Are USA & Italy still tied? I'm watching the University of Georgia -vs- Rice baseball game, so I can't see the USA -vs- Italy match.

yeah beasley (I think it was him) scored another one but it didnt count

Italy you donkeys... all those chances wasted.

u.s.a didn't look like scoring a goal of their own.

extremely poor game.

Yes you do.

Even my beloved Henry at Arsenal tries it from time to time.
Robben at Chelsea. van Nistelrooy at Man U.
Doesn't happen as often as in other countries, but it still happens too much.
So you dont like Italy, you roll your eyes at past performances that won them the occasional World Cup game, you dislike footballers who dive, er Italians... any one else on your list? Italian drivers, Ferraris, Milan fashion...

Anyway, soccer is all about opinions, and, as long as you never ever criticise del pierro, I dont care who you have issues with ;)

well done USA.

Congrats!
I was surprised to see the Totals on Time of Control. I think the USA did well to earn a point with just 9 on the field.
P.S. I wouldn't put any bets that Larrionda stays around. He was disciplined in previous times for calling games "inconsistently".

So where does the USA go from now? Still have a chance to advanced, and is it likely? I don't know much about soccer or the world cup. Just curious.

They have a chance to advance, I just don't think it's going to happen. Italy has to beat the Czechs, and I think they can certainly do that; US has to beat Ghana, which looks like an unlikely result.

All four teams in the group – the US, Italy, Ghana and the Czech Republic – could all still qualify when the final matches are played on 22 June. The US are currently at the bottom of the group but if they can beat Ghana and Italy can beat the Czechs, they'll go through. It is an outside chance they'll progress, but it's a chance none the less.

haha...

BTW, I DO like Del Pierro!

But, yeah I'm not a Ferrari F1 fan ;)

I love Italian food, though.... does that make up for it? :p

You are forgiven! I think the Italians are great and Del Pierro especially ever since him and his team completely thrashed a rocking real madrid side three years back. The Spanish say Italian football is boring, which with two italian sides cancelling each other out, it can be, but put them in an open game and they are awesome. Not quite awesome enough for USA, OMG I dont believe it, they drew with the weakest team in the "group of interesting elimination".

If Italy win their final match against Czech Repulic and USA can beat Ghana (not unlikely given their showing tonight) then the USA will go through to the 2nd round.

I dunno.. I think that game (USA vs. Italy) goes to the ref. Not just the red cards, but calls against both teams that were unwarranted. That last yellow against Italy for example. WTF? And too many fouls called. World Cup games are usually rough - though the US really needs to work on playing a cleaner game.

What kind of game was Italy playing anyway? Rope-a-dope? In the last 10 mins they took more shots at the goal than the did the whole rest of the game, didn't they? (perhaps that's overstating it a bit...)

yoji

US did pretty well in the midfield. Too bad they totally bogged down when they reached the penalty area. Italy's defense gets much credit here, but the US isn't amongst the more creative teams out there.

Larrionda, simply enough, has to go. Both sides have significant, legitimate gripes against the guy. At least he finally swallowed his whistle for the last third of the match and let them play for a while.

I'm glad the US got the draw. They have a good team, but definitely not up to the hype. I was so disgusted after their first game that I didn't even bother to watch this game. Might have been the worst performance I had ever seen.

1st game = worst performance
2nd game = dirtiest performance ever

Hype is hype, but means nothing. Next June 22 provided Italy win over Czech R and USA win over Ghana, they both advance.

Some teams who have either lived up to or have been greater than their hype, IMO: Argentina, Ecuador, Spain, Holland, Portugal, Germany
Edit: Forgot Australia. My sincerest apologies to the Aussies.
