The "Should I get the 6 or 6 Plus?" struggle thread (stay positive)

Thought I has my mind made up to get the 6....Of course I read this thread and now can't decide. Didn't think about that the 6 plus could replace my mini

A lot of people making fun at how big iPhone 6+ but I get this feeling that iPhone 6+ will end up being a hot seller compared to its little brother.

I agree. Maybe not with preorders, since no one has really seen it in person, but in the long run, I agree.

Apple Store display

Do Apple stores usually display the new products in this case the IP6 and/or IP6+ before preorders? I need to decide too and I'm hoping to see a demo in Apple stores.

Honestly, they have always given "the next step up" a $100 price hike. By always, I mean since the iPhone, at least. Most buyers will see the 6 plus as the "next step up", everything else being equal.

As much as I like to think that most people NEED more than 16GB of storage, I would suspect that Apple has a good bit of statistics compiled of how much space people are actually using on their phones. I am speaking against myself here, but that's ok.

I think their statistics show that there are many people who are borderline on 16, who end up paying the extra $100 for the next step. Easy extra money for them. If they made 32GB the base, a much smaller proportion would get the 64GB.

16GB is quickly becoming too small though. All the higher resolution assets are going to take more space, not to mention things like 60 and 240 fps video. Hopefully the next one starts at 32 (and it'd be absolutely unforgivable if the iPad doesn't go 32 base next time)

...I think im going 6+, the better battery, camera, screen and extra features make me lean towards it more.
I was dead set on the 4.7 before the keynote but now finding all the extras out i think i'd regret getting the 6 and not the 6+, plus i always keep my phone in my back pocket and i hate skinny jeans so thats not an issue.

Tomorrow i might hate the 6+....IDFK right now...

But to track distance and mapping you need a device with a GPS. The iWatch won't solve this.

----------

How did you carry the Note when running? Did you use an armband, waist strap or just in your pocket?

from what i read it will sync with iPhone 6/6+ so it will have GPS, i believe that in due time it will solve the GPS issue by either iCloud sync or a sync before exercise...

"Designed with fitness apps in mind, the touchscreen Apple Watch reads one's heart rate, employs the GPS of a user's iPhone and also supports Voice over LTE for improved call quality. Featuring Apple's "Siri" feature, the Apple Watch also will boast three different finishes, multiple bands and a sapphire screen, but requires an iPhone to operate. It is the company's first new product in about four years since the launch of the iPad tablet."

I have the iPhone 4S. I'm wondering if I should go with the 5S or 6/6+. I'm pretty sure that iOS 8 will be slow on the 4S so I definitely want to upgrade. Any other 4S users looking to upgrade?

I'm upgrading from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6. Please don't buy the iPhone 5S. You're buying last year's technology for a mere $100 discount. This will get outdated much sooner, and it will start to get sluggish with future iOS releases. I would never advise anybody to buy last year's iPhone. Anyway, that's just my two cents...

As I see it, the 6 feels excessively big while the 6+ doesn't. Sounds ridiculous but here me out. The difference is the 6+ takes advantage of the added real estate. As this video demonstrates and was briefly touched upon in the keynote, the 6+ has special landscape modes for different apps that mimic the iPad experience and also show more information on one screen. The 6's extra screen space is kind of just there with stretched-out apps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfNeEsTeKvw

With all that being said, though, I'm still desperately on the fence.

I'm in the exact same boat. I know I'm getting one of the 6 models, but haven't decided which one.

Well if you noticed in that video (and I believe another video shows the same) they both can use landscape mode. It's just that in Mail for instance you can have icons beside each email. In my case I think I'm going with the iPhone 6 not the 6+ because for a guy I don't have big hands. So I think the 6 will do just find. Going from a 4S to the 6 will be a big enough jump plus the cost of the 6+ is a bit much. I just wish they started with 32GB instead of 16GB which means I'll likely be getting the middle 64GB version. This will be the first time I'd be getting the new/current model instead of the previous years version.

now it may be in my head but wouldn't the 6 Plus screen size require more battery, obviously when it's in use? do i have a good theory or again, is it in my head?

as of now and when the rumors were being swirled, i stuck with the 4.7 (iPhone 6) and i think i'm sticking with it. I would love the better display but not the size of the phone itself.

----------

as long as they have stock, i think you would also need to pay the re-stocking fee.

on apple it shows battery time and such, it has a bigger battery so it will last longer (won't know for sure until the 19th) i say start with bigger and scale down if not working for your needs......i foresee a lot of exchanging going on that is if china has even made the phones yet!! haha!

Yeah I was thinking that. Plus with the 5/5S I wouldn't be gaining much screen space anyways cause it's only a vertical stretch of the screen which only adds a row of icons. Seeing the side by side comparisons with the 5S and 6 I know compared to my 4S I'll gain a lot of screen space with the 6 as opposed to the 5S.

the only semi-complaint i have is this lack of 32GB, i can't believe they just took away the 32GB option and think 16GB is enough with updates that hog space each time, although could it be a push to get more + more people to all of the iCloud services? hmmmm....

i love the cloud so i am happy to pay, have never had any problems, but still bugged that it did not start at 32GB

The "Should I get the 6 or 6 Plus?" struggle thread (stay positive)

I'm getting the 5.5 ' 128 gig one. I want an iPhone with a big difference in look and size.. Plus the iPhone 6 plus has. Slightly better picture taking. Why not get it? I don't care which Color. I have the gold 64 gig 5s. So I'm over the gold hype.

It's a pity that battery size aside that they didn't give them identical features both with 1080p screens & OIS on the camera as I like the idea of the 6 plus but fear it may just be too big for easy handling especially for one handed use even with its one handed mode.

I see on some hands on video that the iPhone 6 Plus has these face icons on apps like text messaging. Is it exclusive to the Plus or does the regular 6 have it also?

AppleEvent_0130.0.jpg

Exclusive to the 6+ only. In one comparison video, only the plus had this interface when both devices turn landscape. I can already see a potential jailbreak fix for this.

I knew I wanted the smaller screen before today.

However, looking at them, the regular 6 is hardly an upgrade. The camera is nearly the same as the 5S, 5S is plenty fast, it's screen is mainly making things look bigger, etc.

The 6S has image stabilization, little tricks like horizontal view, etc. It actually is the "new," experience, whereas the 6 is just a barely bumped up phone.

If Apple had only done the 6, people would be complaining. They had to offer it though, since the 6+ is indeed too big in some scenarios.

The 6+ lets them offer something completely different.

I would have almost preferred the two sizes split down the middle. :)

Another 4S user here. I think 6+ is too big for me coming from 4S and I've never been a fan of big phones anyway. Heck even galaxy s3 was too big for me when it first came out and I made fun of my friends for using such a large phone. Now I'm bound to get a 6. However a part of me says 6S upgrade is going to be huge especially when you think how 5S to 6 internally didn't get that much of an upgrade.

A8/M8 which isn't drastically different performance wise like the jump from A5 to A6(was it like 7x faster?), camera only got the focus pixels, aperture is still the same, nfc chip and barometer. Apple pay won't be implemented in my country for a long time anyway so nfc is not that important. Also if design improves from 6 to 6S and they drop 16gigs to settle for 32-64-128 options the premium I paid for 64 whilst getting the 6 will be a disaster as 16 doesn't cut it for me and 64 is too big.

First world problems...

I agree with all of this.

I was planning to jump back to Android as I despise iOS7 (JB 6.1.2 > *), but the more I think about it the more getting a iP6+ is a good idea.

1) Even though the OS needs work, in App experience is better on Apple...Even YouTube is better.
2) Display. Apple has the highest quality displays, even trumping the HTC One, with its (unfortunately) visible digitizer). I did notice the 6+ has lower contrast than the 6...
3)Real Estate usage. As Android displays got bigger, so everything on it. Apples use of space is much better. (Although not as good as iOS 6).
4) Audio Quality. Android devices always seem to be a mixed bag with headphone jack audio quality, speakerphone & earpiece quality. Apple has always been solid in this regard.
5) iTunes. Everybody hates it, I like it.
6 )Music app & Podcast app. Simply no better alternative.

I just hope iOS 8 brings some MAJOR smoothness and stability improvements...with more memory in the iP6/6+ to help.

I'd still prefer a 4.7 1080 device. Hopefully at least reports will conclude the 6+ has better battery life to give me some peace of mind.

All these phones need now is a speaker on top to deliver stereo.

One Space Gray 128GB iPhone 6+ please. :)

I tried a Note 2 when that came out & I couldn't really get on with it ergonomics wise so I ended up sending it back. So that's one side of the argument. But on the other side I've found the 5S's screen rather too cramped especially with my larger hands. But I have to wonder if 4.7" is more of a sweet spot for me than 5.5". As I have a 5S I don't feel that rushed to upgrade yet so I will probably aim to try both sizes out first in a shop, think about it a bit & then make my choice.

4.7 has widely been considered the perfect sweet spot for one handed use. The Moto X was praised for this.

Face it, iPhone 6+ is more than most can handle the way we are accustomed to using phones.

That being said...

I think this its awesome that Apple finally released this device. Every one of their users have been stuck behind 4"/3.5" devices. Not only is it going to be a lot learning curve for them, but a learning curve for Apple.

Apple was completely silly to introduce the double tap to minimize option. Seriously, its 5.5"! Do you really need to give a nipple to your users like that? Having owned larger phones (Largest being the Sony Z Ultra), I can tell you first hand users will not use the feature long. It will be more frustrating than anything.

(Double tap to split screen apps would have been killer) I honestly am speachless that still has not hit iOS.

If you like one handed operation, forget the 6+. However, I must warn you. After ADJUSTING to using a larger phone, most never go back.

This adjustment screams "Think Differently" in may ways.

You will be forced to engage you other hand! Like we all did with the Treos, Palms and Newtons. Not as extreme, but you will struggle at first. Once the adjustment is over, you will be typing emails and texts out like a champ.

The only thing you will never get away from is the physical size. Although, your concerns will shift from it being an oversized beast, to suddenly realizing phones around you are just too tiny.

It took about a week for me. That's well within the return period.

Worth mentioning that if you by from Apple online, you can not exchange it at their retail stores.

I agree, I think iPhone 6+ will be the top seller. (Specially in Asia)

Well...yeah. Majority of people in Asia (esp. my country) care more about whether they are buying the flagship product instead of whether the product might end up be useful at all to them.

I'll be getting iPhone 6 4.7" I guess. And an 2014 iPad.
