I rang O2 for my PAC code and asked if they are doing pre-orders, and was told categorically "no we wont, it will be first come first served on the 24th".

this coupled with the fact that Orange, 3 and Vodafone all have said they will be offering a pre-order service, i just found it slightly odd that the original carrier is seemingly the exception to the rule.

Just because an advisor tells you something (they really will tell you anything, even when they know nothing!), doesn't mean it's true. The advisors usually find out the same time everyone else does.

O2 will be doing pre orders. 100%. Mark my word!

But if o2 allow you to unlock your iPhone almost immediately for £15, isn't it essentially the same thing?
It keeps that problem limited to 02 though. If we allowed it to happen to every phone then that is millions of phones out there that will be aimed and many UK users will not be able to get an iPhone on any carrier for a little while. Also as I have said before, now that all of our carriers apart from Virgin (who has virgin in anyway? surely it's only for the kids who's parents get a cheap deal on them because they have Virgin TV?) why would you need to unlock your iPhone, surely you just get the one on the carrier you want, unlucky if you are from another country and coming here to get one.

Am i right in thinking that because O2 will not be offering Pre-Orders they don't actually need to release there prices until the day they release the iPhone?

Was just in the Three store on Oxford Street (on the corner of Regents Street), and the guy in the shop was on the computer.

Was told that the website will be updated within the next few hours. As fair as he knows, they were told by there HO, it will go up this moring. Alas, nothing yet.

I just spoke with someone on apple store chat and she said nothing new. I asked her at what time will we be able to start preordering and she said they don't have information about the time yet. I told her that for the iPad was almost midnight so what does she think, she also replied we do not know yet.

I can't understand why do apple and all the networks have to treat people this way. Give us prices and let's order.

Anyway, can anyone remind me about the iPad pre order. Did we know the prices before the pre order date or what was the case?

I poped into an orange shop whilst I was waiting for optician to do my lenses and the girl in the shop said they weren't taking pre-orders till monday and you leave a £60 deposit and that gets refunded if you qualify for a free handset.

Why would anyone choose Three?

Yeah, they're tariffs are cheap - but you really do get what you pay for with Three. Low prices, low standards. Coverage and customer service both totally non-existent!

Overall, I've been happy with O2 on my 3GS because the service has been acceptable, however I'm very much aware other providers like Orange and T-Mobile provider a 'better' level of service so depending on handset price, I may look to switch and pay off my O2 contract using their Recycle service.

I am now rather glad that I didn't stay up any longer just to see what the O2 site update was going to bring. I would have been extra tired for no extra information.

Right, looks like today is a day of waiting to see who is the first carrier to provide prices. I would like to think that as soon as the first has provided prices the rest will follow suit within a few hours (hopefully undercutting each other).

Did you call standard customer services? Was it free? Did they say how long before you get your code?

Just regular customer services. It's free and they said it'd arrive by text in 24-48 hours. I selected the "thinking if leaving us" option.

I don't think so because the prices should be available for the preorder tomorrow from apple's store.
According to an apple employee in Bath store we should be able to pre order pay as you go iPhone from the 15th. So I guess the prices will be announced very soon (as in midnight or tomorrow morning)

The Ofcom maps are next to useless since they are 18 months out of date.

18 months in terms of Mobile Technology and coverage is a veeerrryyy loooonnnggg time.

Not sure why people keep referring to the Ofcom maps from 18 months ago.

PS: I am no fan of any network, but I certainly would not trust the Ofcom maps.

Also, since those maps were done, O2 and Vodafone now do network sharing (i.e. use the same transmitters).

Did you speak to Maria?

But how do we know that Apple will be doing O2 Pre-Orders?

I have had nothing but great service, except for the time they said I owe hundreds of pounds in unpaid bills on a contract that was cancelled.

Not but really, the network is first class. I've had problems with getting network coverge in my house, and it's rather important that I have coverge 24/7 as I am self employed now.

Only Three meet my standards.

But yeah, the customer service is one big joke at times.

I dont see how on earth Apple will be selling any network iPhones....

If each network has a different price then the Apple stores will have to abide by those prices making it much more complicated for staff to sell them.

What would stop a customer saying they are buying for the cheaper handset network then using thier own network sim? Unless the boxes are branded with each network adn the handsets are locked... which i sdont see happening, especially the branding thing.

Apple will have to sell unlocked PAYG iPhones only.

they have different priced handsets now for the 3G&Gs on the apple store

8gb - O2 349 - orange 343
16gb - O2 449 - orange 440
32 gb - O2 499 - orange 489

no branding on handsets or boxes, cant see why they would change things now with a new phone. They probably do it by device serial to say what is and what isn't unlocked and iTunes checks the phone against the database

Apple will most likely sell PAYG iPhones the same way Carphone Warehouse do. They're sold unlocked, but you must buy them with a sim and X amount of PAYG credit. Once you register the phone and sim, the settings sent to the phone could possibly lock it to that network.

The prices will vary slightly no doubt, but aren't the PAYG prices the same across the board at the moment?

The boxes won't be branded, they're all Apple standard. That won't change. You may get a branded 'welcome pack' chucked in your bag containing your network terms, sim card, etc.
