This is the first post I've made from my eMac in two or three months - I finally got around to getting it back in running order, for those of you whom know of my recent issues with it. I actually gave up on Leopard a few months back, and instead reverted it back to Tiger; absolutely no problems installing it or updating it, unlike Leopard. But, it wouldn't connect to my wireless network to do the updates (of course, because it needed an update for the newer router.) And the actual router isn't anywhere near where I use my eMac; it's in an entirely different building, in fact. It just took me until today to get the motivation to lug this 50 lb. beast to a wired connection. :p

I'm actually quite used to Windows 7 on my laptop now, but nonetheless it feels good to be "home." :)

I can't wait for Fall Tv to start up; Empire, South Park, Simpsons, Last Man On Earth, Amazing Race, the new Muppets show on ABC, Person of Interest, Black List... This is going to be a great TV season!

Also, does anyone watch Modern Family? I want to start watching it, but idk where to start watching it. Any suggestions?

Tomorrow I am moving two of my macs and my server to my closet. I'm building a shelf with power and a switching hub for Ethernet.

Using Netatalk configs I got my 'nix server shared over the network (AFP) with an Xserve icon. Fun times.

I say we revive this thread... It was so nice to just have a relaxed thread to talk about stuff that doesn't need an entire new thread dedicated to it!

Sounds good.

Anyone here tried 256Mb 72pin ram sticks in a first generation Power Mac (6100/7100/8100)?

Well, the Soekris net5501 router is up and running smoothly, thanks in part to testing on the PowerBook. I'm very happy with how it came out.

One nice thing about using the PowerBook as a router is the built in battery in case of power outage, though I would go with a real UPS if I was going to do this long term.

What is your experience with the Soekris router ? What do you use it for ?

Have been checking them since they first came on the market , about the time I bought OpenBSD 3.5 from kd85.com :)

Great to have you back!
Er, know anything about using 256Mb 72pin ram sticks in a first generation Power Mac (6100/7100/8100)?

I finally figured out how to expand the StuffIt file for Classilla on OS 9 today... Took me a while, I know. I had to open StuffIt Expander first, then open the file.

Anyway, this is being posted from my Blue Dalmatian iMac G3 running Mac OS 9.2.1. :p

Been tinkering today with the PMG4 400MHz Yikes. Have not been able to boot thru the optical drive. Tiger install freezes after the apple logo and does not show the desktop. I can't even reinstall OS9. Sucks! My brain tells me to throw it, my heart is telling me to keep and try to fix it.

Try making a USB installer, it will be extremely slow over USB 1.1, but will get the job done!

Coming from personal experience with my Power Mac G3... Try a different mouse. My Apple Pro Mouse's cord I had was fraying and it caused the system to hang in Mac OS 9.

Other than that, have you reset PRAM and NVRAM?

Anyone else watch the Jim Gaffigan Show or Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee? I just started watching Jim Gaffigan's show and it's absolutely hilarious.

Nope.

So, tell us about these 'Humans'.

Well, the show isn't really about humans, LOL. It actually takes place in the distant future where humans finally perfected synthetic robots that look and act like humans. These "synths" as they are officially known as have become a standard household and business appliance, like a cell phone or computer is today. They had become so popular, that laws were made that pertained to them and Synth charging stations could be found anywhere. More and more, people are buying synths to replace human jobs. The main plot of the TV show is that several synths have a special trait about them that makes them have human senses and be self-aware, something that should not exist. The Synth authorities set out to capture and destroy these special synths before they use their special powers to do harm to humans.

Out of a courtesy to those who may want to watch it, I will not spoil the events that take place in the show. It can be watched on Amazon Instant Video, and I'm sure some places on the inter-webs have it available as well...

Anyone watch Humans on AMC?
I watched it last year when it aired in the UK. Very impressive for a low budget show. It's actually set in the near future, so the context is very familiar (especially if you live in the UK) - I'd say it's far better, more intelligent and engaging than most films attempting to describe what true AI may look like.
