I got the Seagate 1TB SSHD drive for my PS4. Felt it was a good balance between space and speed. From what I had seen online the SSHD is almost as fast as the SSD most of the time. I really noticed the speed increase when going in and out of my garage in Need For Speed Rivals.

Interesting. Might have to pick a SSHD up sooner rather than later. I have only 90GB free on the 500GB that came with it.....

I think this is one of the videos I watched to make my decision.

Along with this article. The ACIV load times bit was interesting.

Overall I wanted more space and I also, for the most part, get a speed increase which is nearer the SSD than the HDD.

Thanks for the post - very informative video.

I've been in the Retro Computing mode and watching a bunch of different Computer Chronicles episodes, and one talked about how one day Solid State would take over Hard Disk Drives (1984) - but will be way off in years.

Looks like we are well on our way... ;)

Wanna get a smaller sized one for my old Mac Mini when it the hard drive goes bad...

Definitely going to pick up a SSHD at some point. Not looked into this though but hope someone knows. Does the PS4 have the ability to move content from old hard drive to new hard drive like the PS3 did?

So the SSHD is 80 euros here in Greece. My PS4 is on the way from the States, so Im thinking about getting the SSHD now, and just doing the upgrade as soon as I get the PS4. Does the SSHD have to be formatted, or do I just pop it into the PS4, and it does the rest?

I believe the PS4 will do it automatically.

With the PS3 it works that way (just pop in the hard drive and everything works). With the PS4 it does not. See the instructions I linked to a few posts prior.

This is incorrect.

I read on IGN that it did, do you have to do it on a computer first?

With the PS3 you could pop out the old drive, pop in a new one. While your saves weren't transferred, the OS wasn't messed with.

With the PS4 you can pop in a new drive but you also will need an external drive with the system software on it to reinstall the OS onto the new drive.

To be honest I can't recall if I had to format the new drive for the PS4. You might not have to. But you do need a 2nd drive or USB stick formatted in a particular way with a certain folder structure and the OS on it. Much more of a pain than the PS3.

That's a huge step backwards.

The 8th generation should have been about moving forward.

Not bad though, Sony only had minor screw-ups in the 8th gen, while ms is making them left and right

Yeah I'm not sure why they did it. My guess is that the PS3 OS had a size limitation that they decided on and could fit internally on some storage. For the PS4 maybe they didn't want that restriction so opted to have it reside on the system hard drive instead. Purely a guess as I don't know if the PS3 OS was saved on the HDD or not.

Skylanders Swap Force is extremely good looking in 1080p and with all the enhancements they made to next gen version. It looks far better than Knack with living breathing levels unlike Knacks sterile environments. 1080p, 60fps and AA levels on it's just a beautiful game.

Never paid too much attention to that game but it does look beautiful.

1080p makes all the difference for me too.

Oh god yes 1080p makes a huge difference alongside better textures and anti aliasing.

I was given a copy of Need for Speed Rivals on PS3 (already have it on PS4) and I never appreciated the PS4 version graphically until I saw the PS3 version running. OMG seriously brutal in comparison.

That's the funny thing, you don't realise how much of a jump it really is until you go back and play your PS3. More noticeable than some would have you think.

Just seen some of you discussing hard drive options and thought I'll add my 2 cents.

I bought a 1TB 5400rpm Samsung drive ahead of the European launch and installed it before playing my PS4.

So far it has been fine, no issues to report (touch wood) but I was considering a Hybrid drive before settling for the cheaper option and I am feeling a little bit of buyer's remorse.

I saved around £30 by not going Hybrid but there's a big part of me that would have liked the faster load times. But I'll live.

I plan on buying a 1TB SSD once they come down in price considerably.

Just received a replacement controller free of charge from Sony within 6 days - although I did have to pay £4 to post it 10 miles down the road to their PO BOX Customer Services Centre.

Excellent customer service - much better than Microsoft's is for the Xbox I can assure you!

Did you call their customer services? I was told to go back to Amazon for a replacement.

I just emailed them - they gave me an address to send it to and an 'incident number'. I got it back within a week - not sure what happens if you got it via Amazon - I wouldn't bother calling Sony or in fact any 'customer services' department as it takes them a long time to figure out what you want doing and costs a lot in phone calls at the same time.

Amazon's customer services are usually good - I'd just contact them via the online chat and go from there - saves a lot of hassle believe me!

So does anyone in Europe start seeing PS4's sitting on store shelves yet?

Here in Berlin, I still haven't seen any...but I must admit I haven't checked in a week or two. Amazon Germany is still out though, and seemingly will be for a while.

tbh I havent checked. But I'll ask at my local gamestop next time I am in.

Since its release, I have seen two units here where I live in Greece. I had my aunt send me one from the States so I can get it much earlier than I would have here.

Had pretty much the exact same problem and resolution. Forgot how easy it was to deal with Sony.
