Tommy Smith didn't sub anyone until after Zenit scored

Who the hell is Tommy Smith???:D
After the way the first half went, I think Walter must have thought the same tactics as every other game would do, he must have thought Zenit would start panicking the longer the game went on but they stayed cool. Rangers should have put on Novo before the goal because they had nothing to loose, Zenit were always bound to score given their record.

What you mention about the Scots regarding hooliganism as an English problem is an interesting one....

I think your own media are the first to criticise you, hence this has been labeled the 'English Disease.' Football violence in Scotland is nothing new, but (at least since the 1980 riot at Hampden) until now it's been limited to sectarianism (fan v fan).

After this, the spotlight is going to be on Scotland for a while....

BBC said:
Eleven supporters have been charged with public order offences.

A further 11 Rangers fans, who were arrested, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Another 12 supporters of the Glasgow club were arrested and cautioned, and seven men, including one Zenit St Petersburg fan, were released without charge.

Up to 200,000 fans converged on Manchester before the game, the vast majority of whom did not have tickets.

So the 42 arrests have turned into just 11 charges. Are we perhaps making a bigger issue over this than necessary?

Indeed, as I mentioned in my post the media often pounces on news of any trouble with considerable relish.

Anyway, happier news – congratulations to Stockport County, who are Wembley bound after victory over Wycombe Wanderers this evening. Splendid stuff. :)

That was one seriously underpants changing second half. They were all over us!!

However, :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Wem-ber-ley!! Wem-ber-ley!!!

Wembley eh? Bit lardy-dah for Stopfordians, isn't it? :D
Not at all. There was a time (when I were a lad ;)) when Wembley was our little home from home. Sadly we never actually won at the old place. We're obviously hoping the Curse was lifted when they smashed those towers to bits :)

Well, we've never been before – not once, ever – so this is all virgin territory for us. We got our tickets today, we're not that far from the Royal Box so Miss Jaffa Cake is going to have to watch her language. :D
Not at all. Those royals are supposed to all be hardy Army types these days. I'm sure they've heard a lot worse :D

I've got to make a decision pretty quickly as to whether I can go or not. Things are a little difficult at present, but I'm hopefully going to be able to pull a few favours.

Have fun, I'll be cheering on Hull, like the rest of MR I'm sure. :) I've only ever been to the old Wembley.. when Arsenal played their home CL games there

Ta muchly. With the support of my fellow Macrumormongers, the Tigers surely cannot fail.

Everything is now arranged. Our transport darn sarf is now sorted, our coach leaves for the capital at 7.30am. We'll then meet up with my London-dwelling brother Cheese Cake for a pre-game pint, then head into the ground and cheer on as we clinch a famous promotion. Hurrah!

I love it when a plan comes together. :)

I've sat on this too long, but if there is a forum with Lord Blackadder and a bloke from Hull.....

Blackadder: I then leapt on the opportunity to test you. I asked if he'd been to one of the great universities: Oxford, Cambridge, or Hull.
Nurse Fletcher-Brown: Well?
Blackadder: You failed to spot that only two of those are great universities!
Nurse Fletcher-Brown: You swine!
Melchett: That's right! Oxford's a complete dump!

Joey Barton has been detained at her majesty's pleasure for six months for what the judge described as a "violent and cowardly act".

Barton, 25, was captured on CCTV in Liverpool on 27 December 2007 punching one man 20 times before an attack which left a teenage boy with broken teeth.

...

Barton had drunk 10 pints of lager and five bottles of lager during the night, before going to a McDonald's restaurant on Church Street.

Ten pints followed by a burger and a punch-up. I fine example of a 'professional' athlete.

Coincidence that this happen in the summer break

The guy is a thug through and through, he shouldn't be allowed to play for England ever again.

He shouldv'e face much harsher punishment for the attack where he stubbed out a cigar in someones eye.

I would be glad to see the FA ban him for life.

I hope the victims sue him for everything they can get. Nasty piece of work that one.

BTW, my Wembley ticket is in the Pink section. How very dare they? ;)

We all know about famous modern managers refusing to speak to television stations because of perceived wrongs in their coverage - but what about Stockport boss Jim Gannon? He, reportedly, is not cooperating with Sky before the club's play-off League Two play-off final against Rochdale because of a nine-month customer relations dispute over his defective Sky box.
