The villain always gets away to fight another day – it's like a rule or something. ;)

A couple of points... One thing that puzzled me – opening the void sucked in all the Daleks and Cybermen, but there were a number of Cybermen stomping around who weren't from 'Pete's Earth' (Pete's Earth! We should call it that! :D) so you would have thought they wouldn't have been sucked into the void. Mind, this might not be an oversight – it might be a way for the Cybermen to return too, given that a few of them may have survived in our world and gone underground.

The Dalek dialogue – I'll agree with you some of it was a little on the daft side (pest control and all that), but there were some good lines in there (the "You didn't need to kill him"–"Neither did we need him alive" exchange for example). Nice to see some Daleks with a bit of personality. And they had names too, I was disappointed one of them wasn't called Dave though. ;)

And the ending – Catherine Tate? I'm a bit unsure about her making an appearance – granted, she was a 'serious' actress before she went into comedy but it conjures up images of a green Peter Kay threatening to absorb people...

Nearly a genius point about the Cybermen converted on our Earth but they used parts brought through the void presumably.

White: Yeah and Catherine Tate, urgh. RTD might need a slap. The footage of all the Daleks and Cybermen being sucked back into the void was a bit gay (not gay as in homosexual for those unaware of British slang).

In answer to Jaffa Cake's first point:-

The cybersuits would have been made on Pete's world. So they would have been covered in Void Stuff™ even if the brain inside hadn't.

EDIT : Beaten to it by our shiny undead friend ;)

Jaffa Cake said:
True enough, that would explain things. Mind...

Wouldn't the TARDIS be covered in Void stuff too?

Yeah ROFL! ;) . I know that RTD knows that if you make something good enough, little holes (in the plot) get dismissed under the shear goodness of it all. But this is not good enough nor the holes small enough. But 3 times better than Bad Wolf/Parting Of The Ways. And not a game show in sight!

And Jaffa get a grip on your emotions man, you're British! :) Thought the end went on long enough. Long enough for a black thing to return hehe. No really, I loved the end and the music used. Did go one level too far though I suppose.

Oh ****, I'm watching it again and now I'm getting all emotional! Lol

Jaffa Cake said:
What use are emotions if you will not save the woman you love?

Sorry. Emotional inhibitor reactivated and upper-lip stiffened appropriately. ;)
I use logic. :D Oops said too much.. Delete delete delete. My ****ing delete button isn't working. Christ this International Electronics Mac clone is ****!

loved it, loved it. I almost cried!

I was hoping for an "I love you!" "I know." exchange.

Love the Cybermen/Dalek banter, I was so worried they were going to join forces...super fanwank.

Good:
- Black Dalek lives to fight another day!
- Tennant was awesome.
- Nice send off for the Tylers, no more Jackie!

Bad
- Catherine Tate??? Urgh.

ayeaye...

the banter was funny. I cringed a little but I found these 2 super powers bickering quite enjoyable.
I love the way the Doctor described them, not believing his eyes for a moment.
but what I really loved was the links to Impossible Planet. The void ship, the "rumoured" 4 daleks with names. that was all great. RTD really gets the sense of mystery across.
the music when Rose "died" was excellent. and the almost fairy-tale like bit where she wakes up and talks about the dream. that was great too.

BUT what was the running thing in this series? RTD said there would be one in this series, that it would be very well hidden (IIRC). What did the Face of Boe want to tell the Doctor? What where the 4 words? Why did the TARDIS play up so much? What's with the running theme of captures/kidnaps?

I hate Catherine Tate. At least Peter Kay started off funny. That Catherine Tate show she did wasn't funny in the slightest, the Little Britain copying thief.

Running themes? There was Torchwood, although you could say it wasn't that well hidden. Mind, I didn't spot a Torchwood reference in tonight's episode so there you go... :p ;)

A few 'running themes' that we've seen... the Doctor has used the words "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry" a lot this series. Bird names have also cropped up quite a bit too... Mr Finch in School Reunion, Mr Crane in the earlier Cybermen two-parter, Mr Magpie in The Idiot's Lantern – maybe an indication that Torchwood is based in Canary Wharf? There have also been numerous references to the Doctor being God like, and to his loneliness. The recurring theme for the series may be one or all of these, or it might be something so well hidden we won't realise what's going on until the big reveal.

As for the Face of Boe, we've not heard what his four words are although they are rumoured to be "You are not alone."

And don't forget either that 'Bad Wolf' has cropped up quite a few times this series – at least three times off the top of my head. Bad Wolf Bay? Nice. :D

I was really excited aswell (like a kid), expecting it to be as good as the 1st part :D . It was excellent but alas disappointing, like nearly all the 2nd parts are. Some arsey points and notes:
7) The Cyber Yvonne. Oh dear.
9) How are the clamps on brickwork/plaster strong enough to stop the Doc and Rose from being sucked in?
10) Pete catching Rose at the end was the best bit but how? (Do we care?)
And where did the black Dalek go?.. :D

I didn't like the Cyber Yvonne at all seemed way to contrived when she managed to keep some self control when millions of others have not.

The clamps were explained in Army of Ghosts. They utilize some technology to allow a small amount of force to lift massive loads. Presumably they work in reverse as well, providing a strong bond to whatever you attach them to. If the clamps would have given in to the void I would be questioning why the suction didn't disconnect the Doctor and Rose from their arms.

I am never fond of the last minute saves like Pete's. If you're going to put someone in a life or death situation have the courage to kill them if necessary. (Joss Whedon was good at this of course he was also good at resurrecting characters too).

The Black Dalek said "Emergency Temporal shift" so I'm guessing he's off somewhen else.

I thought they'd be "I am Bad Wolf." Just wanted to throw that out there so you can all laugh at me when I'm wrong.

I wont laugh as everyone could be wrong but I reside in the other camp, it's got to happen sooner or later...(I did say in a previous post what the ending might be for Doomsday and was correct, which was only a good guess at best) all this loneliness of the Doctor, which was even more apparent at the finale's end kind of points to him not being lonely anymore or it could have been down to RTD's theatrical background or maybe it's late and I need some zzzz's.

Just watched it - I loved it! Fast-paced throughout the entire episode, and I have to admit, RTD had me hook line and sinker when Rose let go - I thought for that brief second, "Well, maybe she is going to die!" ;)

The Yvonne Cyberman thing was a little far-fetched (how could she retain some of her human control while no others could?) but it didn't bother me too much. I thought the ending was very well-done, and I think RTD did a great job of it.

As for the Dalek/Cyberleader banter at the beginning, I absolutely loved it - but perhaps it's just because I'm a bastard. :D I thought it was great to hear the black Dalek trash-talk the Cybermen. Sure, maybe they're not supposed to have "emotion" in that respect, but it was damn cool!

As for this Catherine Tate thing at the end, I honestly have no idea who she is, (being from Canada and all), so I am rather indifferent about the whole thing. Looks as though she'll just be around for the one episode though, so hopefully it won't be too bad (I'm just going off your guys' negative comments regarding her...)

Well, now it's a long wait until the Christmas Special, but I have my classic Doctor Who's to keep going through (just about to get into the Baker years, as Pertwee is about to run into some arachnids... ;)) to keep me occupied, and as I previously mentioned I have BSG as well, so it's all good.

And I'm sure this thread will die down a bit over the next month or so, but I for one am staying subscribed, and hopefully we can continue to have some great discussions throughout the next several months.

One thing that I thought of last night – did the CyberYvonne have a Cybernised version of her human voice? If so, then excluding CyberLumic that's the first time we've seen that (all others have Nick Briggs voice, of course) and it seems a bit daft. Of course, I could be remembering it completely wrong.

As for an explanation as to why she was able to retain her personality... we know from Army of Ghosts Torchwood employees have a degree of physic training, which may have allowed her to somehow block part of the reprogramming that goes on when an individual is converted. She certainly seemed to be concentrating her mind on the "Queen and Country" and 'Doing my duty" thing as she went into the conversion chamber, almost as if she was trying to programme herself. We know from CyberJackie that Cybermen don't forget who they were after they're converted, so maybe she had a will of steel to match her new body?

All that aside, the simple answer is most likely that RTD probably thought it would be cool and dramatic so he wrote it in anyway. :D

As I mentioned earlier, I didn't mind the Dalek/Cyber banter that much – a couple of lines seemed a little unDaleky but I can live with that, especially as there were some great lines to compensate. I liked the Dads Armeyesque "Identify yourself"-"Don't tell him we're Daleks, Pike!" exchange at the start. :D

Absolutely. Rest assured I'll keep my eyes peeled for any juicy Who news to pass on during the bleak and empty months ahead...

^ Yup thats what I was about to say! The employees have that training so they could likely fight back against the emotion inhibitors or whatever the Cybermen tech used.

Anyone see the link between Yvonne and the final episodes of last series too (though it might have been the ep with the big mole creature in the ceiling *totally forgot everything about this ep* with Simon Pegg), with the whole "I was only doing my job". Wasn't that the excuse used by workers at Auschwitz too? Love a good history reference, if true.

Oh my, what a fantastic farewell for Rose. It had me in tears!

I am a relatively new Doctor Who fan who has only seen series 1 and 2 of the new Doctor Who. Never seen previous Doctor Whos, so I really don't have the same frame of reference like the rest of you do. So that makes me a Doctor Who virgin?

Anyway, I think Doctor Who is just awesome. The whole series play on so many levels. Apart from the science fiction, it's the emotional arc of Rose's love of the Doctor and her family that makes the show so endearing to me. The story arc of her father's death makes some episodes involving him (Pete?) some of my favorite Who episodes... like Father's Day, Rise of the Cybermen, and Doomsday. Truth be told, I watch Doctor Who more for the intimate scenes than for the spectacle. (Also another reason I love all scenes with Rose's mom -- she's a hoot!)

I don't know who Catherine Tate is or who the comedy guy from Love & Monsters was, so my enjoyment of those episodes was not affected by the reputations of the stars playing them. Fortunate, I guess for some one new to the series.

It's not Dr., it's Doctor. I don't know why it annoys me either, but never does the BBC or any official source mention the character or series as "Dr. Who"

mehs.

Now the series has ended, so what is your favourite Doctor Who monster/villain of Series 2?

Mine has to be the creepy clockwork robots, of "The Girl In The Fireplace", with their relentless ticking and permanently grinning clown masks (shudders)!

I'd have to go for the Ood - although The Girl in the Fireplace was my favourite episode.

Black Dalek! Black Dalek! He looked shiney like a black iPod.

My fave eps were Girl in The Fireplace and Impossible Planet/Satan Pit.

Liked the name drop of Skaro in Doomsday, we need a visit in Season 3!

Favourite villains? It was great to see the Cybermen back of course, and the Dalek Supreme. I'd have to go with one of those two, I reckon.

Actually, thinking about it I'd go for anyone other than the Abzorbabloodyov...
