the only way England will meet a Dutchman or a Portuguese in Germany is on holiday partying outside the ground next week. This is suppoed to be a festival of football, what A disgraceful performance, and Rio Ferdinand, he needs to buck up or get rid of that haircut or something, but what a donkey. Ecuador are playing it right, and no reason why they wont win this.

Very nice play by A Cole to (barely) save the day! Too bad Tenorio couldn't have settled the ball closer to him for an earlier strike.

I was thinking this would be a 2-1 game, but this thing could stay deadlocked 0-0 all the way to penalties, unless someone makes another big mistake on their defensive end. That would really throw off my schedule for the day.

Pretty amazing intervention by Cole.. this is looking a bit depressing for England at the moment.. or maybe I'm just a pessimist.

Expecting and hoping an Engalnd win too.
And also expecting a rather boring match, albeit very tense.

1 - 0 to England, with an early Crouch goal, resulting in defensive play. And logical too. Very hot, and (what's even worse IMHO) very humid.

Ahum... ;)

OK. Not an early Crouch goal, but it was 1 - 0 and very tense!
:D

The good teams find a way to win, even when they don't play all that well. So, congrats to England. I think Ecuador managed to frustrate Rooney sufficiently. Hurtado got beat several times though. Beckam's set kick was on the mark, but I fault Mora for poor defending on it. Tenorio....sometimes it's a game of millimeters. Ecuador did not take good care of the ball, today.

how depressing compared to the Argentina Mexico game, must be the weather that won in the end, Great goal, Rooney was full of beans, bt was there anything else of note? Answers on a stamp.

Great free-kick from Mr. Posh Spice puts the English ahead.

With an assist from Mora for absolutely lousy positioning on the shot. Still, Becks put it in just the perfect spot, so all credit to him.

The Quarters are beginning to fill up with European sides. I've just two South American hopes remaining, and the Argentina vs. Germany match is a concern. If Brazil can take care of business with Ghana and get by (Spain/France), the schedule would still be on target for an England vs. Brazil Semi. I hope we see it, though I have some doubts with an England vs. Holland result.

I've seen nothing yet to indicate that England are a good *team* merely a bunch of players capable of individual brilliance at crucial moments.

Thanks to Beckham I don't have to suffer another half hour of sonambulist football. Who here would say they'd rather watch England play Ecuador rather than Croatia play Australia. We already know that win lose or draw When Australia play Italy tomorrow, it's bound to be a great game for the spectators.

But we both know that England lost.

I wonder if Australia would prefer to play OK and win or give the spectators a show and lose...

that maybe?

Oh, I see. That's a bit sad isn't it, raking up past posts. I seem to recall you making some 6-0 and 5-0 predictions. Oh that's right you weren't serious were you.

Anyhoo I notice that this time around you do no poo poo my suggestion that England are crap as a *team*. And you must admit that in four games so far they have produce about 25 minutes of watchable football.

Crouch had an exceptionally good game. Smiling, stretching out on the side. :p I did expect to see him, though. I've read enough in here to not venture down the path of trying to figure out what runs through Sven's mind, though.

The sad thing is that it was a fact.

Quite obviously not. Even a novice fan such as myself (sarcasm, incase you miss it) knows that there are hardly any scores like that.

You didn't say they were crap, now did you. You said that you saw nothing that makes you think that they were good.

God knows how such a "crap" team made it to the quarter final, whilst playing at about 40% of their potential. It might just be that 40% was good enough so far. I would say that it's better to win at 40% than lose at 100%

er...a single brilliant free kick and precious little else.

What I said earlier is that England are full of top shelf players who do not perform as a *team*. My whole point about what I've seen so far of England is that they are far less than the sum of their parts. I don't care who wins or loses apart from the Australian team, but I do want to see some good football for all my suffering of staying up all night.

But WHEN will they exceed that 40%? They appear to be making quite an effort for a team playing at 40%.

1) They are not put there to entertain you, they are there to win.
2) why put yourelf through such a horrific sounding sleepless few hours for such a crap team?

I give people the benefit of the doubt. I can't say they are crap as a team until after the event. I somehow keep hoping that I'll get to see some good football from them. Playing good football and winning the final go hand in glove. Which is why I suppose England haven't looked like winning a world cup since their last win 40 years ago.

They are potentially the best team on the planet.

Exacategly my point. They've got a goup of fantastic individual players. Why can't they produce some fantastic football even 40% of the time?
