So long Portugal... you will not be missed. By me, at least.

What a grind that was. And what an unappealing side... well, except for all the appeals for the diving and face-clutching.

Italy will be world champions (own-goal Bartez :D ).
Portugal will come fourth.

Eeesh! That was ridiculous with the diving in that game. I can understand them trying to fool the ref on a dubious tackle but some of those were just tripping over blades of grass.

Thought the penalty was a little generous but right team won...

Fingers crossed for the Azzurri on Sunday though...

Sweet. France in the final. Poor performance today though.

Come on France.. definitely want you to win now. Another atrocious display of diving, poor sportsmanship and general cheating by the Portuguese too..

Allez les bleus!

This is Italy's best chance of settling its score against France. :D

Bad memories of World Cup 1998 semi-finals and Euro 2000 final come to mind..

I say: Italy 2 - 0 France

Buffon keeps a clean slate.

Not Just the portuguese. Henry.

What a cheat. Horrific dive for the penalty (I'm not saying he wasn't touched at all because the defenders leg did hit him - that doesn't stop the fact of the superman theatrics though) and was average at best throughout the game. Another big game henry fails to impress in. For a player that his own manager says how he is the best player in the world to have to cheat like that is not on. That is twice the french have scored as a result of his cheating.

Anyway, I'm glad zidane gets to play in the final for his last game. Maybe henry can produce some of the quality that we all know he has.

It was a clear penalty for Henry. The defender did take his foot and he couldn't have continued the offense because he was out of balance because of it, but his fall did look exaggerated, I must admit.

He hit his leg, he could have clearly stayed on his feet, he infact paused then dived

It was a foul, no doubt about it, and fouls in the penalty box means a penalty, so thus a penalty. If the dive was exaggerated or whatever, it really does not matter, Henry could not finish his play.
Ronaldo and the rest of his drama team just waited till the ball was out of their reach, and then realised they could not reach it, so they fell like some fainting goats,.
And scolari made the biggest fool of himself, what a sore loser:mad:
But go france!!!!!

Thanks for the lesson on football. It's not like i've ever watched a game before. ;)

I've seen henry skip through those challenges hundreds of times and that is actually what he did, contact doesnt mean foul but he decided to dive - it is clear on the video i just posted. people tend to see what they want to see

It was less a lesson on football, but more a highlight how useless your post was. I have seen much worse "fakes" in the past. And so far u seem to be the only one that thinks that was a true fake.

Ah useless.. HE DIVED... He also played poorly.

a tap on the shin does not constitute a fowl, nor does " me seeming to be the only one that thinks so" make me wrong.

IMO that was a penalty and instead trying to salvage the play by playing on Henry let himself get fouled. In this situation it wouldn't have been to Henry's advantage to play thru the penalty. There are times to play thru a foul and there are times to let the foul be called. This was a time to let the foul be called.

If you want to talk about real dives all you have to do is look to Portugal's "synchronized diving" routine towards the end of the game. Two of their attackers were in France's box and they BOTH fell down at nearly the exact same time and neither was remotely close to being touched by an opposing player. Both of them should have gotten cards for such a blatant dive, IMO.

Poor sportsmanship? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...all the English have done since their loss is blame everything on the "cheating" Portuguese and Ronaldo, boo Ronaldo for the entirety of today's match, and not accept any of their own responsibility for their defeat. I may not be as in tune with the game as you guys, but I know poor sportsmanship when I see it, and I am seeing it far more in the English than in the Portuguese.

Yeah, Portugal were aweful, absolutely dreadful and im glad they went out. It doesn't change the fact that he dived. the challenge didnt knock him over or stop him - so he paused and dived like superman.

The first time I saw it, I agreed with you. But the replay on the BBC news from the other angle made, what looked like a pause, from the back, look more like a genuine loss of balance. I still think he played the fall extra dramatically but have changed my mind on the validity of the penalty.

Yeah, Bakedbeans, you seem to be outnumbered in this opinion of yours. Look at were his foot lands after he was tackled, as opposed to where it should have landed for him to make the stride forward after the ball. There's no way he could've continued his play after that intervention.

Didn't get to see the match and I haven't seen any footage of the penalty, but it'll be great to see ZZ go one last, time.

Something wrong with that? At least the England team kept there "poor" sportsmanshiop OFF the pitch, the Portugese were without a doubt the most apalling team of the entire tournament.

I know we are getting into "dead horse" territory but the more I watch the link you provided the more I wonder how you can be so steadfast in believing that there was no foul committed. The Portugal defender completely missed the ball and kicked Henry's right foot (his only foot on the ground) out from under him. That's a foul. Now, you can argue that Henry could've tried harder to stay on his feet to play thru the foul, betting the ref would signal "play on", but why run the risk of "playing thru" a foul in the box and losing possession when a PK is an almost guaranteed score?

Going thru it frame by frame actually makes it easier to see what's going on. You clearly see that Henry's right foot is kicked out from under him. He plants his left foot, which is way outside his body, and when he's able to get his right foot under him again he's already leaning hard to his right and his right foot is basically under his left hip and planted at an awkward angle ('cause his momentum is carrying him forward but he's wanting to go to his right after the ball). Even if he's able to bring is left leg around he's just going to be ineffectively stumbling after the ball anyway so he decides to fall and take the foul as opposed to trying to play thru the foul. Which there is nothing wrong with, because there was a foul.
