I envy anyone who can watch that episode fresh. It's very good! but we all keep saying that... :) just sit back, have half a bar of Tesco Chocolate with biscuit, a bottle of J20, sound up nice and loud. enjoy.

All that sugar would probably give me a nasty turn. But I'm planning on picking up a bottle or two of my favourite beer on the way home to enjoy with the episode.

I'm a man of simple pleasures. :D

Nothing wrong with that! Looking forward to heraring your thoughts on it - feel free to coment on some of my above comments as well when you get around to writing your review of the episode. ;) :D

Bloody hell. That was fantastic. I had to stump up to renew my TV Licence yesterday, but I'm feeling a bit better about handing over my cash after seeing that. I'll go to white text just on the off chance there's someone reading this who's even more behind on their viewing than me...

Firstly, I'm especially pleased to see that we've got tentacle-faced monsters quoting chapter and verse about Satan in what is generally viewed as a children's programme, at Saturday teatime. Well done the BBC! :D

Nice also to see that the Doctor and Rose have been placed in what is apparently a genuinely inescapable situation. The loss of the TARDIS means that they don't have the option of doing a runner, and their sense of panic as they realised it had gone was a nice counterbalance to the cockiness we saw from the pair at the start of the episode (well, after they realised the Ood weren't after eating them, that is). As I've mentioned before, seeing the overconfident Doctor take a fall is something I think we'll be seeing a lot more of as the season progresses, and I think it worked very well here.

Anyway, it was a gripping, dark and claustrophobic episode and I hope they can maintain the quality over the second half. For what it's worth, the sneaky peak of next week's episode seems to suggest lots of Aliensesque monster-fleeing through darkened tunnels and cramped air ducts, which can't be a bad thing in my opinion.

So... let's see what comes out of that big scary pit!

I'd like it to be...

The Master, or something. If the text is old then surely Mr. Master could have gone back and started then? Although even I severely doubt it, our old friend has to come back at some point. After Dalek me and the old girlfriend were talking about time travel and that, which pretty much means an enemy never truly dies.

I'm not expecting a giant red horned beast to come out from the pit. Would be a little too obvious. I think the beast is already out, and in that guy who used to be in Casualty.

The planets moving now, why would that be?

The original 4 words have stopped cropping up, leading me to think the "you are not alone" thing was just to throw us off.

the "impossibly old" bit made me think of the Face of Bo. I know he isn't "impossibly old" but it was the only other time they've mentioned something as being old.

"I love you humans!"

Still, both the Devil and the Master sport stylish goatees, so who knows? :p

This devil chap looks to be quite a big lad. Perhaps the Master accidently reversed the polarity of his Tissue Compression Eliminator. ;)

:D

Following on from a point brought up earlier, one thing to note about this upcoming Saturday's episode is that it's completely unaffected by the World Cup coverage, so it's starting at the usual time of 7pm. :) Given the Doctor's current TARDIS issues, I suppose it's quite appropriate that he's not going to be moving to a different time this week...

Glad you liked the episode Jaffa Cake, I thought you would. :)

Now, onto the beloved white text... :D

Completely agree with you. Don’t get me wrong, I have been enjoying Tennant’s portrayal of the Doctor, however, yes, he has been quite cocky this season, sometimes a little to much if you ask me – some of his and Rose’s shenanigans have been a tad over the top at times. So, yes, it is nice to see him get brought down to earth in a set of circumstances such as these.

I thought the same thing, and, being a huge fan of Aliens, this excited me even more for this week’s episode! :D

As cool as that would be, I don’t think that would really fit with this episode. I think The Master belongs in a different story, and isn’t really “required” here, since the whole antichrist character works quite well. Of course, the Master was involved in a similar storyline (The Daemons) once before, but I just don’t think the time is right to bring him back yet. I agree, I’m sure he’ll surface eventually, just as the Daleks and Cybermen have, but it has to be the right story at the right time, and not done just for the sake of ringing him back. :)

I’m eager to see what the Face of Boh has to convey to the Doctor when they meet again, and what those 4 words are.

And since I haven’t been playing attention that closely, can someone summarize for me all the instances of “you are not alone” cropping up, as you mentioned raggedjimmi? Furthermore, I haven’t caught any “Torchwood” references in the last few episodes. Any thoughts/comments on this as well?

Lastly, thanks for that picture Brize, it’s a good way to whet the appetite for Saturday!

No mention of Torchwood too, you're right. I dunno, I think after the whole first series of the New Who RTD knows we're looking for the next running story. He's just throwing us bones and laughing. Funny thing is we'll kick ourselves for not noticing when it is announced.

On a little trip to Manchester the other day, just after buying a Ukulele :D , me and the old girlfriend walked past a cafe called Burntwood, or bruntwood. either way. it was funny! right next to the BBC's Manchester HQ. If anyone knows it.

Cool, thanks, glad I wasn't completely missing something. :)

Okay, enough with the white text! :D

Here are some topics for discussion – so, please, discuss! :D ;)

Further to the whole “Torchwood” thing briefly discussed above - to me it seems like “Torchwood” is this season’s “Bad Wolf” (or maybe not, as raggedjimmi pointed out.) But regardless there isn’t really a mystery to Torchwood, is there? We know Captain Jack will be involved in the show, we know roughly what it is about and what the institution’s purpose is, so am I missing something? Or is there going to be some plot twist, or juicy details to the whole thing which will be revealed at the end of the season perhaps?

Furthermore, with the whole Bad Wolf thing, in my mind this never really got resolved. Okay, it was a message Rose scattered throughout time for herself, but what does it mean??? Why those words? Are we ever going to get closure on this? Or, did we, and I just missed it? ;)

Also, in Tooth and Claw, the werewolf seems to reference the whole Bad Wolf thing in a way when he looks at Rose. Thoughts?

And in general, does anyone have any thoughts as to the interesting circumstances surrounding the TARDIS and its travels this season so far? To cite a few examples:
- the TARDIS somehow falling through time into an alternate universe
- the TARDIS “dying” (almost) with only one power source left as a result
- the TARDIS sounding like it’s sick at the beginning of The Impossible Planet?

I realize the TARDIS has always been finnicky over the years (what better example than that blasted chameleon circuit! :D ) but I wonder if these events are just par for the course this season, or if there’s something else to it. The impending return of the Cybermen in the 2-part finale from a parallel universe which was supposedly sealed makes me wonder if the TARDIS’s adventure there wasn’t just a one-in-a-million fluke...

Lastly, any predictions on what the title of the second last episode, Army of Ghosts, might refer to? Is it the Cybermen? They’re not really ghosts... The Timelords would be, however I wouldn’t really refer to them as an “army” per se... hmmm… Perhaps it's like you mentioned before Jaffa Cake - the Doctor will be presented with a chance to save his race, or something to that effect, but at a huge physical and/or ethical cost.

You bring up some good points Shard.

For the BadWolf thing. I have no idea why Rose chose those exact words. seems a little strange really, unless they did explain. I think i was just too excited for that final episode to really take anything in :D

Me and the old girlfriend... no. I'm calling her Caroline from now on. talked about the whole TARDIS thing in this series. It does seem a little more alive, and accident prone. It could just be used as a tool to build up excitement. "oh noes! the TARDIS is lost! how will we ever make it back!", they always make it back. I'd like a bit of TARDIS-less Who for a bit. like he forgot to pay the tax disk or whatever.

Know what I think? (just thought haha)

Torchwood built a TARDIS themselves. only doing so damages space and time, think the Reapers from Fathers Day. The humans tried to make something only it ripped these dimensional holes, which is why the TARDIS fell through and why those Cybermen come back to Earth-Earth (not Ricky's Alt-Earth). Which is why there are no more mentions - Torchwood are trying to seal it all up, sweep it under the carpet. Might explain all the accidents in this series.

I recommend you ALL watch Doctor Hall. It's a very good spoof, with a VERY funny regeneration scene :D
"TARDAS - Time and dimensions above space, only above space mind you"
"thank you"
"as you can see it's considerably smaller on the inside than the outside"

Yeah, good point. Perhaps those new viewers who haven't seen the original series and appreciate the "quirks" of the TARDIS will get a better sense of things via these incidents. But yes, you know damn well they're getting the TARDIS back, so the suspense is a little limited in that respect... ;)

Oooh, I like it! Good theory. I'm not sure if that's the way things will play out, but nonetheless, it is an intriguing thought...

I always thought she chose those words simply because she'd already seen them countless times, in one of those strange time travel chicken and egg style headscratchers that'll hurt your brain if you think about it too much... :p

Anyone remember the "Three Doctors" from many years ago?

If I remember correctly, there was a timelord named Omega who was pulled into an anti-matter universe when he was trapped in a supernova that collapsed into a black hole or neutron star or something. He was driven insane and swore revenge on the Time Lords. He was supposedly killed, but who knows? He could be back.

Yes, except he couldn't leave that antimatter universe, he had withered away into nothingness, and was only holding himself together through his own sheer willpower. That dimension collapsed in on itself and he was trapped. The only way I could see him making a return is if that antimatter universe didn't get destroyed, and if he somehow could bring people back into his domain, since he can't exist in the real world.

Cool thought, but I don't think it will happen, mostly because it would be a bit obscure, especially for the new viewers unfamiliar with the classic series.

wowowowowow that was top.

The big devil thing was amazing. Not really much else to say. But NEXT WEEKS! Peter Kay. hah. I hope he's good, I loved him in Phoenix Nights but anything else has been a disaster to me. Is he... The Master? When the doctor says "Don't I know you?", and with his beard and everything... hmmm. Though they could just be tricking us. wouldn't be the first time! Glad to see they mentioned Torchwood again. beginning to think they forgot about that!

All in all, good episode. The whole prison thing worked so well. and the "before time" thing. I dunno, just made it a very eerie episode.

OMFG, that was a great eps. WOW. Hell the CGI was even pretty good. the preview for the next eps looks great too and yes the do i know you near the end of the preview should be interesting to answer.

I dunno... There was 1 bit of CG that still looked off. When that soldier guy was shooting at the Ood. It just looked like Photoshop flashes. ho hum. everything else was great! I didn't think they could have pulled off the Devil SO well. I mean that colossal beast! wow.

1 question though. what was the actual story behind this ep? I mean... did they answer why the planet didn't get pulled into the black hole? I mean they said something about a gravity field but surely theres more than that? Who put the gravity field there? Why imprison the beast when the ancient people could have just thrown the planet into the black hole? Them details were lost to me.
Why did the Ood just seem to symbolic, they were getting at something. Was it slavery? Rebellion? They had no names and weren't picked up on the radar. Theres some symbolism there I just can't reach it yet.

Again though... the DOOM links;
-the door noises
-the "ancient civilisation" with unreadable text
-the concept of the Satan Pit in general with a giant mean b***ard inside
-takes place away from Earth *grasping at straws
-discovered by humans rather than aliens or the Doctor
-bad guys quoting religious books

Got a little bit worried through that too. turns out my HDD was almost full! had to quickly delete a crap load of Have I Got News For You vids :(
