Does anyone know why the later transmission releases have

dropped displaying the availability of the torrent parts in the progress bar?

dropped displaying the status of selected downloads? In the earlier releases it was possible to double click on the torrent and the size and percentage information would change if i was downloading only a few parts.

Well I ran Azureus and was quite amazed how fast my downloads went. A LOT faster than Transmission.

Only reason I still use Transmission is because it quits, unlike Azureus.

Exactly, I don't mind the, "does Azureus ever quit?" problem, transmission is so slow (downloading) for me I can't be bothered using it.

Ive downloaded a file with the new Transmission that lets you set connections, I was pleased, it stayed above 100k after being on for about 30 minutes. It was going really slow until I set the max connections to 500, then it jumped up. It wasnt a majorly public file though, I'll need to try and download something with a ton of leechers for the real test

edit: Just encountered a torrent that downloads fine in Az at 160k/s but cant even connect to the tracker in Transmission. Banned? Most likely.

Just curious, has anyone tried BitTorrent 6.0 for Mac?

What I'd really like, optimally, is a client that has a small footprint, extreme robustness and tons of features like uTorrent, but a nicer UI. Transmission sounds like what I'm looking for, but from what I understand it is still banned from many trackers (due to old behavior where it... used to? ignore request cooldown time) and it doesn't support DHT, which will emaciate bandwidth on many public torrents.

From the screenshots, it looks like BT 6.0 is sort of that uTorrent Mac port that's been awaited for a long time. I wonder about the so called DNA "spyware" thing, though, it sounds like unnecessary crap like the Vuze that was added to Azureus. I couldn't even find a review of it on google, though, so I guess it's very unpopular...

I used Azureus and now I'm on the latest update of Transmission.

Overall, the advanced features of Az. was great when I used it but then again, I don't miss it...

Granted I haven't used Azureus since more than 6 months ago.

I have both a Windows and OS X machine so I have both uTorrent and Transmission. uTorrent is better than Transmission by huge leaps and bounds...I wish they would port it over to OS X. I get far better speeds and more features with uTorrent, and it's a miraculously small program and is not a system hog at all. I've also used Azureus until I discovered the wonders of uTorrent...and Tomato Torrent, which is absolutely terrible if you're in need of any features.

Transmission 1.02 is out. I'm sure you'll like some of the new GUI features that I've had in my nightlies. In addition they made some more changes to keep it from crashing routers.

Help with transmission speeds

I rarely get speeds above 20KB/s when using transmission. There are alot of variables involved so I am not sure what is the cause of my slow download speeds. Comcast is my ISP. Claims 6MB/s downloads/ I have an apple 802.11n airport extreme router, and a macbook running OSX 10.4.11. I have the latest version of transmission 1.02 (4794) (released yesterday). Older version use to crash my airport extreme if IPv6 was not set to local. Transmission is very compatible with the airport extreme router and automatically forwards the ports usually around 52xxx. So if my ports are good is it the specific torrents health? Although I rarely get speeds above 20KB/s for the larger torrents. Smaller audio torrents get me into the 50+KB/s range. So maybe it is the specific torrent. Or is it transmission and the lack of trackers. How can I get these 100KB/s speeds some of you transmission users are getting. Any ideas would be appreciated. For what its worth I like the simple UI of transmission and don't need any more features as I only have at max 5 transfers/seeds at once. I am tempted to try another client as I have only used Transmission.

What is this file you speak of?

Just started using Transmission. Works great.
Once I have the video file though, how do I play it?
(Newby here.....)

Glad I searched before adding a new thread. phew! would've hated to be called a 'noob'.. the horror!
Anyways, I was curious to see what people used as like many of you, i find azureus to be a bit on the podgy side. Just found though that you can cut all that Vuze crap out and get it to load straight into advanced mode, meaning no additional mem/cpu usage! Made everything much less clunky, still obviously a Java app but doesn't take a fortnight to close now and actually feels usable!
I did try Transmission for a while (about a year ago so i imagine there's been significant improvement) it's definitely lighter-weight and more user-friendly but I could never get it to run as fast as Azureus and I do use selective downloads/plugins etc. so for now at least i'll stick with it.

I use Transmission myself, as it's lightweight and integrates nicely into Mac OS X. However, I do find it slower than Azureus.

Man, is it even POSSIBLE to somehow rebuild Azureus into a native Cocoa app? Has anyone ever tried something like this?

How about rTorrent? Is it fast downloading? Isn't Transmission built over libTorrent? Is Transmission's implementation just absolutely horrible compared with rTorrent's?

I started off using Transmission, and really liked it - until I got Acquisition which pulls double-duty as a P2P client (Limewire/gnutella) *and* downloads torrents as well.

Has this been explained yet? What's a nightly? Why is it better than standard Transmission.

I'm not the type of person that uploads or downloads 200 files at a time.. I use it pretty standardly... a movie here, and album there, a season of TV over there, maybe some porn up there etc etc...
New builds of Transmission are actually done a little more often then nightly. That's a link to the latest unstable release of Transmission. It's a use at your own risk for new features release. I haven't had a problem with running it.

^ oh thanks.

Am I the only one who has to decrease the speed of Transmission?

If i start downloading more than 150k my internet gets sluggish as all hell. I only set it for unlimited speed when i'm downloading overnight.

On a somewhat related topic, i just downloaded 22gigs of Thundercats DVD rips! 80 episodes! Edit- 130 Episodes!!!

It depends a lot on your available connection speed. I find that setting my upload to 40% of its maximum is the best bet if you're going to web browse and torrent. If you know what your connection speed is you can set Transmission to only use a portion of your bandwidth to maximize productivity.

If you'd used file sharing sites such as RapidShare or MegaUpload then the episodes would of been half the size 11GB. Torrent sucks
