It made a great explosion when it crashed though!

The reaction of the three other people who were in the room with me (dad, sister's boyfriend & a mate) when the rocket took off was amazing! That was simply one of the most amazing Top Gear episodes ever, different, but just as good as last week's IMO.

BTW, the popularity of this thread highlights what an amazing show Top Gear is, I think it's the best thing on TV in ages, by a long shot...

If I was rich, I would fly to the UK every Sunday so I didn't have to wait for the damn torrent to be posted to watch Top Gear :p

Did you know that a robin reliant is also the best getaway car? 'cause it's a three wheeler, the polizei can't use stinger traps. Just a thought...

(you might also want to slap a V6 in it so you can actually get away, but that's another matter)

TG rocks my socks. :D

FYI peeps from the US/non-BBC nations - the torrent is up.

I've kept my eyes closed in the thread to avoid spoiling anything for myself...

Another great episode and I'm surprised the rocket made it as far as it did. But what the hell is up with hotels over there? That looked like a jail cell :D

And as far as the Brabus goes, what a shame. When JC mentioned the specs, I thought it could give the CCX a run for its money. Too bad they completely f*cked up that car :(

The SL55 was poor in standard guise. The SL's chassis simply can't handle that amount of power, and the Brabus is the perfect example of how undriveable a large capacity engine with a silly amount of torque actually is, even with electronic intervention. I can well imagine something like a well driven Ka whipping it down a tight, wet country lane to be honest. :p

I'm just not feeling this series at all :(, it'd be better if it went out live, with no rehearsals, because it's just so over scripted. You can imagine them practising the same lines all week, then the show that's broadcast just ends up lacking in any spontaneity.

I'm not sure its because because its recorded. Top Gear lost its touch when they started making it too much of an entertainment program and too little a car program. Sure, we don't want another fifth gear but a few seasons ago, it was still about the cars. Now they seem to be wanting to reach more viewers (also non-car enthusiasts) with their silly challenges. Often their quite amusing but their less and less about the cars. Pity...

Edit: And by the way! What's with not sending the 911 Turbo around the track!?!

The launching of the Reliant Robin was one of the best things I have ever seen on British TV. I thought the thing was just going to explode on the ground. Hammond's face was priceless when it actually took off.

Again! Again!

I agree that the studio sessions need to be more spontaneous - the other segments have to be scripted anyway, so why not open the studio bits up for more ad-lib hilarity? It would be nice if they answered emails like they did occasionally before. And the cool-wall is lame IMHO.

I still like the show though.

People used to watch Top gear because it would actually tell you some something informative and also something that would apply to the ordianary guy in the street.

Now its pure entertainment, i like it - but i feel that it has gone too far in its fantastical pursuit of supercars of ridiculous (but very funny) stunts.

If you want cars 99% of people can actually afford and a remotely sensible TV program, Fifth Gear is the one to watch. It's great...

However, I'd MUCH more rather watch a single episode of Top Gear than watch an entire series of Fifth Gear...

I loved Hammond's excuse for choosing the Robin: "Because its' pointy at the front". Classic.

Personally I was drooling over the Evo X. For a while I'd gone off these bug-eyed bewinged overcooked screamers and was about to enter oldmanhood with something more dignified but that looks great while being almost guaranteed to go like stink.

Tea drinking, why I've passed stronger urine samples

meh, I just take it on the chin myself. (I'm an American, I live in Outer London now)... It's just one of those things. Stereotypes. It's like the interpretation that all Brits are big tea drinking snobs. <...pause...> well it's generally untrue anyway. :p
Jeremy comes across to me as always complaining.

I found the comments/jokes about Americans, French, Germans funny in the beginning but then they just kept with the same scripted jokes over and over.

I've watched a few episodes of Fifth Gear. If I had more time I'd probably watch more. Tom Ford is pretty good, I remember reading bits by him in CAR. But sometimes It's a little boring.

However I do agree that Top Gear has become a little too sensational/scripted...

The German/American ones have gotten old for me, but I admit I still laugh at many of th French jokes, so I guess I can't complain about the others.

BBC is broadcasted in Digital throughout the UK and quite a few European countries. Don't think they've gone HD yet though. Why do you ask?

I'd just like to see higher quality rips of Top Gear, my favorite show. I mean we can get Gilmore Girls in 1080i, but Top Gear, with all it's male-I-gotta-get-the-63-inch-plasma viewership, doesn't even have that high quality of rips. I'd kill for a 720p, but it's at least good to know the rips are from a digital source.

The BBC do have an HD channel on Sky HD. It only shows some programs, not everything from BBC1 or BBC2 is broadcast (obviously). TG doesn't appear to be on it. You can see Sundays schedule here

Just got around to watching the latest episode...

The space shuttle thing was super impressive from a technical standpoint, but I'd rather they'd done something that had more to do with driving.

...And the cool wall is just silly. As was that Brabus Merc. I always thought those were meaninglessly powerful. It needs AWD or bigger wheels, or both.

That Evo X looks as nice as ever...the way things are going, it might come out right around the time I'm shopping for my first brand new car...hmm...:D
