In Carlisle news, we've signed big defender Harry Worley on loan from Chelsea for a month. He's 6 foot 3, which is a good start. Signed from Stockport in 2005 for £150,000, and was an unused sub in the Community Shield.

Any info, dynamicv?

Good result today. Cesc is amazing.

He's the most overrated player in world football. That's what's amazing about him.

I'm sure people only watch highlights on match of the day (not you, but the general population) of him because he is often outclassed and bossed in midfield for most of the game, then he puts a nice pass in and the commentator acts like it's the only person in the world that can do it... Try watching some Spanish football or even better Brazilian and Argentinean leagues where that happens consistently, Tildsley. I can't believe that the premiership is so devoid of skill outside the top four that he is seen as a brilliant player.

And god forbid that he scores a goal on one of the 3/4 occasions that he does per year.. it's like he is some kind of god. Worlds best at scoring in European qualifiers against **** teams though.

On top of all that he comes across as a petulant primadonna.

And that Caleb Folan deal has been finalized for Hull City. 1 Million English pounds. A new club record. Hopefully he'll do well.
As I mentioned in my previous post, his goal-to-games ratio isn't that hot for a striker – 17 in 124 games, apparently – and he has a history of problems with his knee. Coupled with the fact that all our previous record signings seem to fail to live up to their potential and/or pick up nasty injuries very easily, I'm not going to get too excited... but we'll see how he gets on.

Why?

Seing as we have had more than any other team in the league over the past two seasons (Pepe Reina winning the Golden Gloves for two years running) it kind of suggests that we are pretty good at it.

No doubt we have a great keeper; but Portsmouth have been improving, to the point that I believe they are capable of scoring goals against the top four regularly this season, and even taking a few points off them.

Of course, I'd prefer that Liverpool and Reina continue to keep clean sheets. :)

Well, I'm having a pleasant evening with a beer in my hand watching the transfer window close on Sky Sports News. As with last year they've got a little clock counting down and everything. Ace.

My favourite story of the day was Everton announcing on their club website that they'd secured the services of Argentinean star Juan Roman Riquelme. Unfortunately, the club had to issue a statement saying that they hadn't actually signed him... their web boffins were making some cosmetic changes to the site and mocked up a page saying that the fictional transfer had gone through, and said page was then actually published by mistake. :D

Still, there's 50 minutes to go yet before the window closes so don't worry Everton fans, there's still time yet. ;)

<looks at date on article>

Blimey... so it did. Ahem.

I missed it at the time, and they were discussing it on the telly earlier as if it was something that had happened today. I blame Sky entirely for this, and will be on the phone to them tomorrow to demand a refund on my subscription to their sports channels.

Maybe.

All is forgiven so long as Arsenal sign Quaresma within the next.. oh.. 29 minutes. ;)

Shame to see Gary O' Neil shipped off to 'Boro. He's been at Pompey since he was a youngster and has done tremendously well over the years.

Still, that's football.

(This move was meant to set off a chain reaction of signings, but that doesn't seem to have materialized.)

<checks Everton website>

Well, there's nothing on there about them signing him, so you might be alright. ;) Any news on any other potential transfer targets?

Nah, nothing's gonna happen. Wenger has made that pretty clear. I don't believe its down to lack of funds though, it seems like he just hasn't found anyone he wants really.. A bit annoying as our squad is ridiculously thin.

Talk about slipped in there at the death! Diarra signs from Chelsea. :) Pleased because.. its something.. lol.

Well, it was a disappointing deadline day, but there will be a couple of deals trickle in today no doubt, the ones that everyone forgot to announce.

But I'm happy, last year some half baked Championship side got Bridges at about 11:47 and put a downer on my day, none of that so far this year...

It's just a pity that after this last gasp transfer swoop for a decently sized fee, Bridges has never really been given a chance in the side – and with Folan and Pedersen's arrivals he looks set to slip even further down the pecking order.

A shame, because whenever he has managed to get a game he's generally looked pretty good.

Wenger signs a French player???? Shocking.

I guess if he's good, and young, they should be able to find a place for him. Any idea on the fee?

I'm hearing £2 million, but no one really knows. I think he's just going to be a squad player.. To be honest, from what I've seen of him at Chelsea he hasn't been too great, so I'm not overly excited.. Oh well, at least something happened. :p

I only hope that Chelsea are ready for a Third Round League Cup mauling at the KC. Given that I correctly predicted that we'd not only get past Wigan but also get a top Premier League club at home in this round, I confidently predict a convincing 8-1 victory for the Tigers. Splendid.

The draw in full (Premier League teams in bold)...

Blackburn v Birmingham City
Reading v Liverpool
Manchester United v Coventry City
Tottenham Hotspur v Middlesbrough
Hull City v Chelsea
Blackpool v Southend United
West Ham United v Plymouth Argyle
Arsenal v Newcastle United
Luton Town v Charlton Athletic
Manchester City v Norwich City
Sheffield United v Morecambe
Sheffield Wednesday v Everton
Fulham v Bolton Wanderers
Burnley v Portsmouth
Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest or Leicester City
West Bromwich Albion v Cardiff City

Gutted. Coventry got United, that could have been Carlisle.

Who would I have supposed? I don't care... What a day out that would have been.

Never mind, Cheltenham at home today. ;)

Everyone in the country bar the 17 real Chelsea fans will be hoping you're right.

F1 magnates to take over at QPR

QPR have confirmed that Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone have made a recommended offer for the club.

Gianni Paladini will remain as chairman but Antonio Caliendo and Franco Zanotti have agreed to resign from the board.

Briatore told the club website: "Bernie and I were delighted to receive a recommendation from the QPR board for our bid for the club.

Paladini said: "This offer provides much needed investment and an excellent opportunity to move the club forward."

I guess that puts an end to the Ecclestone/Arsenal takeover rumour.

Good to see Clint Dempsey score again. I think he may be the best American player in the premier league. I don't think Fulham can come back against Spurs though...
