Haven't watched anything past the fourth episode. Highlighting on @ucfgrad93's comments, I've found most shows being fairly... oh, what's the word... bland the first season with stuff picking up near the end. I'm not sure what the initial run on the show is, but FOX has always made an effort in airing sci-fi shows.

I've got a tidy backlog of shows to catch up on.

Very interesting. Any decent or intriguing plots?

I agree this was good, it was hard hitting, and now that I’m acclimated to the humor integrated into the drama, I can live with that. Damn it, that is a new leg!!

The challenging thing about the Krill, it’s basically kill or be killed. The Union will need an amazing angle if they ever hope to achieve peace with them. Millions might have to die to achieve it.
This may be controversial, but I was thinking based on the attitude of the Krell, if this was going to be all out war, it might have been better to kill the female and kids or to hold them in indefinite detention, so as to prevent them from figuring out how two humans managed to take over their destroyer.

Yeah but in the spirit of Sci-Fi continuing stories, the kid being let go knows where Earth is and we have a captured Krill Destroyer - this leads to future episodes... ;)

They showed the repeat of episode one last night.

Is the season only six episodes in length or is it a split season with the second six episodes later this year ?

New episode next week. There are times when weeks are skipped as far as new episodes go, for one reason or another, especially when it comes to network TV.

I also liked this episode. As for the humor, I'd prefer if the writers were a bit more selective about where and how they use it. For example, some of the dialog between Ed/Gordon and the Krill crew was funny, but would have given their identities away. But the opening scene with Bortus was very amusing without being too unrealistic.

Let's hope that the series doesn't become overwhelmingly just social-message issues... would be nice to just have a regular Sci-Fi episode.

Looks like the next episode takes place on the proverbial "Earth-like planet and culture" and I hope it is not the Sci-Fi cliche where everyone on it acts like a b**ho** (or I guess in Seth's case, d***). ;)

There's usually a break in the TV schedule around this time of year. If I'm right then it's likely they're holding off for Sweeps Weeks. They took a one week hiatus last week with a new episode airing tonight, Thursday. Episodes resume until the 16th of November, by then another 1 or 2 week hiatus comes into play. TV is effectively dead during Thanksgiving and the week after in most cases. No reason to run a new episode when viewership will be down thus affecting ad rates.

Looks like they're balancing filming and editing and making sure the more interesting episodes are during the two viable weeks in November, plus the last week of October when there's more people watching TV due to the weather cool down.

Season 1 Ep 7 Majority Rule- This episode was ambitious, had potential as a serious theme, the idea of a pure democracy was intriguing, but was undercut by several issues, primarily Lt. LaMarr dancing with the statue seemed totally out of place if this team was supposed to remain undercover, with complete unfamiliarity with the culture, how they thought they could interact with the locals to determine the fate of their anthropologists unnoticed, the ease at which they obtained identify voter buttons which they were oblivious to at first, there seemed to be several opportunities to whisk LaMarr away to safety, and the solution to save him from correction was shallow and far fetched. I guess this is what happens when there is a requirement to inject comedy into what would have been a decent sci-fi episode.

You summarized it fairly well, especially with that last sentence. I liked the nods to TOS and TNG in this episode, but the somewhat overused humor and inconsistencies related to it were a little more evident in this episode than some other ones and kind of undermined it. I'm still quite happy with The Orville and ups and downs aren't really unusual for first seasons, just hoping that things will be more up than down and that the show will be renewed.

I thought it was awesome and done very well for the proverbial "Earth-Like Culture" Sci-Fi Episode. I've seen so many already.

Dancing with the statue - that, to me, was because they felt "comfortable" in this Earth-like culture and forgot they were on an entirely different one. Not to mention the whole "Historical Figure" statue debate going on in the US...

They thought they could interact with the culture because it is Earth-Like (like in many other shows). Voter buttons = obvious in any culture. And it is obvious there's an "underground" for badges for those that want to get rid of the ones with too many "negatives".

The solution to save him from correction was going to be pretty obvious in Sci-Fi - hack the system (done so many times, like ID4...)

I thought the comedy was perfect.

I think this episode will "press a lot of people's buttons" because Seth decided to make the Earth-Like Culture based on Social Media...

This is my pet peeve - I hate when people are always holding up their phones to "record stuff" and having to do a Thumbs Up/Down....

I thought this was an awesome episode.

Many in today's society are going to hate this one.

Cudos to Seth for "going there"...

In other words great for self directed, comedic social commentary, but not so good for sci-fi. :) That’s all I’ll say.

Shows do this all the time.

Another good one is "South Park", S14E4, "You Have 0 Friends"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Have_0_Friends

This is much better than the in-your-face SJW that ST: Discovery is pushing...

The next Oville episode is the proverbial "Shuttle Malfunction/Crash" - should be interesting to see how this show handles it...

So is that also to say that this season is just 13 episodes long (and the typical "back 9" order isn't there)?

I mean I would probably be happy with it being more of a cable-like show with smaller seasons.

Due to the high cost of each episode, networks tend to make those shows only around 13 episodes a season long...

I'd be happy with 3 seasons, 13 episodes each with the final being a double-length

1 - Introduction
2 - Adventures!
3 - A season long story
Followed by movies and spin-offs in The Orville Universe.

Fox needed a Sci-Fi series franchise (all other networks have one) - looks like this is it!!!

Hopefully if they can pull off more interesting stories and not end up going down the path of trying too hard to make everything funny in one way or another, they can perhaps last beyond 3 seasons (especially if they are of the shorter length).

Cupid's Dagger made me laugh. :D For those who have not seen it, a pheromone onboard the ship causes the Captan, XO, and the Doctor to make Love their first priority over pressing matters. :D

One of my most favorite Sci-Fi episodes... :)

"Firestorm" another great episode - the proverbial Sci-Fi "Lieutenant's trial" - totally great they way Seth handled it. Should've been the Halloween episode... ;)

For me, best so far is "Krill".
