyways! now Shard is up to date we can stop talking in white. w00ts. I'm starting... now.
or now.

Just one more time, for old times sake... :p

It can't have been Ricky who survived, as there were various things he said at the end of the episode that only Mickey could have known – for example, telling Jake to watch as the TARDIS dematerialised (Ricky wouldn't have known what was going to happen), and the comment that "I once saved the world in a big yellow truck", a reference to Parting of the Ways. Unless Ricky and Mickey had the chance to have some very indepth discussions as they were fleeing the Cybermen, it was Ricky that got 'deleted'.

Anyone see the preview for the Idiot's Lantern, it seems quite sinister...

"Are you sitting comfortably? Good. Then let's begin"

spoiler - Then the TV starts to fry the unwitting viewer's brains out!

Yeah, I guess we can ditch the white text for now. If someone reads a spoiler, too bad! :p ;) D

Yeah, I agree, other than that the whole 2-parter worked well for me.

Oooh, really? I hadn’t heard that one! Hmm, wonder how they could come back though, since that incarnation of them existed in a parallel world which the TARDIS can’t get back to anymore...

Yeah, I must admit the preview didn’t do much for me. I’ll hold my judgment until I actually watch the episode, as hopefully it will impress me as much as these past ones.

Exactly. I also like how “Torchwood” made an appearance in this one again as well, as Rose was listening to the news report on her cell phone. Is there going to be something more to that, other than the obvious stuff we already know about Captain Jack having his own show with that name, etc.?

An intriguing twist! That would be cool (and would explain why he wanted to stay), but I have to agree with Jaffa Cake - Ricky would have to be a very good actor to pull that off. Plus, Ricky would never really have appreciated the fact that his grandmother was still alive (since she always was!) and that was apparently one of Mickey’s reasons for staying. Plus, I’m not sure if Rickey would have been as adept at hacking as Mickey was... Cool theory though.... :)

Any thoughts on my comment above, regarding how the Doctor referred to Mickey as Ricky last season, insisting that was his real name? I found that quite interesting...

Anyway, good to be back up to date! Let’s hope I don’t fall behind again... ;)

That's right, the TARDIS can't get back to that parallel... but that doesn't say there might not be some way they can make it to ours. ;)

Russell T Davies apparently said the the Radio Times that the end of the series sees the Cybermen invading 'contemporary Earth*'. Of course, he might just be playing with us, but we'll see...

*'Contemporary Earth' no doubt refers to modern-day London, so you're in for a treat, raggedjimmi. ;)

Ah, I suppose it was Ricky who died then. See I was thinking it was Ricky who dropped his "attitude" just as Micky gained his extra confidence before Ricky's death. A sort of character swop (a la Doctor and Dalek in the last series). Ricky thought he would make everyone happy by staying back. Rose and The Doc still think Micky is alive and well so they're okay with it and Ricky can carry on his plan of saving the world.

I think this dimension hole thingy will have further impact. Whats to say the alternative Doc didn't end up falling through too? Maybe that's how the Master returns? In this alternative reality it could have been the Master who survived and the Doc who died. Enter the Docs new long running enemy.

Also, didn't the last Doctor call Micky as Ricky?

Just bring back Bruno Langley (however you spell it) as some kind of overlord and I'll be very happy :D

Have any of you seen this site Cybus Corporation check out the countdown clock, very interesting (does this tie in with the end of series).

Interesting, I hadn’t heard that. So is this going to be a recurring theme then each season? We meet a major villain mid-way through the season, then they reappear at the end? Happened last season with the Daleks, and now it might happen again this year with the Cybies?

On a sidenote; I love when shots like Doctor Who and Lost build up a collection of alternate media to backup the shows. But in a very good, cryptic way.

oh, but that site is a fanpage. apparently...

Ooooh, very cool! So is this going to be like the Bad Wolf website last year? Hmm, this could lead to some very interesting possibilities...

I suppose I could Google it (maybe I will) but does anyone here know anything more about Mondas, the Cybermen's home planet? Is there any chance that could have been Mondas that they were visiting, even though it was supposedly in an alternate dimension? Hmm, my wheels are turning now! :D

Edit: Ah, thanks for the explanation regarding it being a fansite, raggedjimmi - I didn't look through the site in detail yet, so I guess this time I am the one guilty of skimming... ;)

Like raggedjimmi says it's a fan site not official, just thought that maybe the countdown clock substantiated the hint of the return of the Cybermen ;)

I wonder what happened to the gold dust killing method? Worked wonders in the old days. An emotion inhibitor chip and "oh what have I become" is so RTD. not that that's a bad thing. but its sooo RTD.

A dalek who became emotional and killed itself too. Someone pass me the tissues before I self detonate from feelings.

Yeah I was wondering the same about the gold but they didn't have any breathing apparatus like previous models, I think they (RTD) where just going for the coincidence angle (parallel world, Rose' father being alive etc) so that new watchers (and old) could watch without too many questions, one thing that struck me was the similarities between this story and the episodes of Genesis of the Daleks, you know between Davros/Lumic.

I've got a memory of the Doctor previously using emotions to defeat the Cybermen... but I can't for the life of me remember the story, or if I dreamt it up or not. Anyone here know what I'm talking about?

I remember seeing on one of the tie-in Cybersites that the Cybus Corporation's first prototypes suffered from an allergy to gold, but this problem had been solved on the production models. I can't recall if it was a fansite or an 'official' BBC site I saw it on, but it's a nice comment. :D

Also, did anyone notice that the Doctor called Mickey Ricky in the last series? I can't believe no one here picked up on that...

(Don't worry ~Shard~, just teasing – I think that the Mickey/Ricky name thing was just a little in-joke for alert viewers). ;)
