The old design was all over the place. No consistency.

It was worth updating just to get rid of the leather effect on some apps

I agree with you, just read the last part of my post.

Apple's logo alone will sell anything. It doesn't have to perform well like prior Apple products.

They can sell millions of anything that has the Apple logo. Most of their target market only use a small fraction of the various features.

Ok what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Judging by the comments in the alternative forums the same can be said for the competition.

But your comment specifically is a strawman and the type of comment that invites silly flame wars.

Well, the fact threads like this still appear (almost two years later, not three) might be a hint that possibly, just possibly, something really wrong happened when iOS 7 was released.

Or it might mean nothing at all. I mean, a lot of people saying something doesn't make it true. That doesn't even go into the fact that there are, maybe, five people who are throwing these topics around. I'd say ten at most.

Almost three years later and another thread on this?

I'm sure that before iOS 7, there were repeated threads with people complaining that iOS 6 is ugly.

iOS 6 is horribly outdated at this point. Not in a iOS 6 is 2 years old way but in a fashion trend has been replaced way. The iOS 6 screenshots next the the 7 look outdated in that way.

A lot of design has moved onto a flat simplistic look and feel. The base layout hasn't changed just the make up of the elements inside it. This is isn't an Apple or iOS only thing anymore, it's everywhere. We've lost the gradients and graphical candy of iOS versions before 6 and its not a bad thing.

Nobody here is really expecting Apple to revert directly back to the iOS 6 look. Everyone knows that iOS 6 is done and we are moving to the future.

We're saying that the future of iOS needs to be better than it is right now, and that iOS 7 and 8 are full of huge design failures.

I want you to identify the design problem I have with the first picture I attached, and tell me why it is acceptable.

Then, I want you to look at the second attachment and tell me why it's outdated, because it is the kind of design that most of the complainers here are actually asking for, and not the same as iOS 6. It's a design language that is actually newer than iOS 7 and it was introduced in OS X Yosemite.

I don't like the all white look and my home screen is a dark background. Other than some of the icons were update, which I could care less about my home screen is similar to the second picture. So I'm not clear on what the "high faluting sounding design language" is all about.

Ios 7 design makes ios users complaint from same android issues like lagg , shutter , etc..

Forstal need to be back again to maintain what ive destroied

Every one must admit that we never get bugs like now in any final release till ios 6

Ios 6 was fast fluid responsive in all devices and there is another point that apple don't care now about old devices any more and that never happened before

I have 5s and wish i could install ios 6 on it , it will fly hhhhh

iOS 6 was so fast and iOS 8 is slow, even on the iPhone 6. That's what's so shocking.

We already know that iOS 8 is finished. They did the best they could do and they won't be able to make it that much better.

I do realize that at times the truth can be painful...

That would of course be the right thing to do, but unfortunately will never happen :(

iOS 7/8 still looks unfinished on iPad

If the rumors turn out to be true about iOS 9, does the optimization aspect of polishing the OS mean that it will finally take advantage of the larger iPad displays instead of just simply scaling up the iPhone interface? Ex: the folders, Notification Center, Siri, spotlight, multitasking app switcher, music app, etc.

Love the iPad hardware design but the fact that iOS 8 still looks unfinished on its displays is a huge deal breaker in regards to purchasing an iPad.

I haven't noticed these issues man. Apple kind of promotes the fact their iPad apps aren't scaled version of the equivalent phone app.

Well some of the apps do look like scaled up iPhone apps but what I'm mostly referring to are the UI elements which clearly show that they aren't taking full advantage of the larger display. My examples were the notification center, the app switcher, the folders, etc.

Fair enough brah. Hope you get those refinements in iOS 9.

Most apps since the iPads inception aren't that different. The only exception is the music app. But that's about to change in a few months with the new beats integration.

In iOS 4,5,6 on iPad were essentially scaled up. Remember folders and multitasking? Identical.

dont worry everyone will be praising ios 8 as flawless & fast on all devices once ios 9 launches, this only happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR cause people are sheep

That's for sure. I mean, it's a good system, but it's just so boring in the visuals department. If you showed someone iOS6 and iOS7 who had never seen iOS before and asked which one came first, he would almost certainly point to iOS7 because it just looks so primitive and silly, where iOS6 looks pleasant and robust, even though their underpinnings are pretty much exactly the same. That's not too surprising since it was exposed some time ago that iOS7 was actually created using Microsoft Word.

LOL! It certailnly looks like...

For those who watched the first iOS 7 presentation keynote, I’m sure you will remember the spectacular video that opened it. It was an abstract beautiful animation with a voice over talking about awsome design patterns…it was so good that thought they would come up with a futuristic and surprising iOS 7 design later in that presentation.

It was surprising alright, but for all the bad reasons. They simply removed the patterns and colours from the navigation bars and toolbars, the outlines from the buttons, all background patterns and that’s pretty much it. Everythjing is white with lots of text (some of it content text, some of it labels, and some of it "buttons").

What they didn’t realize or care is that several basic design guidelines (that were so well implemented since iOS was launched) were broken. 1. Buttons should not look similar to text or labels (they should invite touch), especially in a touch device as there is no precision device like a mouse. Moreover, you should not have to chose the colour of a button based on its function, which of course hampers creativity and app aesthetics 2. Content should not be confused with tools/commands, which is how it resulted from having the content/backgrounds the same colour as toolbards/navbars 3. The newsstand icon, is it a bad joke? 4. most of the other icons and colors looks silly, etc, etc, etc...

I wish Apple either:
- Takes advantage of some of the excellent design paradigms of iOS 6, which if you remember was considered far superior to android design wise
- Or does something really innovative that really creates a sense of awe in its users.

One way or the other, Apple should dedicate serious resources into making iOS the reference in mobile design again, otherwise android will soon surpass it (which is already debatable if it hasn't)

Many people have gotten use to the hideous ios 7/8 look, that's why its so popular now. People should have boycotted it, like myself. Then maybe Apple would think twice about restoring that classic look.

I am go grateful there are others who appreciate iOS for what it use to look like. So much better and easier on the eyes.

Because all you people just "accepted" iOS 7/8, we are all stuck with it now.

I wish iOS 7 looked more like this, with the exception of the freaking signal dots. IF it did, I wouldn't have such a problem with it.

And any sane person would pic the calendar app on the left and its more clean and easier to view.

I'm sorry, but you're comparing week view to month view. I think the calendar and menus are fine. It's the app icons and buttons where Apple went overboard.

I loved the redesign, when I was running iOS 7 beta I actually had people ask to see what the new OS looked like and they all thought it looked amazing

Hated the leather effect, however I just brought the leather case for iPhone 6 to remind me of the good old days lool

Many people just like shiny new things simply because they are shiny and new and not really because they are actually any better or anything like that (at least certainly initially, even if some of those people will change their mind to one degree or another with actual use of something, while others still won't really care aside from it being "cool" or "different" or something else purely subjective and pretty much fairly personal and thus essentially irrelevant to others who have their own take on it).

iOS6 is luxurious. I keep an iPad and iPod on 6 to remind myself what made iOS devices crazy popular.

Lucky you. My iPhone 5s already came with iOS 7, and I need the latest os on my phone, but I regret so much having installed it on my iPad 2...it was an amazing device and now it' crap.

Does anyone know a way to reinstall iOS 6, even if it's a hack?

Calendar is maybe the only acceptable app in iOS 7/8 but even that one shows its flaws. So the rule is: text of certain color (in this case red) is a button, otherwise it's not. This already makes makes you use the right brain for something that used to be so intuitive. But wait, what about the month name? IT IS RED BUT NOT CLICKABLE. LOL!!!

Really, iOS 7 is a joke! Forstall or Jobs would never have allowed it to come out.

You make some good points.

No way to go back to ios 6 on iPad 2. I wouldn't to, however.
