just wanna say lads...look out for our new looker, Dirk Kuyt  . he made a great first impression (albeit as a sub) against the bubbles today and looks like he'll score a ton!
He's a good player, there's no doubt about that – as ever though, there's always the question of how well a foreign player will handle moving to English football, but I think Kuyt is more than capable of making the transition.

yeah, i wasn't sure what to think of the guy having known nowt about him 'til the WC, when he didnt really impress (me, anyway). I think he was over-hyped prior to the WC. But, having seen his performance the other day, maybe there is something very special there. it's not often i get excited enough to be looking forward to the next game just so i can watch the guy play!

Just booked tickets for Arsenal Everton this morning. Its ages away though - end of October. :( Also coming up soon is Arsenal Porto (end of Septemberish) which I'll get tickets for, and Liverpool and Tottenham (mid november/early december respectively). :D

Something to look forward too. :)

Oooh, looks like you and Mitty will have to battle it out! Sweet.

I wish I was close enough to make it to a match while I'm here in Europe. The only match I've been to is OGC Nice, here at the Stade de Ray. Not exactly Emirates stadium :p

I'm not terribly optimistic about Arsenal's chances at the moment. :p

Haha.. the new stadium is very nice.. thats all I will say. :) I warmed to it a lot when I was there.. umm.. 6 days ago, for the evening game. Felt much more finished than at DB's testimonial.

Forgive my inexperience at the Premiership level, but....

Is it normal to stockpile four high-level strikers on one team? Now that Spurs have Mido back, isn't this too many strikers competing for two spots? While Keane played very well off the bench last year, it seems like he needs more minutes to me. And why make Berbatov fight for a starting spot when they just spent so much on him? Maybe Dafoe is on the block now?

I'd say it was fairly normal, yes. At Arsenal we have Henry, Adebayor, and van Persie. We are rumoured to have an interest in Tevez, and Walcott can also play as a striker.. so maybe 4, yeah. Last season we had Bergkamp aswell, so definitely 4. Another example - at Liverpool: Crouch, Kuyt, Bellamy and Garcia (im pretty sure he plays upfront :p).

That's right, it's by no means unusual. Any good manager will make sure that there's good competition for places – it makes players sharper and stops them getting complacent thinking their place in the team is assured. It's also important that each position has good cover for the inevitable injuries that will crop up.

For example, at City we've got six strikers in our squad plus another one rumoured to sign before the transfer window closes on Thursday – mind, you can't really describe all of them as being 'high-level'... :p ;)

Swap you Adebayor for one of them?

West Ham must be laughing all the way to the bank though – it's reckoned they've pocketed £3 million as a result of Carrick's sell-on clause. ;)

Nice.. in the same fashion we made a few million out of Pennant, when Liverpool bought him.

I don't think anybody predicted this happening

Hammers 'land Tevez & Mascherano'

Amazing really.. and I'm a bit scared of West Ham..

Arsenal have finally got Baptista, reports are saying now. Reyes swapped.. in a deal which *could* become permanent. Baptista should do better in the Premiership than Reyes did.

Not on the official site or on sky sports? got a link to the source of the reports?

Sky Sports News are reporting that William Gallas is currently undergoing a medical at Arsenal – his transfer to the Gunners is of course supposed to be part of the deal that would see Ashley Cole going the other way to Chelsea.

I'm especially enjoying Sky's countdown clock to the close of the transfer window. :D

It needs the '24' "beep-beep, beep-beep" to really work :D
