I quite enjoyed it as well - I thought it was a pretty well-written tale all in all. The potential was there for this just to be a "gimmick piece", what with using Shakespeare and all, but it turned out to be a pretty good story. I also liked the encounter at the end - nice setup... ;)

Well, let's hope the calibre of episodes continues to be good. Next week we're off to the "Gridlock" of New New York as we revisit New Earth once again. I'm quite looking forward to seeing the Face of Boe again and will be watching intently as he imparts his big secret... And then we head into the first 2-parter of the year with our good friends the Daleks... lots to look forward to... ;)

Shakespeare Code

I'll third the "enjoyable" crowd on this one. Loved the inside jokes, yes the "I might use that," gag was almost over-used but it was redeemed a bit with the "you can't, it's somebody else's."

And the "57 academics punch the air" line was great, if you got the joke.

Next week's definitely looks good, finally, somewhere that's not London and somewhen that's not present day.

Some worrying news ahead of Saturday. The BBC are showing live coverage of the Watford-Manchester United FA Cup tie – and if said match goes into extra time then Doctor Who will be postponed for a week!

Bloody Manchester United.

Can I change that to "Bloody W*tford, BOOOOOO! HISSSSS!"
We'll just agree on bloody Premiership teams, okay? ;)

On a similar subject, I'll assume the abyss in your location is the same one that I'm gazing into in mine? It's not a nice place, that almost bottomless pit...

Agreed on the Premiership, I still want Man U to win in the allotted 90 mins for obvious reasons, one of them being on the lash (to drown my sorrows/celebrate) and setting EyeTV to record Doctor Who which looks like it could be an interesting episode, what with The Face Of Boe going to utter those words we've all been waiting for, it would be a great annoyance to me to come home from the pub and settle down to what could be a potentially crucial episode only to see eleven blokes dressed in yellow trying to be the first to launch a satellite through the use of human power.

My Abyss looks like this...

Admittedly the old Dog Kennel isn't much better :D

What?! No discussion on tonight's episode?!

Well I thought it was excellent. And it makes driving through London seem not that bad. :)

That episode was extremely good. The central concept was so well done. My favourite bit was when The Doctor looked in the back of Father Dougal's camper van and the kitten said "Mama" :D

Only disappointment was that I'd successfully worked out the Face's secret before he said it, but the rest of it was great. Martha is really working out as a character.

I got to see the episode a little earlier this evening and I thought it was rather good. There was some cracking CGI work too.

The Face of Boe's message was predictable, although contradictory...

...building up to the message by telling the Doctor that they were the last two of their respective kinds, but then the message itself suggesting that the Doctor wasn't 'alone'. So, does it refer to the Time Lords or not? I suppose it could be said that the Master (rumoured of course to be involved later this series) is a Time Lord no more, what with his past few appearances essentially being him in possession of the bodies of members of other species. So if the Time War somehow wiped the Time Lords from history as seems to be the case, he might just have survived because he's not a proper Time Lord. Or something.

Anyway, Daleks next week.

Yeah, I thought the same thing as well [Jaffa. The other thing I found a little odd was...

]If Boe has lived for billions of years and it was "written in scripture" (or whatever you like) that he would pass on a profound message to someone before he died, then why would it necessarily be to the Doctor, and secondly, why would it simply be to tell him he's not alone? I mean, out of all the secrets of the universe and so forth, that's it?!? I just find that a little odd and anti-climatic in a way - and not very "profound"... more personal, really...

All in all though a very enjoyable episode. This season is batting pretty much perfect for me so far - and there's the potential to extend that streak with our good friends the Daleks again next week in the season's first 2-parter.

Ah yes
sweet revenge for Anthony LaPaglia as Daphne's brother in Fraser
and not to mention Don Cheadlel in Oceans 11
"shudders"

an otherwise enjoyable episode

Oh, and by the way – last night's episode wasn't bad. It did feel a little slow at times, and as discussed some of the accents were a little on the dodgy side, but apart from that it was enjoyable enough.

One thing I did think though...

I did find it surprising that none of the Cult of Skaro recognised the Doctor – what with him being the arch enemy of their species you would have thought they'd have remembered what he looks like from the last time their paths crossed.

Or maybe us humanoids all look the same to them? ;)

One question about that

Wasn't Christopher Eccleston the last Doctor to come face to face with the Daleks? I thought during the last encounter Rose and Mickey met the Daleks, but the Doctor was always busy fighting the Cybermen before he opened the rift into the Void. It's been a while since I saw the end of season 2 though. Am I wrong there?

If I am right, The Doctor probably didn't want to get close enough for the Daleks to mentally scan him, but appearance wise he was fine.

One question about that...
I'll answer in spoiler text, just in case I say something I shouldn't... ;)

Nope, the Cult saw him (the tenth Doctor) face to face in Doomsday. Firstly on a video screen, when Rose identified him to them as the Doctor (the Daleks did a cool little 'step' back in fear which I enjoyed :D), and then the Doc strolled into the room where they were holding the Genesis Ark, Rose and Mickey and blathered at the Daleks for a bit.

Nope, he wasn't scanned by them as Martha was – but you would have thought they would have recognised him visually. You'd surely recognise your arch enemy – I mean, I'd recognise Dennis Wise if I saw him in a line-up. ;)

Noo Yoikers, surely? :D

Given how many US shows massacre British accents, I think a little turnaround is fair game. ;)

Desperate houewives ian and his parents on the last episode, the writers made it so that Ian's (a british man who is scottish in real life) mother didn't know what a BBQ was.
