Indeed – it seems like Mr Lerner has been inspired by our very own aloofman and has taken an interest in our quaint little game.

How's he viewed by the Browns fans (Lerner I mean, not aloofman ;))?

I'm not a Browns fan, but I haven't heard of Lerner being especially loved or hated, as NFL owners go. I think it was his father that spearheaded getting the Browns back in Cleveland, then he inherited the team.

For those who don't know, the old Cleveland Browns were an NFL powerhouse in the 1950s and had only brushes with title contention after that, but had a strong, loyal fan base. In 1996, in an extremely unpopular move, longtime owner Art Modell moved the team to Baltimore and became the Ravens, but agreed to leave the old Cleveland Browns name behind. A new expansion team headed by the elder Lerner resumed the old name, colors and history. For Cleveland, losing the original Browns was a major trauma, but for other fans it's kind of like the Browns never left.

Based on this history, you might say that Lerner has experience with rabid fans and their obsession with past successes. So maybe that bodes well.

Charlton v Carlisle
Barnsley v M K Dons
Chesterfield v Man City
Sc*nthorpe v Aston Villa
Southend v Brighton
Brentford v Luton
Reading v Darlington
Birmingham v Wrexham
Rotherham v Norwich
Mansfield v Portsmouth

Ties are to be played in the week commencing 18 September.

Personally, I was hoping we'd get a side I've not seen play (I had my fingers crossed for Accrington Stanley :D), but I suppose I'll have to make do with watching us maul the monkey hangers.

From an Arsenal forum - worth a read, talking about our play at the moment.

The stupidity on this forum infuriates me almost as much as the result itself. When we win 3-0 against an average CL side, we are unstoppable and are sending a message to Chelsea, Man U., etc. When play just as well but fail to get a result against Villa and Citeh, we are suddenly rubbish. As some of the more rational posters have mentioned, this wasn't at all similar to the woeful away perrformances of last season.

Indeed it is worrying that we have throughly dominated two PL games yet only have a point to show for it. Henry is clearly in preseason form, but he is still the most likely to score for us. On another day, he would have had three goals and we would have cruised to victory.

I would have liked to see Rosicky more involved today, but he was very impressive when he did get involved. He had some absolutely sparkling moments, and I expect a lot more from him as he further acclimates to our style of play. Overall, a classy PL debut.

I absolutely love Hleb and have been one of his staunchest supporters, but he needs to diversify his play. He's one of the best dribblers I've seen in my lifetime (and I'm a pensioner by A-M standards), but he needs to release the ball quicker on our counterattacks. At our best, we play at such pace when counterattacking, with each player taking only a touch or two and then playing it forward. He tends to over-dribble on our counterattacks, allowing defenders to get back a bit more.

Also, he effortlessly beats defenders, but always cuts inside when he reaches the box. Just once I would like to see him take the ball to the endline, if only to keep defenders honest. It's as if he's allergic to the endline. That's one thing that Theo and Freddie provide: they mix it up on the wing, sometimes cutting inside, sometimes taking it to the line and crossing. Hleb would be unstoppable if he followed their example a bit more. And don't even get me started on his fear of shooting.

Theo is electrifying and I understand the hyperbolic enthusiasm, but he clearly benefits from coming on late when the opposition is tired. I'm not sure he would have quite the same impact as a starter. At this point he is the closest thing we have to a difference-maker off the bench. He will be a first-team regular, but not for another year or two. Let's try to keep a bit of perspective here.

As a team, we seem to have transitioned from a lethal counterattacking style to a more deliberate, possession-based, total football style. Despite the disappointing start to the season, we are playing some lovely football. If only we can add a bit more width and diversity, and re-discover the pace of our counterattack, we will be great again. We obviously need signings, but I don't see how Gallas, Mascherano, Torres, Platini, or Maradona would have solved our problems today. We just aren't been attacking with quite the same pace or purpose.

And Uriah ****** is a Championship-calibre referee at best.

Hey... you're not fobbing him off on us. ;)

Keep your chin up, XIII – at least your boys haven't got off to as bad a start as the Tigers.

Actually, currently, we both have one point.. :p

Meh, I ****ing hate this at the moment. Just need it to.. click. And I think we need to bring players in still. I just don't see Arsene doing it.

Yep – you from two games, us from five – still, at least we have a cup win. Against Tranmere. After extra time. :(

One thing we have in common though, we just need things to click. At times we're playing some nice football, but we're not getting anything from it. Even the Beast is having to feed off scraps at the moment...

Everton won! 2 - 0! In London! With 10 men for over an hour. Against Tottenham, which they've had so much trouble with in recent years (not won on White Heart Lane for 21 years).

This is a good (Satur)day... :D

I think I'll need to put this desktop into heavy rotation after a near perfect start to the new season:

Now if Andy Johnson doesn't deserve a place for England, who does? ;)

Same could be said about us and Dinamo Zagreb.. :p The situations are frighteningly similar.

We play far too nice football at the moment. God knows how many passes it is before anyone will take a shot, if ever.. We're always trying to score the perfect goal. Its infuriating.

And why, oh why, is Hoyte being played at left back, when every game that he's played there, he has been ****ing appalling. He lost us the game today. Flamini played at left back last season for about 10 games, including 2 games against Real Madrid, and 2 against Juventus, and was very solid - I had no complaints. Just please play Flamini there until Clichy is fit (or Cashley decides to stay, who knows).

Grr.

Any time... seriously, any time... ;) :D

Man U's form is a bit worrying though... I really hope they're not as good as they've looked so far... :(

And I'm not watching MOTD for the first time in a while.. Maybe if I'm over it more tomorrow I'll download it.

just wanna say lads...look out for our new looker, Dirk Kuyt  . he made a great first impression (albeit as a sub) against the bubbles today and looks like he'll score a ton!

for the first time in many a year, i'm very happy with all our new signings, "Fabio", "Speedy", "Nutter" and "Goonie". of course Danny Agger is a relatively new signing and scored a stuning goal today... scorchio!

when WE "click" you'd better watch out, we now have much needed pace, strikers, and wingers. some things we've desperately needed over the years. I'd hate to say it, but (We all dream of a team of) Carragher may have to battle for his spot when he's fit.

and what's with our 'backs scoring rediculously good goals!? what's next...Hyypia from 40yds anyone? Finnan with a diving header from the 18? worth a bet me thinks, as is LFC scoring from the (a) kickoff this season...

:D we'll beat Che$ki in the league, just gotta hope ManUre slip...

Sorry, that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard (that is also a ridiculous over statement). Carra is one of the best centerbacks in europe, our vice captain and a vital member of last seasons recordbreacking defence. He is also Rafa's blue eyed boy.

Wouldn't be surprised to see sami rested more though.

Dans goal was top class, I love bellamy - He is just superb, and tenacious and all round arsehole to play against.

obviously Carra's not going to be sitting out many games, but he will probably rejoin from the bench the first couple of games. Sami and Danny make a top pairing...i'd expect to see Carra play half an hour in the derby maybe, but i don't think Rafa will want to risk him any more than that.

of course, i missed out Pennant from my previous post...he's slotted in so seamlessly I forgot he was new! what a great acquisition he was!

Absolutely right! Hoyte looks out of his depth playing out of position at left-back and has looked extremely suspect under a simple long ball from right to left. Flamini was a sensation playing left-back last season, and it's mind-bending why he hasn't played there this season!?!

Also, why hasn't Wenger brought in extra cover in defence - with loss of Sol Campbell, the probably imminent loss of Ashley Cole, and the long-term injuries to Lauren, Senderos & Clichy, we're extremely light-weight at the back at the moment.

But who am I to question Arsene Wenger?
