Dr. Constantine: “Before this war started, I was a father and a grandfather. Now I’m neither… I’m just a doctor.”

Well, at least it looks like the Cartmel Masterplan has been sunk. A good thing, in my opinion. Hopefully all that "half-human" stuff from the TV Movie went down with it.

err... we were on post 933 just now? Where are the posts going? If a mod is removing them, can they at least tell us?

Mods are not required to explain their actions unless they choose to. If a clean-up is required, they will usually conduct one and leave it at that. Catching up on the past few pages myself I have come across many OT posts (regarding post counts/avatars/removing of posts for instance), consecutive posts, etc. which the Mods have no doubt removed and/or cleaned up according to Forum rules.

I wouldn't worry about it - just standard maintenance, as with any thread.

As least they've kept the photo of the Romanas on there.

*phew* :D

Some of the regulars to this thread may want to post in some of the other Mac-related threads on this site. We all know what happens when only a few posters participate only in one thread.

I don't want to see a repeat of the "november" incident here on MR. ;)

Being unable to control his appearance when regenerating, losing his memory temporarily and having spent a long time with humans could explain why he 'appeared' human to the master.

How do you mean? What happened?

If that's true, that's utter ********.

All I meant was that if someone is posting off-topic/useless posts or multiple short posts in a row (i.e. clear violation of Forum rules/etiquette) the Mods will clean it up, and that's that. They don't need to tell everyone every time they do this, that would be silly! ;) Can you imagine how many 1-word posts, OT comments or "LOL!!1!1!!" posts they remove on an hourly basis? It's enough work for them to do their job, let alone having to explain every one of their actions.

Now, enough of this off-topic chat - let's get back onto the great subject of Doctor Who! :D

And on that note, has there been any news and/or rumors regarding the Christmas Special yet? "The Runaway Bride", hmm... I can't say I was a fan of "The Christmas Invasion" last year (just too cheesy too often), and I'm not sure if this one will be any better with a title like that. Should be interesting if nothing else I guess... And reading some of the previous comments regarding that actress, is this something I should be concerned about? ;)

Lastly, any thoughts as to whether or not the Doctor's new companion will actually make an appearance in the Christmas episode, or will they just leave that for the beginning of Season 29, as not to screw up any viewers who would have missed the Christmas episode? I'm thinking they will leave this episode as a "stand-alone" one, and just introduce the new companion at the beginning of the "proper" season.

I think this years Xmas special with be terrible. But that's just based on the appearance of Catherine 'does comedy for chavs' Tate. So you never know.

Also I think they could leave the appearance of the new companion until series 3, so that new viewers will get to start (partly) afresh as it were.

Martha will not be appearing in the Christmas special. That has been confirmed by RTD.
There have been rumours of a Christmas Carol type sorry, with the Doctor visiting Donna's past, present and future. There's also been rumours that it will be shown in three parts, either over Christmas Day or over the holiday. I know they where filiming at a Church today. Some reports say Tennant is not there as he's having some days off, but will be back soon as he is the groom!!!

Interesting, good to know. Ah well, I'm sure with the Special still 5 months away (or whatever is it ;)) we'll be hearing all sorts of rumors, news updates and the like until then. :) Throw in there some Season 3 rumors as well. The Face of Boh, Ice Warriors, who knows...

Hey, maybe Catherine Tate is Susan's Granny?

Personally, I really enjoyed the Christmas Invasion. Cheesy? Certainly. But that's OK given the largely inebriated condition of its target audience. And the scene where Tennant picks his way through all the old Doctor costumes to find his new one, that was really cool.

Confirmed by RTD/Production Team/BBC for season 3:

- Cpt Jack will be back some point
- An episode with Shakespeare
- Phil Collinson: “No traditional enemies will be in season 3”
- Writers - Russell T Davies, Helen Raynor, Gareth Roberts, Paul Cornell x2, Stephen Moffat x2 (Stephen Fry's episode has been pulled)
- The Face of Boe and New Earth will both appear and Boe will impart his four words to the Doctor

Mostly crazy rumours mostly started by the tabloids:

- Both Graeme Harper and James Strong are signed up to helm a block each for season three.
- Rose will be back in Christmas Special
- Sarah Jane Smith will be back in Christmas Special
- Ice Warriors for season 3
- Christmas special will be shown in 3 parts.
- Season 4 has been commissioned with Tennant.

Great sum up. I might have to employ you for my web-site lol. :D Pay wont be too high though... Although with the UK/US exchange rate at the mo I'd be better to 'employ' americans. :)

She would still exist.. I think.

The Time War is not explained. We do not know how much time travel was used in it or rather whether it was just a shoot out. And don't read into any novels cos they ain't canon.

Also if you travel faster than light (as the TARDIS does many, many times over), the effect from the cause would take a hell of a long time to catch up with you (the effect travels at the speed of light).

Did that make sense? Lol :p

The Doctor has said pretty conclusively that he is the "last of the Time Lords" and that if they (or any) were alive he'd know "up here" (and taps the side of his head). Now, if Susan were still alive, and given that the two of them have displayed a telepathic connection previously, AND given that she is his granddaughter, it isn't too hard to believe that their connection would be the strongest of all, and that he'd at least know if she was still alive.

And when is it stated that the TARDIS travels faster than light? That's conventional time travel theory. The TARDIS accesses the universe through the time vortex - totally unconnected to the speed of light.

Oh, and Tom Baker certainly isn't the best Doctor of all - it's just that it's become conventional wisdom because the media has said that for so long, and people believe it. Your opinion, and mileage, may vary.

And Russell T Davies conclusively stated, in an interview that appears on www.quickstopentertainment.com, that he'd like to see the Ice Warriors return. It's the same interview where he states his dislike for the Master.

Metal Zombie - it really sounds like you don't enjoy Doctor Who is it is now, compared to the "good old days". If you really don't like, why watch it?

So who is the best Doctor, it certainly can't be Sylvester McCoy :D

You know, I don't think there's actually such a thing as a "best" Doctor, because, outside the basic core elements of the character, each Doctor is a unique individual created by the unique actor, and a person's "best" Doctor is really only opinion.

Personally, I really like Peter Davison - was a fan on his debut, and remain so 25 years later. Sylvestor McCoy has his fans as the Doctor - I'm not one of them - but for some people, what he does appeals to them as the Doctor. Tom Baker held the part for a VERY significant period of time, and probably benefitted more from the iconic elements of his costume - ask your average person about Doctor Who, and chances are they'll remember the scarf - and possibly the jelly babies (but who remembers it was Troughton who first introduced them?). Does this make him the "best" Doctor? I'd say not, but probably the most iconic, the most widely seen and remembered, and hence, "best".

You'd have a pretty hard time saying that he wasn't the favourite Doctor, however!

And let's face it, the Master was getting pretty naff. They even thought so back in the 1970's and were preparing to get rid of the character before Roger Delgado's sad demise.

Yeah, if only they could have finished off that story arc properly with "The Final Game" as they had intended... instead, Pertwee just ran into some big arachnids for his finale... :(

I must say though, I loved Delgado's character - I thought he played him brilliantly and I thoroughly enjoyed the Master back in those days.

I agree. It's a shame Anthony Ainley wasn't allowed to put his own spin on the character - after all, he's quite excellent as Tremas in "The Keeper of Traken" - but John Nathan-Turner wanted a more "moustache twirler" interpretation.

And to put Roger Delgardo's death into a similar context during the show, and the impact - just look at John Spencer's recent death during the last series of The West Wing.

I was merely asking in a non confrontational way to Dazzle that if Tom Baker wasn't the best Doctor then who was, simple, just wanted to hear another opinion that's all.
