hello there,
I´m in the market for a new 120gb ssd. I can get the 840 Pro for 125, or the NO pro for 87. As I have a macbook pro 13" 2009, is it worthy to go with the Pro 840, or i will not notice the difference due to the sata II limitations.
I now have a vertex2 60gb. I want the new ssd to be as fast or faster. Please help me decide. thanks a lot!
just wanted to share this cooooolll samsung ssd icon with you:
Go to System Preferences - Startup disk. Make sure the SSD or HDD is selected, not the network.

1. Yes.1. Samsung 840 SSD's are Sata III, right?
2. MacBook Pro from early 2009 only supports Sata II? Or, is it only the optical bay that supports Sata II?
3. I can install Sata III drives in an early 2009 but I won't be getting the most out of the SataIII, right?
4. Is it worth installing Sata III drives in spite of that? Or should I get Sata II drives? Does it even matter?
5. Is it worth getting 2 SSD's, or should I get 1 SSD for my main bay and a regular HDD or Hybrid for my optical bay?
I'm trying to update the firmware on my recently received 840 and, like others here and there, I'm experiencing the "No bootable device" error when booting from the firmware DVD I burned.
I'm quite certain that I've burned it correctly as it does show up in System Preferences > Startup Disk as well as when simply booting while holding the option [alt] key so I'm at a loss with why it isn't working.
I've been searching around both here and elsewhere for an answer but haven't found anything so far that's worked.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
I had the exact same problem and couldn't figure it out. It was almost as if the download from Samsung is bad or something. Either way, I ended up installing Windows through bootcamp, updating the firmware with the provided Magician software and then deleting the Windows partition in bootcamp once I was done. Definitely time consuming, but it wasn't difficult and finally got the drive updated. Sorry, I wish I had another suggestion for you, I understand your frustration.
I just received my 840 Pro for my Macbook Pro and need to update it. I don't have access to a Windows PC so I was wondering if anyone has a link the instructions on how to do it?
Or just someone to explain it?
Thanks guys
You don't need a Windows PC to update the firmware. Use this link and scroll to the bottom and find the OS X firmware updater. Be sure that the ODD you use is on the main SATA bus as an external drive will not work.
