I’ve stopped watching. Just couldn’t get through the first two episodes of the second season.
I only watched S1E1 and had enough.
Not my kind of thing. Found it ridiculous. Sorry.
Too much series to watch anyway, not all is interesting.

Yeah I'm trying to create a connection where there really isn't one, lol.

Agreed - especially some little forced or severely awkward I feel bad just watching. lol.
The latest episode did have some fairly good humorous moments, I dare say even Family Guy type of ones. All while exploring a fairly intriguing concept that some of the better TNG episodes are remembered for as well.

YES. Yes. Definitely. I am getting that as well. Wooo hoo, I'm not the only one. :)

I haven't watched the latest episode yet, I can't wait to watch that this weekend.

The last one I saw was the one where they had first contact with the Julius month people :p.

Just got done watching the latest episode. To quote my wife: "Wow, that episode was great, how do they keep doing this?" (doing great episodes).

Yes, I see the TNG reference. Tasha Yar and Data. They hit the nail on the head with this one. As a huge trekkie and TNG fan (Data is my favorite character), this episode was A+ 10/10. Still smiling :D.

While I find the humor kind of oddly placed at times still, the whole scene with Isaac trying to force a break-up was quite good and very Family Guy-esque.

S2:E5 All the World is a Birthday Cake- A first contact episode. Good serious episode, although the ending was simplistic. I love the notion that in the Union, your reputation is your currency. And quite a difference from Star Trek where it takes light speed travel to deserve contact. Without spoiling it, something happens and 2 crew members are jailed with life sentences. I would have rescued them without question, maybe even kicked the President’s butt. :):)

Please state which episode so I don’t have to look it up! Maybe the one above! :p

I completely disagree with the Union’s first contact protocol, I would have kicked their butts. :)

TNG: The Naked Now https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/The_Naked_Now_(episode) 1x03 --- Data held it as a special memory even much later in the series.

That episode that you mention reminds me of Voyager. I was so mad at Janeway for putting the Prime Directive in front of her crew. Out of all the captains I disagreed with her the most, but she was a strong captain. I was surprised to see TOS delved into the prime directive several times as well - my wife and I are going through TOS.

They don't call it the second or tertiary directive. It is PRIME. Everything else comes after it.

They did it again - another great episode. Seth is really hitting it out of the park with these consistently. The new security officer really settles in this last episode.

Still not quite sure what to think of her as for some reason she feels a little off in terms of fitting in, even after this last episode. Might be simply be because she is new, and replaces an established and liked character, but I'm not quite sure just yet. I guess I'll see how it goes.

Agreed, that feeling is still there, but my question as to whether or not she can act as part of the crew is answered. She doesn't seem as comfortable as the other characters yet, but this is what, her second episode? I definitely liked the last security officer better (no offense to this actress) - but I can see that changing over time easily.

Was really hoping that episode would end in a happy way. lol. Very interesting spin on things. Happy to see the captain and the first officer back together, they make a great couple. My wife told me that the flower was Bruce Willis. LOL. That had to be an interesting scene having him do the flower. https://comicbook.com/startrek/2019/02/15/the-orville-bruce-willis-cameo-katrudian-flower/

Love how they had a character building episode yet had a good technology focus for part of it (the shield design). Really hope they continue to do that - this is what made Star Trek really great for me, in-between all the character development there was a lot of talk about technology, science, and what not.

What’s interesting is the silly quotient has been dialed way down for serious themes. Now, I can’t say any of these serious themes are completely original, but they are enjoyable to watch.

Wow! The last episode wow!!!! Lol absolutely amazing. I did not expect this seriousness or magnitude. Damn!

Yeah, that took a more serious and even darker turn.

Last episode "Identity, pt 1"? OMG.... OMG.... OMG.....

Seeing the "red eyes" and being the Sci-Fi Buff that I am, I should've figured it out - BG Cylons, but I still didn't...

Yeah, the latest episode was awesome! I kinda saw it coming, early on, but was still amazed that they went there! That's what you get when you have people like Brannon Braga involved. Can't wait for Pt. 2!

The rumor is that Isaac will do something (so that he will stay on show) along the lines of saving Earth and irradiating his race so that he is the only one left... I don't think they should get rid of this race so they can return later to fight other enemies and more plotlines...

I've been more or less assuming something like that will happen, as far as Isaac changing and helping. We'll see. So far it's starting to kind of feel like his race is sort of like the Borg, where he would sort of be like 7 of 9.

Exactly how I view it. He does have blue lights / eyes after all. :)

I don't think Borg as they are partly Bio and they assimilate. More like Cylons or Daleks that just want to exterminate other life forms... but there are references to them

The Orville continues to get better each week. I don't think it's all due to ratcheting down the sophomoric humor, though that helps. I'm at the point where I'm looking forward to new episodes. As for the two-parter:
Man vs. machine is certainly not a new theme in sci-fi. Star Trek had The Borg, Terminator had Skynet, and so on. I hope the writers came up with an inventive way to get the ship and biological life forms out of jeopardy, like finding a way to merge a human consciousness with Isaac or another Kaylon.

Yeah, Holy Crap, I did not see that coming and it’s a 2 parter so it’s not yet resolved. I just hope it’s not a simplistic resolution.

“Identity”
Wow!!! Best Episodes to date. Some gravely important lessons to learn!
That red-eyed Kaylon “logic” has been tried before.
