It'll give me a chance to run the rule over Sven's selection and tactics before the competitive matches get under way. :)

And I'm sure he'll be grateful for your tactical nous and penetrating insights. :D

Who is actually going to be at a game?

I'm going to be in Europe at the same time but I wont be able to go :( At least I'll have a chance to actually watch the matches!!! I'd have to pay 25 dollars a match to watch it on TV in america :(

Is anyone here going to watch Korea Republic v. Togo?
How many of the games from the entire tournament will you watch?

I'll probably see about 3 or 4... not that many.

I'll be trying to watch every game!

It's one of the few (only?) perks of working in a TV shop!

A couple of tournaments ago, I tried watching as many as possible but became a little jaded by the knock-out stages which was a shame.

I don't have a telly now but envy your job; you'll probably have some high-definition sets with it on, won't you?

Well, since my country got placed into a very unfortunate group (USA), you can put me behind Spain.

Hmmm, maybe time to go visit my friends in Germany in June?

I'm hoping that the Netherlands finally wins a World Cup.

Hup Holland!

Nice to see support for our Orange army!

We have come close in the distant past (2nd in '74 and 2nd in '78), and my favourite memory of all: Bergkamp's winner against Argentina in 1998.
Bergkamp is my personal all-time favourite.... not in the least by his Wonderland at Arsenal.

We have to get through that match against the Argentines again! This time, however, it's going to be very very hard. The quality we had 8 years ago is far, far more than we can enjoy today. That said, this squad will doesn't suffer the huge favourites-pressure... we are outsiders this time round.

IMHO, England applies its own absurd-huge pressure. Now that Rooney probably will play, they put themselves under so much pressure, I wonder if it is at all possible to perform.
But, I do hope England can win it again.

I will also be watching France.... who won't be following Henry??

I'm going to cheer for Portugal (As you can tell by my tar and sig). I think there in for a shot, but I'm doubtful.

I also could not be any prouder of the Australian team, regardless of their outcome, they have shown Australians to love soccer even more so, also they have given millions of bucks to the Australian Soccer Federation (entering World Cup), which will go to advertising soccer in Australia ;) I do believe that this will pave way for a brighter Australian squad in the years to come, and who knows, maybe we will win a World Cup :)

DeSnousa, Figo has retired.

Anyway, my exams finish on the 16th June so i will be watching as many games as possible.

So, does anyone care?

Edit: Upon reflection, that may be a little cryptic but I'm sure most people in the UK know what that refers to.

Australia won a friendly tonight against Greece, 1-0. They played quite well apparently, though I still don't like our chances of getting past the first round in the World Cup.

Stop me if you've heard this one.....

It is just before the Australia v Brazil Group game at the World Cup.

Ronaldino goes into the Brazilian changing room to find all his teammates looking a bit glum. "What's up?" he asks.

"Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only Australia. They're sh*te and we can't be bothered".

Ronaldino looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat these by myself, you lads go down the pub."

So Ronaldino goes out to play Australia by himself and the rest of the Brazilian team go off for a few jars. After a few pints they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads "Brazil 1 - Australia 0 (Ronaldino 10 minutes)".

He is beating Australia all by himself!

Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on". They put the teletext on.

"Result from the Stadium "Brazil 1 (Ronaldino 10 minutes) - Australia 1 (Viduka 89 minutes)".

They can't believe it, he has single handedly got a draw against Australia!!

They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate Ronaldino. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in his hands. He refuses to look at them. "I've let you down, I've let you down."

"Don't be daft, you got a draw against Australia, all by yourself. And they only scored at the very, very end!"

"No, No, I have, I've let you down... I got sent off after 12 minutes"

Rooney's out for another 6 weeks according to BBC News.

We're screwed then.

Indeed. They're saying best case scenario, he'll be fit two days before the final. Of course, that's fit as in his foot will be healed – he'll be nowhere near match fitness.

So, who will go in his place – assuming Sven isn't daft enough to take him? Please not Andy Johnson... :(

Screwed with and screwed without.

Since when is one player enough to win a world cup? England need to have solid tactics and a solid team unit.... they have neither.

How can you say that after Englands stellar performance against Belarus last night??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

</sarcasm>
