Ok, good, glad I'm not the only one that didn't care for it. That and the few buddies I watched it with... I have to admit, there were several parts that made me want to throw something through my TV (and I'm a very easy going guy)... However, the general consensus on Gallifrey One (Dr Who message board) was that it was an AWESOME episode...

Actually, one friend of ours who was overseas when it aired, loved it. He gave it 7/10... So I took a cement block I had in my back yard, then my friend and I painted a face on it for when he got back into town. (Ya, we were bored. lol)

I enjoyed it and i can't stand Peter Kay
but i thought it was quite a clever way of getting around the necessity of having a doctor-lite episode.

it was a hell of a lot better that "Fear Her"

Ok, now that the new season just started, time to bump the thread...

What did everyone think?

New companion? I thought she did well. Good head on her shoulders. No complaints here...

The new episode in general? Some parts were really good! Others... made me just shake my head. I swear... RTD will come up with any excuse just to get the Doctor to snog...

I was glad when they took it to The Moon. Present-day London has been a little overdone recently. I liked the rhinos too.

Overall I thought it was a good episode, yes some cringe worthy moments but the good parts outweighed the not so good, also Freema is very easy on the eye and I think she will do well, and it was nice to start the series off-world too and the aliens looked good as-well.

I like the Trustworthy tag that's been added to my name haha, I really am trustworthy, honest! :)

I'm pretty excited to see this episode. I hope it begins broadcast in the US soon, elsewise I will have to turn to different methods to see it!

Take it from a Canadian in a similar situation - the torrents are your friends...

Of course at least here we have the CBC, but I still am not waiting 6 months to see the new season. You guys in the the States though, you're pretty much SOL aren't ya? :p ;)

I thought last night's episode was a pretty solid series opener, I'd certainly rate it higher than New Earth. The main function of the episode was to introduce Martha to the audience, the story was really secondary to that but it was an enjoyable enough romp none-the-less. Good stuff.

Well paced with some nice moments, some amusing one-liners and thankfully for a RTD penned episode no mention of the bloody Slitheen. It bodes well for the new series, I reckon – more of the same please.

Well, we have been getting it on SciFi Channel. The first season ("American" for "Series") was about year behind the UK, and the second season about a month behind Canada, if I'm not mistaken. I hope the American release date gets moved up a little this year, but I simply can't wait that long! I'll end up reading all the plot synopsis' and spoilers, and I'll ruin it for myself! :p

Why not just download them? :p ;) :D

I thought it was pretty good - even a mate of mine who isn't a Who fan and hasn't seen any with Tennant in couldn't look away. He's hooked :D

Martha seems to be a good addition, and they did explain away her previous incarnation in the last series. Bit of a ropey explaination, but it'll do.

Glad to see Tennant has signed on for another series!

Yep, I thought this was a solid first episode as well. And was it ever revealed beore that the Doctor had a brother? Just curious....
No, I don't think it has been, although apparently when the character of the Master was first conceived it was intended that he was the Doctor's nasty sibling but this has never been mentioned on air. Of course, with rumours that the goateed one will be returning in this series some people on teh interwebs are getting a little over excited about this comment. :D

When Martha was asking him if he was alone, why he didn't travel with anyone, his family, etc. It was a quick comment he made when she asked about siblings - watch it again, you'll see. ;)
It was when he was in the hospital posing as a patient and he was denying that it was him she'd seen earlier that morning – Martha asked if he had a brother and the Doctor replied something to the effect of 'Not anymore.'

Yeah, I could see that. Still not sure how I feel about that...

Yeah, that's the scene, thanks for clarifying! :)

Has to be the Christmas episode. There was always something Sheriff of Nottingham about that particular Time Lord, so panto season would be perfect timing for his return :)

Better than no explanation at all, like when the Doctor, played by Colin Baker, just happened to look exactly like one of the security guards (or something) on Gallifrey, played by Colin Baker, during one of Peter Davison's stories.... Maybe THAT was his brother. ;)

Yes, that's right, he was Commander Maxil in "Arc of Infinity". If I remember correctly he has the distinction of being one of the few characters on Doctor Who who actually shot the Doctor.

Any thoughts on The Shakespeare Code? Just grabbed it off the Internet but haven't watched it yet... I'll check it out tonight and post my thoughts afterwards...

I didn't think it was a bad little tale, all in all. For you ~Shard~ and others who haven't seen it, I'll share my thoughts in spoilertastic white text...

My only complaint would be that there were maybe a few too many 'I might use that line!' gags, but that aside I rather enjoyed it. I think Shakespeare should have had a bit more of a West Midlands accent too, but that's a minor quibble. ;)

Personally, I'm wondering what the Doctor will do at some point in the future to annoy good Queen Bess so much – maybe next year's 'historical' will reveal more? Mind, the arrow thudding into the door of the Tardis was very reminiscent of Silver Nemesis – I wonder if it'll still be there at the start of the next episode? :p
