I think Moffat was let down by it being a 1 parter. If it had 2 parts, the creepy, clow clockwork men might have been used better and been more scarier and the jumping between times in France could aswell.

Unfortunetelly Moffat was told by RTD to do a story involving that French bird (lol) and he is fed up of having to do historical research!

Although what he done with it was excellent including the end where we see the ships name. But I think most people would have switched off before then. 2 stars.

Oh I see! Sorry. TGITFP is utter ***** in my opinion. Have you actually seen it? Its just fails on so many levels. The kissing, the unscary clock-work men, the terrible music, the utter cheeseness of it all... The bleeding bit where he comes back drunk from a french party and acts like a tit - that was totally embarrassing for a Whovian.

hehe, of course I've seen it! :D

One thing I love about is that only Doctor Who could pull something like that off, it was wonderful. The visual splendour of Versailles contrasted with the derelict and dark spaceship, Arthur the Horse, Mickey was great, the carriage pulling out at the end, Sophia Myles (think i spelt that right) is amazingly beautiful.
Some great lines too,
"I didn't want to say magic door"
"What monsters have nightmares about?" "me!"
"You're not keeping the horse" "I let you keep Mickey!"

The clock work men looked great, but weren't too threatening especially there little circular saw! I'm not a fan of Murray Gold's work but it wasn't that bad here. The drunken bit was ok, nothing to cringeworthy there's been a lot worse *cough*New Earth*cough*. Maybe if i was a 'whovian' I wouldn't like it, but I just loving watching Doctor Who.

How cheesy was that line...

Oh and I thought New Earth was excellent. Good solid Sci-Fi, good location, no ***** unexplainable things, shame about the quick ending (and the cheesy bit right at the end, know what I mean. Plus would the Doctor risk taking Cassandra to see herself earlier.. er no, far too dangerous).

And yes Cassandra going into the Doctor's body was a little bit cringy but nothing in comparrison to the shitness of the Doctor coming back from the party drunk and acting like what a child would impersonating a drunk.

My run down of New Who...first to worst...

--Fantastic!---
The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways
The Girl In The Fireplace
The Christmas Invasion
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
School Reunion
Tooth & Claw

Fathers Day
Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel
---Average---
The Idiots Lantern
Rose
The End of The World
Boom Town
----Ewww----
Aliens of London/World War III
Love & Monsters
The Long Game
Fear Her

I can tell your opinion is flawed cos you're letting your dick get in the way lol! :D

Yeah, but you've got to admit it's a gorgeous looking episode!

Absolutley, including the clockwork robots which, as the Doctor said, are a beautiful piece of work (or something to that effect). Now stop looking at her tits!

And I have watched it many times to get the dates of their visits to France for my Doctor Who history! Tiring... Which brings me to a pathetic cock up on the part of the writer. When the Doctor meets her for the 1st time she says it is 1727. When he meets her for the 3rd time she says she 1st met him when she was 7. With me so far? OK. Trouble is, Madame de Pompadour was born on the 29th of December 1721 making her 5 or 6 years old, not 7.

What a plum, what a school boy error. How long does it take to work that out with the net?

In my history I have put it down to the older Madame de Pompadour getting confused.

Oh and did you notice that at the beginning it said '3000 years later' after the year 1758 but the Doctor says it is the 51st century (not 4758). Christ. Not that this is what makes it 2 stars in my opinion but it doesn't help sway the arguement for me at all! Rofl.

Them is some harsh marks for season 2! I thought New Earth was an awful episode, but that's one of the great things about this show, something for everyone!
And no love for The Christmas Invasion?

"rude and not ginger?"

I know most fans dislike New Earth. Don't know why, all I've heard from friends is the dislike for the ending. I thought it was solid Sci-Fi, kinda like Star Trek The Next Generation in its structure. But maybe so Sci-Fi that new Who fans don't like it.

I thought TCI was dire but I am downloading it again as I accidentally wiped it on my EyeTV.

All I can remember was a load of one liners David Tennant couldn't pull off (so embarrassing) and the end with the orange. Oh dear, oh dear so cheesey, so bad. And why the hell is there a button there that activates the edge to fall down? Come on that is utter *****! And if I didn't love Doctor Who I would have laughed and laughed cos it was so utterly lame.

Yes, this was my biggest problem with that episode as well. It was just so, well, poor... As you say, why is there a button there to release the edge, how does the Doctor know about it, and he just happens to have perfect aim and force to hit it. Watching that part was actually a little embarrassing for me...

It was beyond embarrassing, it was just, well 1 star. Rubbish TV let alone poor Doctor Who. I just have to distance it as a Whovian.

News just in -

1) Captain Jack will appear in season 3
2) And in the Observer today, a further clue to whats inside the Genesis Ark and more -
Anyway, we left off as the giant sphere was opening in Torchwood to the horror of Rose, Mickey and the slightly sinister scientist who used to be in Eastenders. Meanwhile the Doctor is trapped in a different part of the Canary Wharf triangle with Jackie and the more sinister scientist who also used to be in Eastenders. Oh, and the Cybermen have taken control of some as yet unrevealed, more intelligent alien life form (who or what that alien life form is is anyone's guess. I'd say the King Dalek, the squidgy one that gave me childhood nightmares, but due to the gaps in my Who knowledge I'm not sure if he was wiped out sometime last season back when the Doctor came from outer space via Salford). Other than that we know that it probably won't end well for all our heroes becasue a) Rose kicked off the two-parter with a melancholy line about thinking she would be with the Doctor for ever; b) Russell T Davies has promised Billie Piper a fantastic sendoff; and c) Jackie Rose's mum, has been given a lot of lines about dying for her daughter.

Been confirmed by RTD a little while ago. He'll be in the later shooting blocks as he's filiming Torchwood at the mo.

Great info, thanks guys!

Ice Warriors and Cpatain Jack so far in Season 3 - should be good!

Last we left the Ice Warriors though, weren't they friends and not foes? In the Pertwee episode "The Monster of Paledon" they were not the enemy - and I don't recall seeing them since... (wow, has it been that long?)

Nothing says the Doctor won't go back in time to when they were hostile though...

You're right there – they were among the good guys in The Curse of Peladon, too. It'll be good to see them back though, and see how they fair with more up to date prosthetics/CGI...

Indeed it is!

My current line of thinking regarding Rose is that she does end up getting stuck in alternate Earth, somehow. The teaser trailer from last night (You'll never see your mother again!) would suggest that to me, and thinking about her monologue in last week's pre-credits teaser, both Rose and her surroundings had the slightly washed out grey feel of the parallel Earth.

Yeah, I'm thinking there is less and less chance that she will actually physically die as well. I can definitely see the parallel universe involved in it somehow, but I'm not sure how exactly things would work.

Pete is back, and doesn't have his Jackie anymore, so perhaps Jackie would go back with him, and then Rose would as well so they could be a happy family again (throw in Mickey as well), but then why wouldn't Pete just stay here, as the other Earth is presumably overrun with Cybermen? In that case, Rose goes nowhere...

Pete could stay here, but wouldn't that kind of throw a wrench in time since he's technically dead? Mind you, Mickey stayed in the other universe, and the Doctor probably shouldn't have allowed that either, so nevermind... ;)

So Rose somehow gets trapped in the other universe? Will she be alone, or with someone else? Hmm, so many questions... luckily only 1 more day until we find out...

I wonder how things will compare with when Adric left. In terms of companions leaving in extreme circumstances, Adric and Rose would be at the top of the list - I wonder exactly how "extreme" her exit will be though.... One thing is for sure, RTD will make it uber-emotional. ;)

Thinking about it... let's say, for argument's sake, Pete dies and it's just Rose who ends up in the parallel Earth. She would to all extents and purposes be dead, because in that existence Rose Tyler never existed (well, besides the dog but you know what I mean). She'd have no means of identification, no bank account, no National Insurance details, there'd be no record of her whatsoever because she was never born – she would literally be like a ghost in that reality. Maybe that's why, if that what actually does happen, she refers to herself as 'dead'. Because if you haven't been born, you can't be alive.

At least Mickey could take on the identity of his deceased counterpart, and had his gran and Jake to turn to. Rose has nobody who knows her, no one she can turn to for help. Scary prospect for a young lass. :(

Yes, quite true. I just wonder what the circumstances would be such that her action of (presumably) willingly making that choice (trapping herself in the other universe) would actually "save" her Earth. It's not like that would magically kill the Cybermen, Daleks and whoever else appears in the next episode (personally I'm betting on the Sontarans... :p ;) :D)

Sontarans, eh? Interesting... my money's on the Genesis Ark containing none other than the Kandyman! ;)
