Very punny, tobe'. :p

I'm around 227 right now (goal was 200) - got really stalled in my training/nutrition for the past couple of months, and didn't make nearly as much progress as I wanted. I'm still happy that I'm down overall from 241 in January and getting back to my healthy/active weight.

For me the trick lately has been more strength and conditioning work to boost my metabolism and lean body mass, which also helps with injury prevention and keeping my doing my sports more regularly.

would love to get in to buckling down and doing this...freshman year of college was absolutely brutal to my health. quick question though about training. what do you do when you get a stitch? i get them inevitably when i play sports as overweight as i am, but i have never known what do to. after the pain becomes unbearable i usually just stop and pant until it goes away, but is that all you can do?

Heck, I'll join.

I'm 17, 6 ft. 3 1/2, and weight about 220 lbs.

I weighed about 170 lbs. there for a bit, but then I got taller and I gained. I want to get down to about 180 lbs.

I'm well on my way too. In the past week I've already lost 3 pounds, so hopefully this'll be a happy ending.

Currently, I'm 6' and 270lbs. Waist is 43" so I'm not that big, but I would love to get back to 220lbs. I do apartment maintenance for a living, so there is a lot of heavy lifting involved. My metabolism took a nose dive back when I turned 40. Now that I'm 48 it is barley crawling. :(

No pain no gain. In all seriousness, if you're out running and you get a stitch, try slowing your pace until it goes away. Don't stop. Keep your heart rate up. Try slower paced workouts.

Don't overdue it at the beginning, you'll be in pain, and you don't need reasons to quit. Right? It took me three tries at getting active to get it right. You have to remember your diet is a big part of it too. Until you start eating right and exercising you won't see a change.

Any chance of resurrecting this thread?

I hurt my knee about two years ago and am finally able to be back in the gym. I've never had the best eating habits but used to work out regularly. At 5'10" I'm hating my weight, which was 215 on Thursday, my first day back in. My biggest concern, however, is just being out of shape generally.

I'm focusing on low weight on cardiovascular machines and lots cardio as I simply reintroduce my body to working out. When I focus on legs I'm using particularly low weight for slow, fluid, controlled movement. Used to swim competitively so I'll start swimming laps after two to three weeks of daily cardio (so I don't drown) but figure it will probably be two or three months before I'm back on freeweights. I'm trying to be patient.

I have begun to make better decisions when eating but I'll be working with my doctor about putting together a nutrition plan soon.

Oh, and I absolutely hate to run. Hate.

My goal weight is 185.

I'm at 162.0 right now, which is about 5 pounds above my lowest weight since high school, achieved earlier this year. I haven't been eating as well as I was, which is the biggest change. However, I didn't start losing weight last year until June.

I'd like to see 155 by the end of the year. That would be amazing. However, I am quite content right around the 160 mark.

Well I dont need to lose any weight if anything i am to skinny now but I use to be overweight so Ill post some tips that hopefully can help. End of the 10th grade i was 210lbs and pretty big not alot of muscle high body fat % as of yesterday finishing senior year i am 138lbs and only 5% body fat. Basically i got out all crap from my diet if u want to lose weight you cant eat crap if you are craving something sweet eat some fruit it tastes great and is great for you. Only eat lean meats chicken, turkey etc. Whole grains lots of fiber which will keep you full. Drink insane amounts of water if water is to boring for you get one of those crystal light flavored water packages. You dont need to excersice if you want to lose weight i lost most of weight just eating right and walking to school but obivoulsly if u want muscle you are going to have to workout.

Building muscle is the best thing for weight lose as the more muscle you have the more calories you burn doing nothing. You burn 35calories for every lb of muscle as opposed to 1 calorie for every pound of fat. So weight lift 3-4 times a week and have some protein afterwards and do cardio 4-5 a week. Hope this helps i Typed it in 5min

Just discovered this thread.

ddollar, that is pretty severe. I would go more a more "normal" BMI, were I you.

For me, at 6', 200 is too much. I would like to get down to 180.

They say that your ideal weight is what you were at age 25. Just a rumour. ;)

Were that true, I would have to shed 45 pounds.

Being active is part of a healthy lifestyle. People that are skinny can be just as unhealthy as people that are overweight. "Skinny-fat" I like to say. Being physically fit, and looking good is far more rewarding then just being skinny.

Some people could run 15k a day, live on rice and still not break 200lbs. It's their body type. You got to be able to except it.

I am no skinny fat i go to the gym 4-5 times a week and run 3-5 times a week i am in great shape

weight loss is 80% diet you can lose weight with little exercise if you eat right

To a point that might be true, but only because so many people's diet is so awful. Yes, changing to a balanced diet to move away from Burger King and Taco Bell two meals a day will make a difference, but every doctor I've ever spoken to about diet has hammered home that exercise is imperative to weight loss and general health. You're exaggerating or ill-informed.

Thank you. That is what I was trying to get across.

Checking in:

With relatively no changes to diet and one week in the gym I'm down 6lbs to 209. Just checking in, I know that losing that much after being so inactive and in the first week of focused effort won't be typical as soon as even this week, but I'm happy with the change in how I feel already.

It's time for me to jump back into the fray...:)

Currently: 6'4" and 232 pounds

I plateaued at 227 for a while but recently, despite training for and completing a marathon  I'm back up to 232.

I've been doing more strength condition, which has lead to some additional muscle mass, but I'm still carrying a good 20 pounds of extra weight.

So, my goal is to lose 1-2 pounds a week for the next 20 weeks or so to be under 210 by the end of September.

i started about a year and a half ago at 220 lbs... through diet i got down to about 190 in about six months... then i stayed there forever... finally i realized i would have to exercise to lose anymore weight... so i have been running and going to the gym since late feb... i went from 186 lbs to 198 lbs... so i put on 12 pounds of muscle... but then i finally started losing fat... i am now down to 189... so really to lose weight you need to exercise... my goal is 160... anyway, i wish you all luck, it is so hard to lose weight and keep it off... stay motivated.

I'm new at this...

Back in January of 2008, I was 268lbs. Now, In July, I am 248lbs. Oh and I'm 6'-4".:) 20lbs in a 7 months. I'm taking things slow but I'm starting to work harder at it. My goal is to be 210 by Christmas of this year.:)

I'll post a graph once I figure out how to work Numbers.:eek:

I don't know about posting screenshots, as I am not consistent about weighing myself (no scale at home). Numbers may have to suffice for now. I guess I'm not a total commit to the challenge. If you will take me as is, I'd appreciate it.

196: weigh in at a Dr. appt on 5/14/08 (shoes on, but that's my problem)
165: goal; although 167 is the actual goal, 165 more rounded

Interim weigh ins had me back and forth between 198 and 191. Recently I committed to weekly weigh ins. I weighed in at 191 on 7/7, 189 on 7/14. The goal is to reach my ideal weight by Oct 1, although I don't expect to reach it until 12/8.

Still hanging around the 58 kilo mark but I don't mind. Starting to see a little muscle coming through

i'm in the same boat......and considering that i run around 40-50 miles a week, that probably isn't helping either.....
Yea because of running I have to fight to just stay at the same weight, and not drop to a unhealthy level.

I suppose it could be worse...

People that are skinny can be just as unhealthy as people that are overweight.

You don't need to rub it in. :p

I'm the slim type, high metabolism in my teens (I could basically eat whatever I wanted, as much of it as I wanted and I wouldn't gain weight), but now that I've hit a more sedentary college life, I can definitely see a difference. The weight gain is not that big (I'd say 6 pounds tops, I don't have a scale), concentrated around my mid-section. Besides cutting down on the snacks (I love cookies and chocolate) and start to do some jogging, is there anything else I can do?

Oh, and is it possible to lose at least a pound or two in a month? (/wishful thinking)

I'm sad to see this thread is dying a slow and painful death. Kind of like my progress. Stupid plateau.
