i honestly hope for a bonding and clean world cup that unites the world for aa month. No match fixing, no bias, just an enjoyable, fun tournament to watch.

As to diving, its partof the game, everyone does it, Australias physically fit, but don't know how to dive to get a free kick, however more experienced players do. Thats all, saying players are pansies is wrong, they fake injuries, dont u see they get up after 2 minutes? its part of the game, what would you rather? being run down and getting the ball taken off you, or getting a free kick with an oppurtunity of a goal? its part of what makes the game unique and has been part of it for a long time

...however, that full stadium rendition (including hte people that sang the song) was.... emotional..
Indeed. It's also very easily adapted to be sung week in, week out at matches which has helped keep it popular ('We're going up' or 'You're going down', for example). I remember seeing the Euro 96 Semi-Final on the telly, with what seemed like the whole of Wembley singing Three Lions and waving their flags – sent a shiver down my spine, so it did. :)

and does somebody want to make the first guesses for today ?

will germany win the debut and will poland vs. ecuador end up in the battle of the defenses ?

I'd expect Germany to pick up the opening win. As for the other match, I'd tip Poland to come out winners. They beat Ecuador comfortably in a friendly at the end of last year and, although friendlies and competitive games are vastly different animals, I'd still expect them to come out with the three points today.

My predictions for todays games

Fully agree, although to be fair he did also think that Crouch was bought just as a goal scorer (despite what the manager who bought him has repeatedly said). So I wouldn't give the cantona opinion my credit when he dislikes his own players ;)

Is crouch one of his own players?!

Techinically not

What would you call being told to go back to your own country?

Germany already 1 up @6 min. Costa Rica may be in for a long, first match.
takao beat me to it.
CR evens it up at 1-1 @11:40!

ok then, guess i can't read this thread anymore. waiting to get home to my eyetv....

believe me it's worth it

Klose just scored the 2:1 in the 17th minute (and thus making himself a birthday present)

amazing game so far ...

well after like the first 25 minutes it looked like the germans were clearly shifting a gear back... and now just as i thought.. it's getting even slower *BLAM* second goal by Klose ... i guess Costa Rica is finished now it's simply too one-sided now even with germany playing a 1-2 gears slower

Why?? Why must the matches be during work hours?? (at least where I live) :( Granted, my co-workers and I managed to sneak a small TV into our office, but I still have work to do, and we might get our arses fired  :D I wish I could go back to college :(

It was lack luster aside from a couple of beautiful goals, but a strong win for Germany.

Side note: Lehmann along with several keepers has complained about the Adidas ball(s) being used. “When it rains it’s not going to be very comfortable for us. It gets very slippery. It also moves a lot in the air. The Nike ball feels more like an old fashioned leather ball. The Adidas one is more plastic.”

It's an equals to equals argument, but will be interesting to see if scores are any higher than usual.

I bet we get a lot more of the spectacular style goals like Germany scored two of today because of the ball..

since there very likely be little rain (at least he forecast for the next week looks good) ...

and on the other side you got a lot of praise for the ball from the non goalkeeper side ;)

Nice goal by Ecuador on a throw-in and two perfectly-placed headers. Poland 0 Ecuador 1 30:00

This link http://www.thefa.com/ takes you to the England official page. So then I click on the link that says Video: Penalty Shootout. That link takes me to another page specially titled England Penalty Shootout, so I click the link that says England Penalty Shootout. That then loads up a fracking video browser with 21 separate videos, none of which are the penalty shootout. But wait, there 14 fracking pages, that nearly 300 videos to trawl through. But there is a search button that doesn't work.
