Hey ~Shard~, Up Yours™ with the icing. I shouldn't have expected anything less from the Brazil bashers. :p
Still, you gotta admit, it's a pretty awesome accomplishment.

Oh, I totally do - he looked great today. Actually I have nothing against Brazil, I was just being a bastard in general. ;)

Yep, you're the King. I understand you have an image to maintain too. When an opportunity presents itself, what can you do but pounce? It's I.B.S. an Innate, Bastardization Syndrome, a DNA thing. ;)

I have never heard someone put it so well before - thank you for understanding me so well. :D ;)

Well I'll be damned....
Sorry, but baseball bores me to tears. And I find cricket interesting so that doesn't speak too highly about baseball...

Did you know that the first international cricket matches were played between the US and England? Bet ya didn't.

Yeah Baseball really is boring I only got into it the past few years because I joined a fantasy league.

We have a cricket team? Cool. I was in Oxford last summer during the Ashes tournment between England and Australia. Though I don't think I could ever get into a sport that takes breaks for lunch and tea with one game lasting days.

"Waiting for the next match" stuff to do

I was sent http://www.fingerskilz.tv/dasblog/ today and thought all of the football fans might appreciate it while waiting for the next match to be televised.

I urge you to go to the entry for Friday, June 02, 2006 and play the video there first. Is it for real, or computer-generated/assisted? Or is this all old stuff and I am too late with it?

The whole point of cricket is the eating and drinking. The game itself is just an excuse to get the Pimms out. The several days bit just allows everyone to go on a serious bender whilst pretending they're actually being sophisticated. Why do you think it's so popular?

The one I'll be watching tonight is the France v Togo match.

Man, the French really made it tough on themselves this time round (last World Cup it was even worse.. ). They HAVE to win, and to be safe, win by at least 2 goals difference.
Zidane is suspended, so maybe that will give the team the "spice" needed to perform.

Come on, Henry! Don't want to see you exit early!

And speaking of "records" in an earlier post in here, congratulations to Ronaldo are due today. He tied Gerd Mueller for the all time most goals ever scored in World Cup competition (14).

but on the other side it needs to be noted that gerd müller scored his 14 goals with only appearing in 2 world cups (70,74) while this is already the 4th for Ronaldo

I don't think Poll would agree – it looks like he might be heading home after his errors. As Sepp Blatter says though (and it's not often I agree with him) there were two linesmen and the fourth and fifth officials – and none of them intervened or pointed out the error.

Yeah, that's what really got me. I can see the guy making a mistake, but come on, was no one else paying enough attention to intervene? What's the point of those little headsets that they are wearing anyway?

So, now we need Klose to shoot 5 more goals, then he will also have 14 goals in two tournaments. ;)

separated at birth

Has anyone else noticed the uncanny resemblance of Australian soccer icon, Guus Hiddink, and legendary alchoholic despot, Boris Yeltsin. And is there any connection with him working with the russian football team?

I think the standard response is "I think we should be told" :D

I forgot to say...YAY!

What is this bollox about Kewell's goal being offside. It was well onside, see screenshot. Not counting the goalie there's at least 3 maybe four people in front of him.

Your point would be valid except when the cross came in it was flicked on by an Aussie head, at that point he was offside.

Anyways, offside or no, Aussie's deserved it as they should have had at least one more penalty and the English ref gave a player 3 yellow's before finally sending him off.

I hadn't seen him until yesterday (I guess most of the fans watching teh games haven't seen him either).

How can he perform with all those extra pounds? He looks like a middle-aged man who should sit in an EZ-Boy with a beer watching the games, not one of the biggest WC goal scorers ever.

Doh, I forgot about that. But yeah it would have been cruel to disallow it given the two blatent penalties. I've seen a few replays of the 'rugby tackle' and I am still at a loss to explain how it wasn't a penalty. I mean it wasn't a split second hand ball, it took a good five seconds to wrestle Viduka to the ground. It was quite comical.

xsedrinam, Hmmm, Italy is bound to improve but they also seem to get nervous in these situations where they are facing underdogs. I'm thinking USA here and N. Korea in 1966. My prediction for the match is a 1-1 draw, and with Swartzer certain to return, Australia through on penalties. :D

Nice! Never thought about it like that.
