That episode actually gets better on the 2nd viewing. Still don't get some parts of it mind.

Bear in mind that I'm not a Doctor Who viewer, but I just saw this in my travels. Forgive me if it's old news.
Fret not, it isn't old news. So, a new companion is on the cards. I'm kinda hoping it's Sally Sparrow from Blink, who already has shown that she's more than capable of warding off an alien threat or two. :)

More likely though it'll be another lass who ends up fancying the Doctor. It never happened with Hartnell.

Martha saving the world. Rose wiping out the Daleks was a bit much for me at the time, and this was more of the same for me.

Yeah, I'm still torn. I want to like the episode but it seems a bit too much like season one's finale to be completely content with it.

Utopia - I called this, in that I knew we hadn't heard the last of it. :D But why would the future humans come back to kill themselves? Had they degenerated so much that it just didn't matter to them anymore?

I think the humans were already killing themselves as the universe collapsed in a Lord of the Flies type of situation and once "saved" by the Master with the possible help of some mind control circuitry it wasn't hard to make them kill other humans for "fun".

that was his wife picking up the ring at the end, so what does this mean? To me, it means the Master somehow switched places with his wife and shot her to fake his death - but would he actually have been that clever and be able to put his arrogance aside in order to plan for this? Unlikely, but you never know... However, if he did transfer into his wife's body somehow, then with Archangel now disabled would the Doctor not feel his presence still with nothing to mask it?

I think that the chameleon device used to change a Timelord into a human can be modified to allow you to keep your memories. It's also not inconceivable that with proper modification it could allow a human to become a Timelord with the right object holding a Timelord's essence. It's possible that the Master, although confident was not secure enough in his plan to not have an escape route.

How did he repair the TARDIS? It was looking pretty hurting...

Lastly, the TARDIS is indestructible, so how could the Titantic penetrate it's walls like that?!

I figure that was a "repair" gone wrong. I don't think the Titanic necessarily penetrated the TARDIS, more that the TARDIS materialized around part of the Titanic in an "error"

And Captain Jack is the Face of Boe?!? Wow, didn't see that one coming... If that's the case though, then Cassandra was not in fact the last pure human. Hmm, but I thought that Boe came from the planet of Silver Desolation or something that that effect and wasn't human... Well, it could always be a coincidence... ;)

I thought that the true origins of the Face of Boe were unknown and only a legend. It's also entirely possible that given his status as an "impossible being" Jack may not be completely human. Or that being from a more enlightened time that he might not have ever been purely human. Or he may have modified his genetic code as time rolled on in an effort to try to die. At any rate there may be a number of reasons that Jack might not be 100% human as the Face of Boe

Just my thoughts (I needed some non-white text).

I must be in the minority but I really liked Freema Agyeman. :(

But Apparently she is to eventually come back after a spell on Torchwood :)

(I would really love to have interracial action with her   )

I don't think the Face of Boe will want to die, when he realises that he's integral to the Masters storyline he'll want to stay alive until that 3rd meeting with the Doctor.
He only wanted to die when he had no purpose. But his future self saved the human race (which he is, so it protects his future).

looking at this thread with all the white text looks very funny

but yeah go Kylie and yes that bird from Blink was nice;) like to see her be a sidekick

I don't think.....
That's exactly it. The writers basically explained the whole mechanism in Blink, including why nothing could be said until the appropriate times. I thought that was a very clever method, getting the audience used to the idea in a standalone ep then expanding it out to having been the major arc of the series so that everything falls into place right at the end.

This is all rumour but apparently someone found kylie's "To Do List" (I know sounds stupid) and it said "Pick up Doctor Who Script" So.. who knows.. But I heard this on Radio One so..

Ruddy nora! First Billie "cuz we want to" Piper, now Kylie? Less of the singers, more of the unknowns!

And once Kylie's finished at Christmas, we've got Catherine Tate (Donna from the Runaway Bride) for the whole of series 4.

Mental, this programme is becoming. Mental. But in a good way, hopefully.

Sad day :( I'm done with Who now, I really can't sit through a whole season of Tate. Probably a good thing, as I have little free time as it is.

I honestly thought this was a joke when I read it, and then I read the press release... I'm not sure what to make of this really. As an American, I am not familiar with Tate beyond her appearance in The Runaway Bride. I thought she was ok, but a little grating. I'm not too thrilled with her as a regular companion. It sounds like the kind of stunt casting that John Nathan Turner did during the final years of Doctor Who in the late '80s. Similarly, I'm not thrilled with Davies' additional announcement of other great guest stars.

I'm going to contemplate this some more for a while... Maybe watch The Runaway Bride again... More thoughts to come later!

For those that haven't seen the release yet, here it is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2007/07/04/46831.shtml

QFT

For our US cousins: She's famous in the UK for a fairly hit and miss sketch show... another 'comedienne' who does silly voices and wears silly hats. :(

Oh dear. As long as they don't get her to try being funny on the show. Female comedians who are actually entertaining are a rare beast indeed. (e.g. How the heck did Dawn French ever get a career?)

I hope they don't ruin it. The last 3 episodes have been gold.

i loved the runaway bride x-mas special - not a fan of her so called funny stuff but as a actress i think she wil be great

Hmm... I hadn’t heard the news about Catherine Tate. Mixed feelings about this. She wasn’t bad in the Christmas Special (much better than I thought she’d be, to be fair) but is she a suitable choice for a season-long companion, rather than just a one-off guest star? I suppose only time will tell.

Cue Comic store guy fan-boy overreaction along the lines of
"Worst Assistant ever!"

As soon as i saw this i knew it would hugely unpopular in some quarters
personally i can't say I'm particularly excited about series 4 now

Someone’s going to say it sooner or later, so it might as well be me.

Are we bovvered?

Yes.
Groan :p

It's not that I particularly dislike Catherine Tate herself, but that Donna character was just Lauren grown up and that joke got very tired a while ago. If she played the character differently it could work, but you just know she won't.

:(
