I see people when I play, but haven't really interacted with anyone. Yesterday the game crashed on me in the middle of an interstellar mission, I guess when I log in this afternoon I'll see the damage.
Is this a completely PVP jeopardy environment, except maybe in ports? In other words can you be attacked and killed at any time out and about?

There are armistice areas where weapons are disabled which is usually around space stations. There is such thing as crime though, and if you get caught you get put in jail (so I have been told, lol).

Other than that, yeah you could be killed by other players when out and about, though when starting out you probably don't have anything worth being killed over (unless you bought a larger ship pledge upfront).

In any game with people I could easily see some of them killing for fun. My understanding is that some games it is dealt with by via bounties (Red Dead Redemption 2) getting other players to hunt you, or by AI enforcers.

haha, last night I was doing a cargo haul and whilst I was unloading someone came by and blew my ship up, leaving me stranded on planet. They blew two other ships up, landed, then took off. I didn't see the person leave their ship, I would have tried my had and shooting them if I had.

So you confirmed my premise about chaos in a world of human players. 😉 See this gives me pause, although I do know there is some form of ship insurance.🤔

Having played Eve Online for 4 years in the past, I can tell you that PvP in high sec completely ruined my interest in games that allows such actions everywhere.

It was allowed because one could declare war on a specific player corporation.
As an industrial corporation, we were not interested in warfare or PvP combat.
Several consecutive wars just ensured almost no-one would log in. Or people leaving the corp.

It is very costly both in terms of time and resources, to try the industrial route, if PvP focused gamers can destroy you at any time. To defend yourself you also have to acquire the gear/ship skills for combat.

While the PvP players don’t need to concern themselves with any industrial capabilities.
Be it mining, manufacturing or hauling.

Most of the time I don’t see/interact with anyone. Aside from just being a griefer, I have no clue why that person did what they did.

Today I tried my hand at courier runs, and got blown up by the NPC scavengers for my effort.

For… fun. 🤔 A son of a friend used to play RDR2 and go into a town and just start killing everyone cause he could, although that did cause complications with his game play. When I was online with it there were issues with hacks and other players killing you because they were invisible.

That is fair.

It can be from what I have read about others experience. I have opposite, I never see any players outside of a spaceport. Now I am what might be called a casual player so I don't get to deep into things which might be why I avoid this.

Ships come back after they are destroyed, no issue there. I have blown up countless ships and they all end up back good as new in my hanger. I love the realism of the universe and how good it looks when leaving a planet, the clouds, the horizon, sunset/sunrise, just a beautiful game that has so much potential.

Yeah I am loving the unlimited ship insurance right now, lol.

without it casual players like me would just not play the game. With how glitchy missions can be I rarely ever turn a profit. I am lucky right now that someone had given me a couple hundred million credits so lots of ships an still 80 million sitting in the bank. If I had what was in my system which was 5000 I would be out that in ship costs in a heart beat and would basically just uninstall the game. As much as I like the realism there has to be a little that keeps it playable.

Yeah the cargo freight mission not paying me was annoying (lost 222k aUEC). I've not have anyone give me money though. I am curious about all the changes I am hearing about 4.7, I've done a couple courier missions and know that isn't a huge money maker (so far), the cargo hauling missions can be lucrative, but time consuming. The whole economy in game is alleged to be changed with 4.7.

I don't follow much of what is coming as most of that is beyond me and for the time I can put into the game it will not really be something I am all that interested in.

I have done some cargo missions, I did one that paid out well 220,000 credits, took ages though and had to go into that new system Nyx. I am loading the cargo in one box at a time, not sure if there is better options for that out there.

I have been trying some of the dog fighting missions and just not great at that. I have bought a few heavy duty fighters and try some of the more challenging ones and do not fair too well. Not sure if I should be buying upgrades for the shields and lasers that make things better.

I have tried a few on planet missions that are basically just first person shooters. Those things have always been glitchy to me, last one I did had them basically all just standing and looking at me without firing, they were talking like they were in combat with zero happening. It was a massacre as I took them all out with basically no skill needed.

I've ordered 1 vkbsim flight stick (left hand) and will get the right hand later. Dog-fighting with the keyboard and mouse doesn't feel great. To be honest I haven't tried controller, but don't tell my wife, lol. Plus I can use them for Elite Dangerous (which I also own).

I had never given a flight stick a thought. Never used one. Normally I prefer a controller for games, for Star Citizen I use mouse and keyboard. At some point I might give that a try and see how that feels.

… a must. Can’t imagine playing this without it. Maybe I’ll try to give it another shot. How about ship controls keyboard, mouse, or a controller? I’m loath to breakout a large joystick.

You can play with either. I find just regular piloting fine with M/KB. Dog-fighting is a little bit more cumbersome, to me. Have not tried a controller. I did order a flightstick, going to try HOSAM until I can't take it and order another flight stick, lol.

I used to bad mouth controllers, but in a recent game still playing (MetalStorm) I have become enamored with controller play. I like the fact I can hold this in my lap and kick ass, not have to have it up on the table with a giant throttle too. In MS the throttle on my controller is left trigger.

4.7 dropped yesterday. With it came the Aurora Mk2 (which as a warbond with LTI seems like a steal at 40 bucks). I didn't get a change to play yet, was gonna give it a whirl when I get home from work today. My gladiator evo did show up, but it needs button mapping. I spent some time messing with someone else's setup and it didn't click, so I am working on my own mapping.

I have not gotten on in a few days. Did the 4.7 wipe ships and money?

They wipe ships and money? How does this relate to ship you purchase?
Just ones purchased with in game money and as far as I can tell they seem to not plan on doing that until the full version ships.

Ships purchased with real money you keep (I guess until the insurance goes into effect).
