Who is on the position to decide what race/age/gender waits on the line for the new iPhone? How is that a bad business? Gee, you guys act like you have just landed from Kepler-22b!! Name one company that gives a crap who buys their product? Yes, it does not look good and of course nasty stuff appear to be going on but also remember that media can only show you what they want you to see and then call it "The Reality". I mean, seriously..... what would you suggest, how can you stop people from buying stuff, which is perfectly legal??

This is exactly the same situation in the UK (well from my experience London at least), except instead of scalpers from an Oriental background, the scalpers are all Indian/Pakistani.

Obviously Apple dont care who buy their phones and are making a ton of money, but their customers who genuinely just want a phone for themselves are missing out.

I used the UK's reserve and collect system to pickup my phone at around 10am from London's Covent Garden store (one if the largest along with Regent Street) and there was easily still a queue of around 500-1000 outside the store in barriers, the vast majority of the queue (over 95% at a guess) were Indian/Pakistani and the vast majority were scalpers. Most didnt speak English and I personally witnessed exactly the same as the documenary - they were buying in cash or gift cards. I saw handlers with large stacks of cash and Apple gift cards, handing them out to large groups in the queue before they went to pay. They would always buy two, hand them to at least one other person with a big rucksack, get more cash and rejoin the back of the queue and attempt to do the same.

Sleeping on cardboard, leaving trash everywhere, starting fights with each other. All the behaviour above that I witnessed was by these scalpers.

To sum up:

-The VAST majority (over 95% roughly) Indian/Pakistani origin
-Being "handled" by single guys who hand out large sums of cash or gift cards
-Always buying two at a time
-Handing them to handlers who repeat the above

I just want to say in response to people who as soon as someone mentions someone's ethnic background that they are somehow "racist". These accusations need to stop. It is simply FACT! I was there. I witnessed this first hand. It was DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR. The fact is that the vast majority are Indian/Pakistani, who didnt speak English, likely flew in just to do this, to make vast sums of profit, who get treated very poorly by handlers and the wider structure, who are probably paid pennies to do this and on the whole did not appear in the best of health or in good hygiene (most smelled bad, were wearing trampy looking clothes and generally looked quite unkept).

The fact is that this is the profile of the "scalper" you cant beat around the bush. If people are making accusations of racism theh really need to grow up and realise this is fact to fantasy - if scalpers were of all different backgrounds then I would say so, but this is not the case.

The accusations of racism do not come from pointing out the background of said people, but the disgusting comments that attack these people for their race entirely. That is what is truly disgusting, not people buying a product and then choosing to do whatever they want with it. The concept is not difficult to grasp at all but I guess it is easier to pretend to be obtuse

I would go further to say there is in fact profiling going on. POC here are singled out for undue suspicion and considered guilty by default it seems.

This goes without saying.
It's easy to see through their damp, faux "concern."

Where has anyone in this thread attacked people for their race entirely? Indeed you are correct in saying that would be racism - I and others are purely pointing out that the vast majority of people from certain backgrounds seem to be exploited and ruining the experience, and that is fact.

The vast majority of people that are professionals at sport, happen to be in good shape - does that mean Im stereotyping? No, it is just a fact. Probably a bad example, but you should get the point.

Ruining the experience, laughable. What entitlement. No, I'm afraid it's not a fact. Those people are there to do what anyone else is there to do, to purchase an item.

No I understand your example, scalpers are always non-white--oh, wait

Can they? Ofcourse they can and have no more right than anyone else. Should they? Definately not. Morally, these people have destroyed the joy and anticipation of product launches and turned them into a cattle auction. Morally, it should be customers who intend to buy one for themselves or family should get priority, not a random guy who has flown in just to buy in bulk to sell on for large profit.

Ofcourse they are making money, but at the end of the day, life is about enjoyment and enjoying the world we live in and everything it has to offer, including wonderful devices created by intelligent people, and why should people be prevented from doing so?

Well... I mean... Here?:

You speak of morals as if it has anything to do with people arriving early to purchase this particular item. Oh, well come earlier next year. They wanted it more.

Your feelings mean nothing. People are attacking those who are breaking no laws over "feelings" and "ruined experiences." It's hilarious

LOL, people's comments don't make the video racist. If someone who has no affiliation with the video posts a racist comment, that might make the commenter racist. Has nothing to do with the video they are commenting on.

Well... I mean... Here?:

I see no "attacking" just facts, I am not being abusive or using any negative words or cursing.

This world has become too politically correct. I don't like their behaviour, if that makes me racist then I guess I am. It's still wrong morally, regardless of whether and laws are broken or not.

If Apple only launched a new product in say, India, a country where the overwhelming majority are Asian, and 5000 American white guys flew in to buy as many as they could too take back to the USA to sell for profit, there would be outrage in the press over there.

Although the intent is quite less than honorable, it's a great lesson in supply/demand and the slightly gray side of capitalism at work.

For folks that cry about scalpers keeping those who "really wanted" the iPhone (for personal use or whatnot) obviously they didn't want it as much as the folks who spent days outside the store did. Next time, beat them at their own game.

I may be wrong on this, but I think FAA regulations have a 11lb limit on lithium ion batteries per person as carryon (it is considered HAZMAT) so I wonder how many people are employed as mules to actually carry the cargo back to its destination.

Lol! You thought there was an entire documentary just on the iPhone 6 antenna lines :p

Well that's what I was hoping to see too. Just what is up with those lines anyway- if they were thinner would reception/transmission really be worse?. Why can't they be around the edge or just on top?. Who designed the lines like that?. THESE ARE THINGS I WANT TO KNOW AND CAME HERE TO WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY AND LEARN ABOUT!

No matter how hard you try one simply cannot ignore the racism surrounding this particular video. Just take a peak at the comments, hell around here. It's amazing how oblivious people can be.

Wow pot meet kettle. Talk about oblivious. Typical.

Racist? Racism? wtf are you talking about? Go find something else that isnt there to whine about. Some people......

----------

Oh please. Again, look at the comments on that video. To those claiming it has nothing to do with race, you're kidding yourselves. It's amazing how some people choose to go through life ********ing.

I'm aware of what's actually happening, law abiding indivduals standing in line to purchase an item. So again I ask what's the problem? Oh won't someone think of the poor disfranchised Apple fanciers?

----------

I'm not a guy or a scalper.
And I preordered my 6, it arrives tomorrow :)

And these people are just the pawns.

I think its time apple looked into getting rid of cash sales / gift cards and only sold to people with valid Apple Ids and credit cards registered to the country of purchase.

They need to do something, these launches have gone from fun affairs of Apple fans, to majority of the line being scalpers, and not working for themselves but someone else.

And people claiming this is racist, I don't think racism means what you think it does. This is exploitation of individuals who have to wait wait for days, sleeping through the night on the side walk and praying it does not rain!

I don't see anything wrong here. People line up, pay for the phone, and leave. Apple gets their money, the people who buys it gets to do whatever they want with the phone because it is their money. Stop hating the player, hate the game.

Anyone is entitled to a purchase, regardless of their purpose. I just wish there was a better way for this, I think it's very bad having people stand in a line for 2 days and sleep on the streets.

Apple should not allow a line to begin forming until 12-24 hours of release date. Not sure what else to do to make it better.

Hopefully Apple sees it and next release finds a way to make this a lot better.

Maybe they should allow those who have purchased a previous iPhone or have a track history of purchasing iPhones first priority when it comes time to pre-order. Took me 2 hours to get through the website on pre-order day, and I have bought ever single iPhone since the first one. Not trying to say I am better than the next guy trying to get an iPhone, but would think being a long loyal customer can give me a slight advantage. This can help those out by pre-ordering online and either get it delivered or pick it up on release date, at least those who really want and will use the iPhone won't have to get shafted by the scalpers.

Its got nothing to do with race/age/gender. Its about exploiting an individual to have them camp out for a few nights, to make some money, while you get to sell the product and huge markup. These people are not buying for themselves.

Your from the UK, so your must be aware of the organised gangs that operate. As below, you can say its not illegal... though if you scratch under the surface, there is a dark underbelly. Though seeing a child ask you for money seems quite innocent and legal right??

http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_page/newsid_9618000/9618038.stm

You really have to ask why these people are prepared to camp days in the cold. I assure you that noone on these forums would like to be exploited like this, you have to ask why they do it......

You need you catch up. Another thread was locked because of this very topic. Denial isn't helping your case btw.

Race was never brought up. This is about exploitation. Unless you choose to ignore the facts presented at the where individuals, who's race was never mentioned, giving thier purchased iphones to a minder/buyer.

It was locked down, cause a rational discussion was completely derailed by muppets who have no idea what racism is, just like what has happened on this thread.

I don't see the racism being the point here.

I think the point of this video is how these black market people (chinese or otherwise) are totally ruining the whole thing for everyone. It is totally out of control and Apple should do something about this. I know they just care about the bottom line, but they also care about customer experience, and this isn't good customer experience.

Agreed.

If Apple simply did like they have in years past (contract only phones sold early on, no non-contract phones sold for the first month or so) then this black market problem wouldn't exist.

Not that Apple is going to do that though (heaven forbid you cost your company a sale!) until the publicity of this nonsense gets too the point where they can no longer ignore it.
