Yeah, saw that too.

I hate that unsporting appealing to the ref, and that referee cumbled under pressure.
Can't say he was bent, but more spineless...

...or this very, very bent referee.

He wasn't even considering giving a second yellow until three German players surrounded him and told him it was a yellow card offence  .
Carlos Eugenio Simon (Brazil). It didn't deserve a second yellow, imo. Yet more inconsistency from the refs. Sweden are having enough difficulties as it is.

By the way, gauchogolfer,

How was your night in Nice?

Well, it was pretty good, not too rowdy, but good enthusiastic fans out for a good time. Lots of cars cruising around with flags, horns honking, that kind of thing. Everyone was in a good mood, that was for sure.

both german strikers up in the front in the goal scoring list.. gonna be interesting if crespo can equalize in the evening

just watched both goals ... Klose was simply first class in both scenes especially in the second...

Wow, crazy start to the night's match. Mexico with a great goal at 6 minutes, we'll see how the Argentines respond.

Update: well, a goal three minutes later is a pretty good answer.

Another referee makes another dire, basic error. You only need to be slightly familiar with the rulebook to know that Heinze should have been sent off.

Really, I see better quality refereeing watching Stockport County in League Two week-in, week-out. FIFA need to do something for the next world cup, because this has been as poor as its been for a long time.

Argentina got off waaaaaay easy on that one.

Pretty entertaining match otherwise. Mexico looking like the better side so far, notwithstanding the own goal that wasn't called as such.

When we got promoted from League Two (or Division Three as it was) and started moving up through the divisions, I rteally hoped we'd be seeing a better standard of refereeing. It didn't take long to realise that wasn't going to be the case, and what we're seeing at this World Cup doesn't really offer much hope if these guys are supposed to be the world's top officials. :(

Argentina should be playing with ten men now – simple as that.

Offsides or not?

On to OT we go...

It was definitely not offside. But in my mind it makes up for the Heinze challeng which wasn't properly punished. If Heinze hadn't made that challenge, Mexico would've gone 2-1 up.

So, in my mind, all is fair at the moment.

Edit: Argentina will win, btw.

That was a better goal than Cole's. Amazing. It's going to be hard to top this game.
Mexico get respect for this one. Great match. As for Rodriguez's goal, well......all hail.
Edit: Messi's called off one would have been a story since it's his 19th birthday, today.

BTW, congrats to the 200 or so England fans who got arrested today, on a day when England wasn't even playing.

Now they're not only going to miss the England/Ecuador match tomorrow, but I'm sure they're going to find their names on the list of soccer hooligans... along with the 3000+ who had their passports temporarily repossessed by Her Majesty's Government before the World Cup, thereby preventing them from going to Germany.

Both sides looked to be to blame for this. German and English fans taunting each other, with predictable results. Such a shame that this stuff has to distract from the games themselves.

So, how does everyone feel about England/Ecuador? Will England be able to get through their spate of injuries (Ferdinand and Neville) as well as the predicted hot/humid Stuttgart weather? Will Ecuador get their attack back on track after sitting out Tenorio and Delgado and company against Germany? My rooting loyalties will be painfully divided, but I have to pull for Ecuador so my girlfriend's family will be happy. :)

Victory for England! Not sure if it'll be an easy one or hard fought...

What's the consensus about Germany v. Argentina? Germany hasn't yet let a goal by and Argentina struggled vs. Mexico, but ended it with a brilliant out of the box strike! My money's on Argentina...
