Best. Top Gear. Ever. Just got better from start to finish. Totally amazing seeing Captain slow hit 417 km/h in that Veyron (then seeing his record get smashed by that test driver). Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were great guests and Tom's lap was spectacular! I have a feeling that 1:44 will stay on top for a long, long time. And to cap it off, the Senna tribute was great. I'm not that big of an F1 fan, but it really opened my eyes seeing how great a driver he was. Can't wait to re-watch it in HD.

100% agree! :)

Will be doing so tonight with a couple of mates (720p on  TV)

Throughly enjoyed last nights show. How Top Gear should be. Amazing what difference having solid content can make, the rest of the series has suffered dreadfully in that respect. I've always thought that Top Gear has enough decent content to make 2 maybe 3 excellent shows per series rather than cobbling together some dreadful dross in an attempt to fill out 6 shows.

Don't know what on earth Clarkson was on about when he was rambling about the MP4/4 having 1200bhp though... in race trim it barely made half of that. Oh that and his continued mispronunciation of 'Ayrton' of course. The devil's in the detail J.C. ;)

He keeps saying 'Barrichello' wrong as well I think.

I liked how they did a tribute to Senna. I couldn't believe anyone else in my family (except my dad) didn't know who he was. Send me a ton of hate messages, but I like it when TopGear becomes serious.

I was going to question your 'race trim' comment, do F1 cars come in any other kind of trim?:D however then I remembered that back in those days they used to rebuild the engine between qualifying and racing so the qualifying engine ran with more power.

Anyway, figures I saw was 900 bhp so maybe you are thinking of the bhp/litre? Link

Not seen this episode yet, going to watch it on iPlayer in hotel tomorrow night.

The engine during a race was toned down to 900bhp for fuel reasons but was still more powerful than most cars as they caught up adding turbos to there engines. During qualifying they did indeed turn the power up to 1200bhp

You'll see a lot of figures, but those quoted are entirely erroneous. 900bhp is far from accurate… 1200bhp laughably so.

in 1988 the turbo's were restricted to 2.5 bar from 4 bar in '87, previous to that as far as I can remember there wasn't a restriction. The MP4/4 in race trim put out somewhere in the region of 685bhp or so, it's well documented in an SAE paper on the Honda RA167E engine.

A little late with the 458 review.

Quite why Ferrari insist on using fixed paddles is completely beyond me, it really is.

Hammond missed a trick by not rebadging the Lotus Elan's arguably more reliable sibling... the Kia Elan though. :p

I don't quite understand why Top Gear is having these short seasons. 6 shows really is a bit silly. Sure, we don't need a full 18 shows but this is just silly.
I can only imagine it is a lack of funds. There's plenty of fun cars to review!

What an upsetting episode of Top Gear. What happened to our glorious sports car industry :( We used to make the greatest cars in the world. Not the fastest. Not the most reliable. But they had soul. The man on the street could afford them. And now what are we left with. Over-engineered Germanic perfection from Stuttgart

I'm glad that I've got my Lotus to remind me of how things could be.

Another awesome episode from the Top Gear trio. I loved how they took the mickey out of James' 430 and the 450 does look very pretty. The Brit car challenge was fun to watch as well and provided good insight on the British sports car industry. The ending, I must admit, choked me up a bit. And Jeff Goldblum's lap was pretty good for a guy that stayed in 3rd the entire time. I have to say that Series 15 ranks right up there as one of my favourite TG series of all time. Can't wait for Series 16 in the fall.

Edit: From what I understand, they usually do 14 episodes a year. So I think we'll get about 8 episodes in Series 16. I'm sure they'll do an SLS review and a review of the new McLaren (I really hope they do!) That'll be great to watch
