As for the upcoming trailer bit (in white!) - ...

Yeah, that's the good stuff. Then again, it doesn't take much to please me.

I didn't mind it for what it was. If nothing else it reminded me how much better it is than Torchwood, which I've been stuck watching the past few months. ;)

Of course, occasionally a show like Torchwood does remind me that I've still got standards, even when it comes to Doctor Who related stuff. ;)

Not to stray too off-topic but yeah, I honestly feel embarrassed sometimes when I'm watching Torchwood. ;) A couple of the episodes have been
quite good actually, with somewhat cool premises, but for the most part the acting is bad, the dialogue is bad, the editing is bad and the plots are bad. I'll be surprised if its back for a second season. It's like they're trying too hard and everything just ends up being too predictable and/or artificial.

Don't get me wrong, I still watch it, but sometimes I do wonder why.... ;) :D

Torchwood has left me seriously underwhelmed, I'm afraid. It had a fair bit of potential but so far has spectacularly failed to live up to it.

As for the Christmas special – it wasn't bad for a bit of escapist Christmas Day telly. Catherine Tate was better than I dared to expect, and although I doubt it'll go down as classic Who it was an enjoyable enough romp. Nice to see too that Gallifrey finally got a mention.

Time for me to dust down the old spoilertext™, I think... :)

It appears that the Bad Wolf/Torchwood for the next series is going to be either 'Saxon' or 'Mr Saxon'. There was a reference or two in the last series, and in the Christmas special the soldier in the tank had orders from 'Mr Saxon' – it seems to be that he's someone in a position of authority in the British Government, and possibly a major adversary for the Doctor in 2007. Any thoughts, apart from the fact that it seems to be indicating another Earth-bound adventure? ;)

..if anyone gets it right, they win a nice crisp Ten Pound note. :D

Cool, nice one Jaffa. Do you remember offhand what the references to "Saxon" were last season? Nothing comes to mind...

I am looking forward to Season 3 so let's hope it's a good one! Any rumors or facts surrounding the episodes/plots/characters yet?

I'll use white text in case anyone reading this thread doesn't want to run the risk of being spoilt...

One Saxon reference I remember... one was from the Love And Monsters episode – the Abzorbaloff was reading a newspaper whose headline read something along the lines of 'Saxon leads polls'. One that I've not spotted personally but I've heard mentioned is that in another episode (I can't remember which) there were posters reading 'Vote Saxon' – both of these suggest a clear link to politics. I've not yet watched the boxed set I got for Christmas, but apparently the commentary for Love And Monsters does confirm that 'Saxon' is tied into the 2007 series story arc.

Other stuff... as we saw from the teaser trailer, the Daleks – or at least Dalek Sec from Doomsday – return. The BBC has confirmed this, and that the Doctor will be battling them in 1930s New York. There are whispers of art deco styled Daleks, but no pictures have turned up as of yet.

We also saw from the teaser that the Face of Boe makes an appearance – so maybe he'll finally give his four word message to the Doctor? Given that the Doctor has finally uttered the name of his homeworld for the first time in the new series, could the Face's message relate to (as we discussed earlier in this thread) the fate of Gallifrey and the Timelords?

There have been a few stories featured in the British media over the last six months that hint at what we can supposedly expect in the new series – the return of the Rani and the Ice Warriors, and that it will be revealed that the Doctor has a son. It should be noted though that the show's producers have denied all of these stories.

Oh... and we apparently have Captain Jack back in the final three episodes.

And I'll do likewise in response for what it's worth... :)

I'll have to watch through some of the Season 2 episodes as well then. "Saxon" obviously refers to this person, so there isn't quite as much mystery there, but it will still be interesting to see what role he has to play and why he ends up being such an important figure.

Cool about the Daleks and the 1930s. I wonder what the exact story will be since presumably only that black Dalek survived Doomsday last season and there aren't supposed to be anymore Daleks left. ;)

Yeah, it was cool to hear the Doctor mention Gallifrey finally. We discussed it earlier in this thread, but I wonder if Boe's 4 words will be "You are not alone". That could lead to the reappearance of the Rani (although I never thought much of her character) or who knows - Romana or the Master! ;) Although as I said before, if they do ever bring the Master back, they better do it properly and not "just cuz".

The Ice Warriors would be cool to see again. Were they not friends though, rather than foes, the last time we saw them? Of course it's all relative when dealing with time travel... ;)

As for the Doctor having a son, I don't know how I feel about that. On the one hand I suppose it's not that far-fetched since, after all, Susan was supposedly his granddaughter. On the other hand though, this somewhat reminds me of the whole "Doctor is half-human" thing from the Doctor Who movie, which was an angle I didn't like whatsoever. :(

As for Captain Jack, bring him on! That will be most excellent.

Edit: That looks amusing with all the emoticons scattered across the screen... :D

It is back for a second season. Except apparently it'll be on BBC2 instead of BBC3 (currently it's rebroadcast later on in the week on BBC2). It's not that bad, but not as good as it could have been. Though "Random Shoes" was great.

As for the Christmas special, I didn't like it as much as last year's, but it was good light fun, and I never imagined they'd ever do what was essentially a car chase with the TARDIS. :)

I know, I was especially pleased with my 'confirmed' hanging there in my previous post. :D

A thought on Saxon...

Mr Saxon certainly appears to be a person of some power and influence in the British Government, possibly even Harriet Jones' replacement as PM. I'm almost totally certain that I'm completely wrong here, but the mention of Gallifrey brings Timelords to mind, and if we're right about the Face of Boe's message relating to at least one other Timelord surviving...

Apparently, according to RTD the Face of Boe's message will be revealed before the season finale, where it's likely that the Saxon mystery will be solved. My suspicion is that following Boe's revelation, the Doctor will discover Mr Saxon is a surviving Timelord and confront him in the closing episodes.

As for the identity of this mysterious Mr Saxon... could it be the Meddling Monk, who the Doctor first encountered in Saxon England and who has a past record in interfering with the Earth's affairs? He has the advantage of being an old, slightly obscure villain (which will please older viewers), and he doesn't have the baggage of the Master...

Either that or calling the big villain 'Saxon' is the Welsh production team having a gentle dig at the English. ;)

...anyway, no doubt I'm totally, hopelessly wrong but a bit of idle speculation is always fun. :D

To be honest, I doubt that the average viewer would be bothered or even aware of it. And of course, even if there was a potential issue there wouldn't even be any need for Lalla Ward to make an appearance – Romana may well have racked up a regeneration or two since we last saw her. ;)

Well, we'll see if they're able to work out some of the shortcomings of this inaugural season then. Regardless, I'll still be watching it. ;) :)

That makes two of us! Yeah, there was something I didn't really like with that whole scene...

A thought on Saxon...

Interesting thoughts!

That would be a good way to bring back an old villain which old viewers could appreciate and someone that new viewers wouldn't feel clueless about, i.e. "I don't get it, who is he?!?". After all, they did the same thing with the Autons in the first episode of the new series, and I'm sure many people had no clue that they first made their appearance over 30 years ago. ;)

Or maybe just to add a inexplainable twist to everything it will be revealed that Captain Jack is The Master. ;) :D

Actually I loved it. :) I'm quite in favor of audacious stunts like that ("I know! Let's do a car chase with the TARDIS!"), as long as they can pull it off, which they did in this case. Sometimes they don't....

Yeah, I now what you mean, but I guess I still don't like the idea of the TARDIS physically moving in the manner that they have had it move sometimes throughout these past 2 seasons. It was never supposed to be a physically moving vehicle IMO, rather a vehicle which moved "sideways" throughout time and space - dimensionally, not linearly. Crashing into buildings, chasing cars, towing space ships out of black holes, I guess I'm just not completely cool with that concept yet.

So, what did you guys think of The Sarah Jane Adventures?

What?! You haven't watched it yet?! :D

Anyway, it's not too bad; IMHO, better than Torchwood, though clearly aimed at a younger audience. Then again, I'm not sure that separates it from Torchwood... ;)

I can only handle one substandard spin-off at a time, so no Sarah Jane Adventures for me for a while. I still have to finish watching Torchwood...

So, the first episode of Season 3 looks like its set to air at the start of April - only a coople more months to wait! :)

I can't say I've seen it either. Is the swearing and sex on a par with Torchwood? :D ;)

It's a little toned down. :D

Seriously, though, the sex and language in Torchwood always comes off a little... forced. The Sarah Jane Adventures benefits, I think, from being aimed at a younger audience, as it's better able to capture some of the naivete of Doctor Who. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

That said, the last episode of this season of Torchwood was better than, well, the entire rest of the series.

Jaffa - just started watching the finale for Torchwood. There's a poster stuck to a door that Captain Jack opens right at the beginning of the episode which has "Vote Saxon" on it. Thought you'd appreciate that. ;)

No Way! I do hope that's incorrect. Booooooooooooo! :D .

I don't know this actor well enough to know whether this is a good thing or not - I guess all I can comment on are my feelings towards what this means in general - and I still have to sort out exactly what those feelings are! ;) :D

Your thoughts Jaffa?

On the spoiler (in white):

I was sort of hoping the inevitable return of X would be deferred until a later time when RTD would not have the opportunity to do something ridiculous with the idea.
