O2 also had a 'policy' that you needed to have been a PAYG customer for a certain amount of time before you were eligible to unlock, i think this is true for all uk operators.
I am going to assume that the iPhone 4 will be O2 locked but the option to unlock will be available to existing O2 PAYG customers.
Just called O2 for my PAC. They didn't even try and talk me out if it! It seems vodafone need your PAC when you sign up or you can't port your number!
I wonder how contract preorders will work? Say Vodafone started preorders tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to sign up with my PAC, it'd cancel my number before I got the new iPhone!
Can someone confirm that o2 is the only network with visual voicemail?
I hate to say it, but it might be enough to keep me on board - I'll probably drop down to the iPhone Simplicity tariff though!

If each network has a different price then the Apple stores will have to abide by those prices making it much more complicated for staff to sell them.
Apple will most likely sell PAYG iPhones the same way Carphone Warehouse do. They're sold unlocked, but you must buy them with a sim and X amount of PAYG credit. Once you register the phone and sim, the settings sent to the phone could possibly lock it to that network.
The prices will vary slightly no doubt, but aren't the PAYG prices the same across the board at the moment?
I wonder how many sickies will be thrown that day?

I notice on the UK Apple Store you can only purchase the 3GS handset on PAYG, no option to buy a subsidised contract phone...has this always been the case? if so then realistically there is no chance of being able to pre-order the handset on contract via Apple tomorrow is there?

Do you reckon we can reserve it in store for collection?
I was at the store 1st thing for the 3gs and they had a que for people who reserved and one for those who hadn't.
I Google'd "iPhone 4 prices", as I have been doing every hour or so for the past couple of days, and this site has been returned in the search results.

UK based, price in GBP, quoting £693.24 for the 16GB on SIM free.
If that's any indication, then I'm afraid it's a 3GS for me.
I cannot afford nor justify over £600 for a phone, my mortgage is less than that per month.
that's sim free though, different to payg on a network
when i bought my 3g it was £550 sim free, or £400 on 02 payg
What is with all this talk about pulling a sicky? If you get on the internet early tomorrow morning you will reserve one for delivery on the 24 June?!

I've got the day off work. I don't need to. I just threw a general question out there not asking who was going to but how many people do you think will.
The price for a 32GB 3GS sim free around release date last year was around £950.00 from what I remember. It's what prompted to me to take O2's insurance! As expensive as the insurance is, it would still be massively cheaper than having to replace the handset myself!
Been lurking throughout this whole thread but I'm too excited now..
Why is SIM free so different to PAYG? I'm really hoping the 32GB comes in under £500 (£499 hopefully).
