At the moment, my PowerBook is a router. I'm testing a few configurations on the PB while I wait for USPS to deliver the right cable to setup the Soekris net5501. Performance and range are OK, but I haven't really stress tested it.

The most important item in that picture of yours is the coffee cup! :D

So I have my Dell Latitude E6410 (2010) with Win 7 Pro on it, and I wanted to put Windows 10 Insider Preview on it to make sure the tradition to Windows 10 would be smooth and to make sure nothing breaks, sure enough, here I am reinstalling Windows 7 Pro in order to get Win 10 pro because the entire thing broke. FML lol

Here's a picture. I have to use an external Disk Drive because the internal one doesn't like my Win 7 disk too much...

On top of the stack of HDDs and the disk drive, which both are usually hooked up to my HP, is my secondary monitor for the HP desktop. It has been running Windows 10 for a few months now and has come a pretty long way. With how bad the performance was in the Beta, I figured there was no way that it would be released on July 29, but the last 2 betas feel like a full operating system. Meanwhile, El Cap has felt that way to me since Beta 1 :p

I don't know if I'd go that far; both OSs have had their share of issues. Say what you will about Windows 10, it never disabled any of my USB ports or stopped me from syncing to my iPod (both of which weren't fixed until El Capitan Beta 3).

My iPod Nano won't sync as well, but I figured it was just because it was old. Anyway, I felt like El Cap was pretty stable in my testing. Everything is going to have some hiccups. I'm on iOS 9 and this train wreck is almost as bad as iOS 7 was, but I don't care. I like to ride out every beta for anything from day one to the last day

Ok so let me start up a new topic in here, does anyone watch Halt and Catch Fire on AMC? Its this great show about a computer company in the 80s. In the first season, they set out to build a portable "laptop" computer, in the second season, they make a new company that is focused on developing a gaming network. I absolutely love this show and highly recommend it.

Thanks for the tip-off on this - half way through season 1 at the moment. I thought it was going to be a bit nerdy but the tech side is balanced really well.

No problem. I had no clue what to expect when I started watching it. I knew it was going to be tech oriented from the trailers, but I didn't know anything else about it beyond that. I'm all caught up now and can't wait for the next episode on Sunday :)

Well, the Soekris net5501 router is up and running smoothly, thanks in part to testing on the PowerBook. I'm very happy with how it came out.

One nice thing about using the PowerBook as a router is the built in battery in case of power outage, though I would go with a real UPS if I was going to do this long term.

Anybody have any old Windows 3.1 stuff? I'm going to start gaming on my Omnibook 425 again, bring back the good stuff.

There weren't really any Windows 3.1 games that I recall, apart from the obvious solitare and mahjong type. Any proper game at the time ran via DOS. Not sure what could run on a 16 colour greyscale display anyway!

I'm pretty sure I still have the entire set of 3.1 install floppies. IIRC the last one was corrupt, which meant you had the pleasure of sitting there churning through the install process like a champ until you reached the very last floppy.

I remember seeing a huge list not too long ago.

It's been a long time since I used a floppy!

------------

Picked up a mighty mouse today for $6, pretty excited about it.

I'm sure I do and all mine work. I've also got Ps 3.0 on floppy and they all work

I even have a few sets of 2.x which all work, too. Fun fact, some German OEMs, like Vobis and Highscreen bundled Windows 3.11 on CD with their computers, which solved the problem of delicate floppies giving up the ghost as they tend to do.

You could just copy all the Windows 3.1x files into a single directory from the floppies and it would happily install from there. Disk 7 onwards was just printer drivers anyway IIRC.

Still got mine backed up on CD somewhere. Also backed up the DOS 6/6.22/Win3.1x floppies as disk images.

Mine were a set DOS + Windows they came with the computers that were part of my dad's tech lab maybe I'll try to install it in vbox
