You just showed a bunch of stats that were one nil, leaving out all the high scoring matches. I just filled in the blanks.

Other than that none... Man, I don't even like Chelsea! Just had a slow day at work...

Henry ends doubts with pledge to stay at Arsenal

ARSENAL fans have had little to cheer about this season, but will wake this morning to the news that Thierry Henry has committed his future to the club. Such is the Frenchman’s importance that his signature is worth more than any trophy.
After refusing to discuss a new contract with the club, Henry had been expected to join Barcelona in the summer, but has had a dramatic change of heart. The Spanish giants have been tracking him for some time, with Joan Laporta, the club’s president, recently revealing that they would do everything in their power to sign him, but his incessant phone calls to the player’s agent appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

As Arsenal prepare to move into their new Emirates Stadium, Henry’s renewed commitment will ensure that they approach the future with confidence. “The truth is I love this club and I’ve made my mind up to stay,” Henry says in The Sun today. “I can say to all my fans and the people who care about me, I want to lead the team out in the new stadium.”

Henry has only 1½ years left on his contract but will sit down with Arsenal’s board in the next few weeks to discuss a new deal. Peter Hill-Wood, the club’s chairman, has previously stated that they are willing to make him the highest-paid player in their history and it should not take long to hammer out the details of a new £100,000-a-week contract.

Henry’s future has been the talk of English football in recent weeks, with everyone seemingly chipping into the debate as to whether he should stay or go, and the dilemma has even affected his own form. The 28-year-old has been a shadow of his effervescent self in recent weeks, shrugging his shoulders with seeming indifference as his side have struggled, but revealed that the support of Arsenal fans had helped him to come through a difficult time.

After reaching a career-defining decision, he can expect to hear even more from them in the coming weeks. “I’m still only 28, but when I see the fans and the way they talk to me it helped make my decision,” he said. “They didn’t boo me or make life difficult for me on the pitch.

“We need to move on now. I’m staying here to build one of the best teams in Europe. We need to be competitive. The club said it was up to me and now it’s up to them. I’ve made my decision and I can’t say more than that.”

Such was Arsenal’s anger at Barcelona’s incessant pursuit that they were considering reporting the club to Fifa, but Henry insists he never met or spoke with anyone from the club. “There was a lot of ridiculous speculation,” he said. “But the truth is this — I never spoke with or met with a single person from any other club at any time. If I do commit myself for life I hope the club and the board will — the same way as I do.”

Above all, Henry’s decision, announced on the eve of the club’s FA Cup third-round tie at home to Cardiff City, represents a triumph for Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager. The Frenchman has endured a difficult season as Chelsea conquer all before them but, after selling Patrick Vieira, Henry’s willingness to sign a new contract will reinforce his belief that his young side can challenge for trophies in the coming years. “Yes, I would like Thierry to stay with us for the rest of his career,” Wenger said. “I want him to be part of our team. I am confident we can achieve that.”

There was more good news for Wenger yesterday when Robin van Persie, the Holland forward, signed a new contract that will keep him at Arsenal until 2011. Jens Lehmann, the Germany goalkeeper, and Robert Pires, the midfield player, are expected to follow suit, albeit on much shorter deals.

After 18 months at Highbury, Van Persie, 22, had no hesitation in extending his deal. “I’ve really enjoyed it here and it was never a financial thing,” he said.

Can't wait to get inside the new stadium....

Are you guys or Arsenal fans generally going to call it 'The Emirates Stadium' or 'Ashburton Grove'?

I can't bring myself to call it the Emirates Stadium. I refer to it as Ashburton Grove. I may get used to Emirates after everyone starts using it (TV, Radio, Internet, Programmes).

What do you mean "guys or Arsenal fans"... can't we be both?? :D

But, seriously.... I hate it being called "The Emirates Stadium". I would like it always being called "Ashburton Grove".

EDIT:
It will be hard to forget "Highbury"....
So, now instead of going left out of the tube station, we go right (but it's so close!)

You guys = you two Gooners who are on the boards right now.
Arsenal fans generally = the general masses.

General masses here on the MacRumors boards.... ;) Somehow there are quite a few Gunners around here! :)

What do you "outsiders" think of the "Emirates" name? I know lots of Stadiums nowadays are named after a sponsor (Reebok, JJB.. you name it), but I personally find it irritating. What if the contract ends? Does the stadium get a new name?
IMHO a name should be used which will be forever linked to the stadium.

Well, we play at the Kingston Communications Stadium, which just gets referred to everywhere as the KC. It wasn't too popular at first but people are used to it now. The ground is technically called The Circle, if the contact ends then I would imagine it would revert back to that.

One issue when a name for the ground was decided was that we share it with one of the City's Rugby League teams, so any name had to be neutral to both sports.

Whats happening with Hull? They're sitting back against Villa - not the most deadly team in the Premier League.:D

Well, we're not exactly the most deadly team in the Championship at the moment...

To be fair, Villa probably deserved their win today – but we certainly didn't embarrass ourselves by any means. It's typical that we lost to a deflected goal, we seem to be letting a hell of a lot of those in this season.

And we always lose one-nil when we're on the TV! :D

Anyway, now we need to concentrate on our league form. Rumour is (and this is a rumour forum, after all!) that Falkirk striker Darryl Duffy is due to sign for us early next week. Hopefully he'll weigh in with some of the goals we've been lacking so far this campaign!
