Mod's note

Hi all

Just as a heads-up to all of the substantial community that enjoys this thread; we're planning to close it at the end of the English football season, after the FA Cup final, I guess.

The reason why is because when threads become too long, they upset the servers and make it awkward for newcomers to join in.

So, from now on, we'll start an English Football Season 08-09 thread, for instance, for each season... after all, we don't want Jaffa Cake to be excluded. ;)

I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.

Cheers :)

1) Wembley - England vs. Brazil 2007. Great stadium with some fantastic players on show.

2) Hull City Vs. Leeds Utd 2005-06 season, Hull struggling down at the bottom and the win helped keep the Tigers up.

3) Hull City vs. QPR 2006-07 season. Hull had battered QPR all day who where determined to waste time all game a grabbed a lucky 1-0 lead at half time. City then have about 90% of the game and score 2 goals in injury time to beat the little cheats :p What a game, what a feeling....

I think having a English football thread is far more appropriate

Old Trafford – we went along to see England's final World Cup Warm up against Jamaica back in 2006.

But can I turn this question around and ask people – what's the smallest ground you've ever watched football at? ;)

2) What is the biggest game (Most important, of course) you've been to?
Hmm, a tricky one. I really don't know. Different games have been important in different ways over the last few years in particular, with us having had a couple of promotions and a couple of relegation scraps...

3) What is your best memory of a game you've been to?
I'm going to agree with R.Youden on that Hull-QPR game. All match I'd been getting increasingly frustrated – losing is one thing, but losing to a team who spent the whole game time wasting and generally being dirty... it's the sort of thing that really gets to you. But then Saint Stuart popped up with the late equaliser, and it was fantastic. We might have settled for a point, but the sense of injustice the crowd had been feeling manifested itself as a single minded determination to get the win and wipe the smug smiles from the grubby faces of QPR. The team responded and we Elliott scored again to clinch the three points and send the cheating Londoners away empty handed, as the home support went delirious.

If you had to come up with an example of an event to illustrate the phrase 'cheats never prosper', that match would be it. Ace.

It gets the thumbs up from me and would have done even if I hadn't got a mention. ;)

As well as talk from outside the top flight, it also covers the domestic cups and English teams in Europe, so a good move I reckon. As for a closing date for this thread, might I suggest after the Football League play-off finals at the end of May? By that point, I think all domestic football matters should be settled and we'll know for certain which teams will be playing in which divisions and everything, setting us up nicely for the 08-09 thread and some pre-season transfer discussion. :)

as a wednesday/spurs fan(in that order) it's good for me. Wednesday doesn't seem likely to be promoted to the prem any time soon. kinda awkward for me to post about them in here...;) and as is obvious by some of the above post's i don't get a lot to talk about with spurs....lol :apple:

I vote for a different name, though!
I like "The Premier League Thread!" best :)

what about some poor bloke in huddersfield or swansea? they might feel left out! :p;):apple:

Can we ask again why this match wasn't chosen for live TV coverage? :(

Because Mansfield Middlesborough is the lesson in mediocrity that we all need.

Havent and Waterlooville singing "can we play you every week" :D

"I don't know what the highest number on the Richter scale is but this is pretty close to it"

Christie Park Morecambe, capacity of approximately 6400.

Yeah, a thread per season sounds good. Can we keep this one until the end of this season though?

Arsenal just scored, thats what I like to see... Lets knock any wind out of Newcastle's sails. ;) Come on the Havant!!

That was always the plan.

I would've thought that Arsenal would have come out all guns blazing after the Tottenham game, also heard that Adebayor has had a go at another team mate.

How does that work?

I'm a sucker for a real underdog...I find it more odd that people on 606 were happily crowing about the final scoreline being 6-0. Arrogant. As far as I'm concerned this season is over for Liverpool anyway (except for the Champions League).

I suspect the second half will be ugly for the non-leaguers because Rafa will surely send on Gerrard and Torres...but Oh, Liverpool, how could you give up two goals to a side 128 places down the ladder?...plus our new defensive signing Skrtel gives up an own goal.:(

EDIT: Liverpool on top, where they should be. Yossi Benayoun has a hat trick - an underrated player IMHO - he runs around as much as the useless Kuyt but actually scores goals.

I'm guessing the superior fitness of the Premier League players is tipping the balance.
